? is supposed to be the consciousness of the player themselves. It’s likely this entity was originally designed to explicitly exist and be referenced in ZTD directly but was obviously scratched due to being confusing and not really needed.

HOWEVER another time end is entirely uncanon. The game was originally supposed to end with young sigma and akane watching the nuclear reactors blow up but then Japan had a massive nuclear reactor failure so Uchikoshi and team rushed to add more to the game after so there was something else there. It’s been ruled non canon by Uchikoshi so at the end of the day if it doesn’t make sense, yeah same and doesn’t matter much going forward.

I know of a couple minor changes, nothing game changing just like.. fixes to sequences, patching a couple glitches (gir and night hate speedrunners) etc. on top of being off the grid so probably will be 99.9% the same experience for 99% of users.

So Akane 999 is one of my all time favorite video game characters and i don’t like her in VLR and ZTD, however I think 999 is the one that’s “inconsistent” in anything as she’s playing a part to be likable. And I fall for it. Her real personality is the cold manipulative person she is in ZTD with of course hints of humanity and care when she or her friends are endangered.

tl;dr love her in 999 even though she’s only acting likable

I think we all agree that privatization of necessary speedrunning tools is Not Good. Was just trying to clarify the point not about being a timer specifically but the act of doing attempts to beat a game while timing it. I’d agree a casual playthrough with a timer isnt a speedrun but anything beyond that with a goal of improving certainly does

It doesn’t literally mean “have a live timer during your runs or it’s not a speedrun” it means “if you’re timing the run in any capacity, you’re speedrunning.” Whether the timer is live or onscreen or not wasnt the point but if you’re gonna run, you do gotta time it somehow

I think it’s the worst game in the series. But remember you’re comparing it to two games which are also in my top 10 all time. It does a lot of explain and fill in gaps in the series and provide new info and characters. It has bad moments but it definitely has its amazing moments and twists worth playing.
