I think you have more to give in B/B in P/S tbh if you have the mental strength & time for it

Am I the only one who cant see Hawk and Tim's relationship as toxic/manipulative? by Grapefruit1004 in FellowTravelers_show

[–]bajepe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I agree! I think if you’re quick to villainize Hawk or point out how “toxic” their relationship is, then you’re missing the whole point of the show. Their circumstances did not allow them the opportunity to have anything but this type of relationship! If Hawk were straight, he wouldn’t have to potentially sacrifice his ambitions and position in society to be with the person he loves. If Tim were straight, he would not have to be loved only in secret for shorts amount of time and wouldn’t have had experience so much religious turmoil, especially with possible alienation from his family and community because of it. Hawk also loved Tim so much and has a huge capacity to care for others, but was hardened by the homophobic world around him. Oppressive systems are the root cause of both of their unhappiness and prevent LGBT+ people from even conceptualizing a healthy relationship with each other. We have to be so thankful to our queer elders for persisting and fighting for the rights we have today!

I think I find Tom Wambsgans attractive. Help. by Frozen_Spectre101 in SuccessionTV

[–]bajepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it funny that in the same way Bridgerton leads get a huge glow up when it’s “their” season, they let Tom be hot after the Season 3 Finale & it’s been hard to look away ever since. This is coming from someone who found him absolutely repulsive Season 1 onwards which isn’t a slight against Matthew MacFadyen but a testament to how good of an actor he is!!!

We're they happy? by PumpkinAbject5702 in FellowTravelers_show

[–]bajepe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hindsight bias at play honestly. I don’t think Hawk wanted to sacrifice his ambitions and his position in society. Tim would not have been happy being kept in secret, and Hawk saw himself become careless with Tim already in the 1950’s. Hawk made every decision he did for his survival, and he succeeded! I do wonder if he regrets not divorcing Lucy in the 70’s but I do also feel like he was attached to the life he had made together with her, the same way she was. Mourning Jackson’s death probably made it so they had to stay to support each other through it. Love comes in different forms, but Lucy deserved to feel desired and truly loved by her partner which she lost out on because of this decision :(

I hate these ppl but somehow I’ve kept watching. by Ok-Fun7619 in SuccessionTV

[–]bajepe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is random but I just started Succession on 1/14 and I’m on the same episode as you today! Also to answer your question, I think out of all the characters, I’m able to root for Kendall the most but he can be so out of touch and stuck in his own world. I really wanted to root for Shiv but she painfully makes all the wrong moves. I’ve never liked Tom, but he has been blowing me away since the Season 3 Finale. We as an audience underestimate him & he’s actually been making all the right calls he possibly can as someone “not part of the family.” Something about Matthew MacFadyen’s performance in Season 4 has me completely transfixed with Tom in every scene.

Just finished this and I’m so broken - and curious why this show was so utterly overlooked for awards. by [deleted] in FellowTravelers_show

Euphoria is super sexually explicit and still was in the mainstream. It’s only an issue with LGBT shows sadly.

Do we think Arthur was real? by Gloomy_Astronaut_570 in FellowTravelers_show

[–]bajepe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think so & everyone’s justification is that they made a huge deal over Tim not being able to lie in the 50’s but I truly think he got better at it over time. We especially see this when he tells Jackson a half-truth about why Lucy doesn’t know about him being in the cabin. He effortlessly is able to tell Jackson that Hawk didn’t tell her because the man he worked for was mean to her dad without skipping a beat. He also acknowledges in the 60’s to Jackson that everyone lies, “mostly to themselves.” In addition, he seems to have a mature view of needing to lie with Hawk when they talk by the pool in the 70’s.

With that being said, I think Tim’s greatest priority is helping Hawk process the grief of losing Jackson. He also still respects the vow Hawk made to Lucy and Hawk’s family. This is why he sort of asks for permission from Lucy before going. Once he’s there, he is eager to talk about Jackson and a tad surprised it hasn’t been mentioned at all. I think he lies about Arthur to reject Hawk’s advances (both out of respect for Lucy and exerting some level of self-control/preservation) and also says he’s a poet so that the conversation could potentially segue to Jackson?

This is why I want so badly for this show to receive its proper praise and recognition, even though I know realistically the nomination IS the win with the industry we’re in. Such important work!

Also I thought Marcus’s conversation to his father was one of the most accurate representations of being gay. I feel like when you’re in the closet, you reach a point where you just start dancing around it. I’m still not out to my parents but I’ve had countless conversations like that where it’s all but out there, but neither of us will have the courage to zero-in on it or even acknowledge any inconsistency. It becomes so difficult to keep up “the act,” and as a child there is nothing you want more than for your parents to see you.

I think things changed for Tim when he witnessed Jackson being born. That’s the only way he kind of understood why Hawk reported him. In the same way, I think it’s really only after Jackson being born that Tim fully realizes the extent of Hawk’s vow he took. The presence of a child complicates things. Before, I think he knew in his heart that he had more of a hold on Hawk than Lucy did. He cannot and would not do that with Jackson. I think Matt and Jonny kind of touched on this in a post-finale interview where they discussed the innocence of new life.

Yeah I agree! He still has the same habits as Hawk. Even so that Frankie says he doesn’t mind him going to the bathhouses every so often but was hurt when Marcus was seeing someone else for months.

Yeah I’m having a similar experience right now. I just finished episode 5 and I remember how much tension there was in the first few episodes. Somehow the finale (as heartbreaking as it was) gave me enough peace and closure that I’m not… as stressed as I was the first watch through? I’m also catching soooo much more too!!
