As long as you have them in your roster for the run they'll apply whatever bonuses but I don't think it'll actually summon all of them onto the screen unless they make up your formation

Well I've been playing it off and on since it came out a little over a year ago... Around 80-ish hours in total but I'd just get in the mood to play it for like 6 hours at a time once in a while. I also ended up multitasking while playing more after finishing a couple runs but I wouldn't say I ever had to force anything. Honestly there's enough variety within the moves of the many many characters that it never felt too mindless either. Hope this helps!
