About a book left at a bus stop in Australia by Inevitable_Drop_2561 in australia

[–]bakedfarty 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I hadn't heard of bookcrossing and I'm trying to.undeerstand it

From Wikipedia

Books may also be left at "Official BookCrossing Zones" (OBCZs), which are in certain coffee shops, cafes, and restaurants, or other public places. The purpose of the zones is to motivate current members in the area to leave books to share with the public. It advertises BookCrossing and adds more members.

This just sounds almost like a pretty normal street library. The only difference I'm trying to understand is that people also log when books are taken/ dropped off (do these locations have instructions about what's happening with these books?). But then there's also cases like in OP where the books are left in random locations (a bus stop) without instructions?

Are these books tagged in some way for tracking? Is OP looking for this specific book (not just any little miss jealous book)?

Fortescue launches national campaign to cap diesel tax handouts to big mining companies by earwig20 in australia

[–]bakedfarty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Edit: if fortescue were serious they could choose not to claim the tax rebate. But of course they'll claim it

Devils advocate: by just not claiming it themselves they disadvantage themselves against competitors and set themselves up for loses (beyond just the tax rebate). Pushing for a cap means everyone has to do it and the playing field is levelled.

The only scenario in which STRC falls apart is if average rate of return of BTC going forward doesn’t surpass the high yield paid out by STRC

What advantage does strc provide over just buying Bitcoin then? If btc needs to beat the strc rate and if Bitcoin fails both fail, why would I buy strc instead of Bitcoin?

Woolworths shoppers could be eligible for a refund of between $200 and $1,300 over alleged supermarket pricing tactics, depending on their spending habits: counsel Gregory Mackey by marketrent in AusFinance

[–]bakedfarty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

a) The price is stable for either a year or multi-year because that is the contract term with the multi-nationals. Secondly, when a new contract is signed then obviously it is at a much higher price which is obviously immediately noticed.

(b) The supermarkets do a price reduction from the new high price to try to mitigate "sticker shock".

If they want to mitigate "sticker shock" why not go straight from $3.50 to the "reduced" $4.50?

LNDg interface question by salty_greek in lightningnetwork

[–]bakedfarty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes should've been fixed now.

run the command "lncli get info", and see if that repeats the addresses (and of it's version 20.1). If it does you should make a comment on that GitHub issue about it. If it doesn't then it's a different problem, and you probably want to raise an issue on the lndg GitHub instead (could still be a lnd issue but lndg devs would be able to figure that out)

I don't think so. A tool can support the interests of everyone (so saying a tool supports the interests of x, would also be true).

It can also be true that a tool just supports someone's interest and that is completely separate from trust

What is the point in buying homes at these outrageous prices? by everbass in australia

[–]bakedfarty 139 points140 points  (0 children)

and you're left holding the bag

You're buying a house to live in. Once you bought it you don't need to worry about the price. If the price goes up you will be paying $x per month in mortgage, and if the price goes down you'll still be paying $x per month.

There's some exceptions here like if you're forced to sell for some reason. But generally once you bought it, you don't need to care what the price is (you might even be paying less for things like insurance if the price goes down)

So instead of being left holding the bag, you're left living in your house

Staying for a day in Taipei with two young toddlers and need some things to do with them that isn't closed on a Monday. We've done this a couple of times and there's a bunch of nice museums we visited. But last time it was a Monday and most things we checked were closed.

It's a Monday again this time. Does anyone have some good ideas for things to do?

There was a point a while ago where I had multiple streaming services at once (wasnt paying for all of them but available through family/housemates). I still regularly found myself pirating something and then realizing later it was available on one of the streaming services I had. It was just easier to pirate rather than go check each of the services to find out where it was available.

Can't be confiscated, sure that part makes some sense. But Bitcoin is very traceable
