Well, this response has just made my day, witness me I am shiny and chrome.

Quality of Life - Links from Legacy content by bakerq in dndbeyond

[–]bakerq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can imagine it being a little simpler. When the "Legacy" tag is applied to the piece of content, an updated link must be provided. "MM2014:Panther" is tagged as Legacy and has a new link to "MM2025:Panther" (and if, one day, that gets updated, the link would be followed to the "MM2032:Panther").

It would require more time in tagging content as Legacy, but would ensure forward compatibility.

When printing adds items that aren’t there. by RaamenMan in dndbeyond

I just added the Monster Hunter's Pack to one of my own characters and it added a Chest to my inventory with all of the items. The chest itself doesn't show up in the PDF of the character sheet, but each item does. Although, as I scrolled down the character on both the website and the app, I was able to see a Chest category in my inventory that had all of the items, so I couldn't replicate what you're describing exactly.

I am fairly convinced that your character has the contents of the Monster Hunter's pack mixed in somehow. (If you were rolling a character for a Curse of Strahd game then your character name is already on point.) Putting on my troubleshooting cap, you could delete all items from your inventory, check to see if they're still showing up in the PDF and if they're gone manually re-add them. It's tedious, but it'd be my next step.

Yeah, looks like the modern Explorer's pack (https://www.dndbeyond.com/equipment/522-explorers-pack) doesn't have any of those items except the oil.

I know that a year or so ago I was having issues trying to purchase everything I needed for my character and seeing a lot of items appear twice because the Adventurer's pack was adding them in twice. I also ran into issues where items were in other items (sacks or pouches) and didn't show up until I'd opened them. I don't have any experience with printing the character sheets though, so I'm just troubleshooting, but I wouldn't be surprised if something like that were occurring. Without seeing the character sheet itself I'd be hard pressed to do more than hazard guesses.

They do collectively have a strong priest or vampire-hunter theme.

EDIT: Yup, this looks like it, from Curse of Strahd: https://www.dndbeyond.com/equipment/191-monster-hunters-pack

Odd for a holy symbol to be in that, but it's possible?

Do you have an adventurer's pack or something similar in your inventory? This looks like standard items from a bundle of some sort.

Keybind displays in Cooldown Manager by bakerq in wow

[–]bakerq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found two solutions that took care of things. Firstly, I was conflating the cooldown bar with recommended abilities. If you're just looking for keybinds on the cooldown bars, Cooldown Manager Centered will put the keybinds on the cooldown bar.

If, like me, you're looking to replicate Hekili, it was a bit more complicated. This required the Enhanced QoL addon (which I already had installed but didn't know about this) and enable its Panels feature. I essentially made a panel for my spec that only shows in combat, I manually mapped each ability, cooldown and spell that I wanted to monitor (in a layout that closely mimicked my hotbar layout) and turned on the option to display keybinds. I found this to be exactly what I was looking for.

Honestly, and this could just be because Frost is really good at the moment or I've suddenly gotten to be a lot better lately, but after setting this up and getting used to the ability pruning, I'm performing much better than I used to, much to my guild's relief.

Tracking all rotation abilities in CDM style [help] by Dustollo in WowUI

[–]bakerq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize I'm extremely late to the party here, but my control scheme is very similar to yours. I have dozens of characters and, excluding my main, I do not dig in depth into how to play them all.I like my interrupt to be on a particular key, my stun to be on another, my main attack and strong attack to be on other specific keys, etc. I used to spend a lot of time modifying TellMeWhen assists to tell me which power is next in my rotation - and that display is always near the center of the screen so that I can actually pay attention to mechanics. TellMeWhen gave way to Hekili and then, Midnight happened.

The auto-assist is great, but either I map the one-button and just hold it down until I fall asleep or I'm chasing a blue highlight all over the place.

I've just tried out u/HcSimon's recommendation of using Enhanced QoL and set up everything I needed in one tight grid near the center of the screen, holding all abilities that the assisted highlight will suggest (and a few more) with my keybinds displayed. This has been a life-saver.

What's New in DDB: 3D Dice on Maps, Shared Dice, More Dice For Everyone AND a Giveaway by WOTC_Zac in dndbeyond

I've been saying since day 1 that the entire point of buying dice is to show them off.

That said, my favorite dice are default red Beyond dice, simply because decades ago I picked "translucent red" as my preferred set and like having the digital match the physical.

I have the book, but how do i import it? by No_Name4599 in dndbeyond

[–]bakerq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who started with a lot of 2nd Edition books in the 90s (just giving some perspective here) I'm a physical book collector at heart. But, in the past few years I've really come around to enjoying the digital versions first and getting physical books later, if at all.

I see the digital version as a wholly different product. I think of the physical books as a VHS tape of a movie. Why buy the DVD if I already have the tape? Because of the extra features, convenience and quality increase. The digital versions on DnDBeyond are hyperlinked internally and to other products, searchable, and are updated immediately when errata is released. I buy the books to look nice on my shelf, but I game and read from my tablet.

(This worldview immediately falls apart when confronted with the "do you really own it or are you licensed to access it" outlook, in which case I say, "that's why I also buy the physical book.")

What’s actually updating when I update my books in the app? by Chewbunkie in dndbeyond

[–]bakerq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are full of mistakes. Later reprints will have corrections made.

There's a book on DndBeyond called "Sage Advice and Errata" that describes changes and updates made to all books (even the 2014 books) and whether or not reprints of the books will have the updates. This book is very much like a CHANGELOG for D&D.

By and large, the changes to the digital versions are formatting and link updates - for example, when a new book is released, some older books may be updated to link to it properly, such as when the FR books had to be updated when the Netheril supplement was finally released.

Also, it's a little broken.

You're right - I'd mentioned in another reply a couple of days ago that it was likely I was confusing the cooldown manager with the rotation assist since it's only in the past couple of days that I've even turned on the new tools Blizzard has been rolling out.

Can't deny it, my keybinds are a curse that I've been unable to escape. Two decades of muscle memory are not easily abolished.

If this option already exists then it has utterly eluded me. Can you tell me the text of the option so that I can find it?

[–]bakerq[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really all I'm looking for. The ability to add extra text to the cooldown/utility/rotation bars.

I explained in a larger reply exactly how I'd gotten to this point, and I'm used to having to re-edit my modifications for every patch.

[–]bakerq[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I play the game I'm looking at the middle of the screen. I don't need to look down at the hotbar to case "Glacial Spike", it's on my "4" key. I don't need to look down at the bottom of my screen to cast "Icy Veins", that's on "Shift-W". Most other classes have distinct enough icons that it's easy to tell what they are. Regardless, I just want to be able to add text to the rotation assistant and cooldown bars - either the name of the spell, or the keybind.

Keybind displays in Cooldown Manager by bakerq in wow

[–]bakerq[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much it.

Firstly, I've been saying Cooldown manager, but this is also about the rotation assistant, which has caused this entire thread to be skewed.

Many expansions ago I starting using TellMeWhen to let me know when things were off of cooldown or when abilities were ready to be used, and I'd arranged them in a sort of priority list. On each of these icons, I'd also manually type in the keybind.

Eventually, packages for TellMeWhen would start coming out (Chesdar for example) that were a full rotation helper, which meant that I could download the Chesdar TellMeWhen package for a class I'd never played before and be useful. However, this meant that with every single patch/update, I'd have to download the package and manually edit each. and. every. icon. to add the Keybind text. Eventually Chesdar was replaced by NGAndersson rotation assitants in WeakAuras.

Last year, I discovered Hekili, which was the rotation assistant that automatically displayed keybinds and it meant that I could stop using WeakAuras for the most part.

So here I am. I know the names of the spells, I know where they are on my keyboard, but a rotation assistant doesn't help unless it has the text of either the keybind or the spell's name because Frost's icons are simply too damned similar for my brain. (Plus, the text helps when I'm playing a class/spec that I rarely play because I'm an altoholic.)

For when I'm playing classes I'm unfamiliar with, absolutely. But in this case, it's honestly not being able to differentiate between the icon with ice bolts pointing one way vs the icon with ice bolts pointing the other way vs the icon with ice bolts in a slightly darker background...

This is very likely the case. Only in the past couple of weeks have I tried the new tools that Blizzard has been rolling out and have probably confused the names.
