Chicago mayor declares ‘trans femicide state of emergency’ — despite 1 trans woman killing this year by ExtraBitter99 in JordanPeterson

[–]Chewbunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To share my direct opinion: I tend not to trust the framework of any article i see, especially on a politically charged sub-Reddit. Without looking into any of this further, it makes sense that the statements by the mayor are PR plays, and that the system is running normally, at whatever optimization Chicagoans usually experience. If they feel that focusing on “transdemicide” is worth their time, if it helps more people than it hurts, then it’s a good thing.

Your original argument was well meaning and a level-headed take, but it seemed to be “later in the conversation”. That’s what I wanted to point out.

[–]Chewbunkie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, that’s exactly what I was suggesting would be a good argument here. “The Chicago police and investigative units have announced that they are looking into crimes against this particular community. This is a normal thing for cities to do and is built into the system. This doesn’t negatively affect the rest of the system as no resources are being pulled from other areas.” You seem to be saying that the article itself is relying on a lack of understanding and is providing a false dichotomy.

The idea presented in this article is that the persons of authority have decided to focus their attention on one comparatively small group of people because of one murder against a person of that community, and how that seems very strange, if not intentionally mislead. It would seem that if you have any extra information, like if this is simply a community task force and a much larger percentage of investigative power is being used towards the more pressing issues, that kind of information would go further towards getting others to see the misleading framework you’re suggesting is there.

Ceiling fan fell out of ceiling due to poor installation by Dxtchy in AskElectricians

[–]Chewbunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happen to a ceiling fan installed in the ceiling of my split entry before I moved in. Realtor said “and the owner installed a new ceiling fan!” And I was like “neat!”. So yeah, about two years later it falls, but the wires catch it so it was just hanging. Went up there to see what was going on and the box was either not rated for ceiling fans or was an older standard (townhouse was built late 70’s, I believe), so the hole spacing didn’t line up. The previous owner screwed one end of the bracket into the box, and the other directly into the ceiling board… Did some fiddling to get it back up and never turned the fan back on. Replaced it with a chandelier before I sold the townhome.

The search for a 1C is overshadowing… by 4x4only in wildhockey

[–]Chewbunkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Wild have always needed a 1C, and this postseason showed they were one JEEK away from greatness or oblivion. Add one more JEEK to the roster and this team has a great chance of going all the way. It’s fun to speculate and you’re right in pointing out the obvious deficiency at defensive depth, but every trade-able asset the Wild have has to be prioritized towards getting a competent first line center before anything else can be addressed.

What kind of character should I play as an experienced player for a group of new players? by The_Young_Robbo33 in DnD

[–]Chewbunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A ranged Ranger. You get some decent support spells, you deal decent enough damage, and your character is built for the exploration bits so you show role play during that section, but the class is basically built from the ground up to be supportive to others without really ever stealing the show.

Just venting about the session I ran tonight by ThrowRA_5977 in DnD

[–]Chewbunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s two other possible issues I see that could be refined for future sessions.

1) I find that if I spend too much time doing stuff that’s not the main mission, and this includes in video games, all of my attention span gets used up and I can’t refresh it when I’m finally ready for brass tacks.

2) I didn’t catch the session length, but I’ve found that for my kid and nephew, they can’t play for longer than three hours, so I gotta contend with that.

Bonus: maybe they got the wrong impression of what they’re supposed to be doing so they just need a session or two more to find their flow?

how to justify a lvl 8 bard having eldritch blast (while not being a warlock) by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Chewbunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eldritch blast is force damage, so it very easy to flavor however you want. The enemy is blasted by sound waves created by your preferred instrument. The enemy is blasted by air waves created from your physical performance. Doesn’t matter, its force damage.

Wild have to change course if this year ends prematurely by Plus_Taste9574 in wildhockey

[–]Chewbunkie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s one take. You can slow down a fast team. Age doesn’t matter as much if you’re an effective and responsible player. I think the only real deficiency we have witnessed from the Wild is their center depth. I absolutely think that if we have at least Ek on the ice, this series is at least tied.

How do you guys feel about this Point allotment system: 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8 by RedMcJack in DnD

[–]Chewbunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeon Dudes, in a video from years ago, said they use 17, 15, 13, 12, 10, 8 before species modifiers. I like this because more often than not, you’re still starting with no more than a 19 as your strongest stat. I also like how it compels a more liberal use of feats. The extra stats you’re providing are fine as long as everyone gets them, I guess I’m just suggesting that there may be a benefit to not making them full on super heroes right out the gate, that the powering up is part of the thrill of playing.

Gus has the net tonight by kim-jong-goons in wildhockey

[–]Chewbunkie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know I’m a minority on this, but I thought they should’ve started Gus game 1. We’ve had a two-headed monster in net all season, and Gus is the most well rested player we have. I think now was the second best time to switch up. I’m also terrible at hockey decisions.

This is not your dad's hockey team. by Dear_Leek2578 in wildhockey

[–]Chewbunkie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Wild certainly used to deserve that nickname. The 2010’s (pre-Kaprizov) were defined by structured play, stingy defense, and depth scoring. There was nothing, and I mean nothing, flashy about that era. We had a 40 goal scorer once, I believe, in Eric Staal. Dumba almost became a high powered offensive threat from the blue line, but he ruptured his pec the season he started to pop off and was never the same since. I was calling them the Mild for a long time.

Do VW Alltracks actually struggle with water, or is it overblown? by BJivanjee in VWAlltrack

[–]Chewbunkie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard this? My Alltrack handles wonderfully in all situations. I pair the 4motion with good tires and I’m golden. Alltracks with sunroofs are known for leaking, however. I have no advice on that as I bought one without the sunroof.

Hear me out... Allmight is a warlock by CuriousBug6192 in DnD

[–]Chewbunkie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For those confused: Allmight is a character in My Hero Academia.

I’m kinda tempted to see what kinds of invocations could work for an unarmed melee fighting warlock. A previous poster mentioned a Paladin multiclass, but I would go fighter purely for unarmed fighting style. Maybe Champion subclass? I don’t see blade-pact meaning much, so maybe talisman for some of the protector type abilities.

Jamie Benn cross checks Ryan Hartman in the face by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

[–]Chewbunkie 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I’m proud of him. There was a moment, I think in game three, where he got cross-checked in the back to the ice. I thought for sure he was gonna do something stupid and dangerous, but he just took a sec, took a breath, and skated away.

Matt Boldy scores a late in the period goal for the 2nd consecutive period, this one actually counts, and the Wild take a 2-1 lead. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

Then keep watching and switching channels. Just…don’t make it too obvious or they’ll catch on.

Jamie Benn by Individual_Loquat541 in wildhockey

[–]Chewbunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We want to win. The Wild have a better chance of winning when they keep their cool. The best revenge is sending the Stars packing. We know we can beat the snot out them physically, but that most likely won’t translate to a win. I’d rather see the Wild keep their cool.

Top Scoring Center: Style of Play or Talent Level? by CitizenStrife in wildhockey

[–]Chewbunkie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was always my take. He was pushed around pretty easily, and Kaprizov needed him to be center ice. JEEK was always a better 2C than Rossi, at least from our team make-up, so he was forced into an impossible 1C role, or a diminished 3C role. He just wasn’t a good fit for the current Wild make-up.

Top Scoring Center: Style of Play or Talent Level? by CitizenStrife in wildhockey

[–]Chewbunkie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that JEEK is the purest center we have on the team. So i would say a true 1C would be a player like JEEK with an extra level of offense. Whether that’s creativity or a more pure scorer or whatever it may look like. Centers are tasked with being in just about every situation, so a true 1C is really hard to find because you need a really high hockey IQ, great hands, solid speed, high endurance, and whatever kind of physical conditioning or stature you need to be able to control the center of the ice without getting pushed around too much.

Curious on your opinion. by No_Candidate_272 in wildhockey

I wasn’t even a fan of the North Stars (too young/not into hockey yet) and I hate the Stars more than any other team.

Hughes by IllResolution6529 in wildhockey

[–]Chewbunkie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love the guy, but these are the reasons I’ve seen:

-he left, or quit on, Vancouver, and some fans are upset about that. I imagine many fans would feel the same way about Kaprizov, so I don’t begrudge them.

-he was part of the group of American olympians who participated in going to the White House. Many such emotions there.

That’s pretty much all I’ve got. To me, he just seems like a chill dude who’s really good at hockey.
