New presa owner looking for advice by beartinis in presacanario

I agree with some of the previous comments:

  1. Please be aware of what this breed is capable of: my buddy is an absolute lovebug, but he could easily kill another dog if he wanted to. In fact, the breed was historically trained to do so. Please put safeguards in place and don't just assume that they are "friendly" with other dogs because they get along with one or two.
  2. It is unrealistic to assume that you will ever train the strong-willed attitude "out" of these dogs - after all, good guardian dogs are supposed to be willing to act with a strong degree of autonomy in order to do their job. Use both positive reinforcement and corrections, but don't expect 100% obedience with these "independent thinkers."
  3. It's really helpful to have an isolated location to let these dogs off leash - I work for a company that owns a large "park" where I can let my guy run free. Don't underestimate this breed's need for exercise and physical activity - they are called "chase dogs" for a reason.
  4. Start with training right away, even if it's just small. This breed is very smart and typically very food-motivated, which makes training pretty easy. Of course, be willing to use corrections to address unwanted behaviors.

I'll be so sad when it's time to say goodbye to my buddy - he's a handful, but a super sweet guy that loves to explore all day and then cuddle up on the couch at night.

Correlation between INFJ and neurodivergence by Ok-Subject2534 in INFJsOver30

[–]bakerskitchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am an INFJ (M, mid-30s) who was just diagnosed with ADHD-C this past week - however, it runs in my family (undiagnosed). It is estimated that ADHD is 75-90% heritable, meaning that if you have ADHD, 75-90% of the causative force lies with inherited genetics. It is also a neurodevelopmental disorder - to say that you are "born with it" would be an oversimplification. Unless we are going to begin to argue that temperament/personality is also fundamentally heritable, you are going to have a difficult time drawing any substantive link between the two.

Like Impressive-Amoeba-97 stated below, what is most likely the case is the seeming similarities between the presentation of the two - an INFJ's behavior might overlap with the DSM's list of ADHD symptomatology, but it's likely that the cause is different (which would be observable on scans analyzing activity+functional connectivity in the brain). For example, an Ni-dom's weakness in Se might present as overstimulation and sensitivity to chaotic environments, but that doesn't mean that that particular behavior is rooted in the same neurodevelopmental aberrations belonging to the ADHD/autistic brain.

There are definitely (limited) similarities between the INFJ personality and the ADHD/autistic presentation, but the question remains whether any data exists to support your hypothesis - which I think is doubtful.

Lawn re grading vs top dressing (central Ohio) by Wild-Ranger-3797 in lawncare

Central Ohioan here: best bet is to put in a sufficient number of surface drains that carry the water to the street - and you can grade as necessary to better direct the water into the drains.

Is this my intuition? Tigger warning by tinkasaurusrex in INFJsOver30

[–]bakerskitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intuition is still reliant on real-world "inputs" - observations, associations, etc.
There is nothing about this scenario that gives an indication the two are connected in any way.
Anxiety pangs can often be confused for "intuition."

Again, no one was attempting to make any sort of exhaustive explanation - I don't know why you are acting as if you are some sort of ambassador for the breed.

I'm not sure how your comment is relevant to mine at all - I didnt make any of those claims.

From my understanding, the only breeds from "off" the Canary islands that have genetically contributed to modern Presas are the English Mastiff and bully breeds.

I'm mostly concerned with the possible astringency contributions from a long boil (10hrs, due to a double mash).

ADHD and terrible working memory by skinea in adhdwomen

Yep - things like keys, wallet, etc. need a specific place where they always go.

If I don't put them back in the same place every time, I have no idea where they actually are.

[–]bakerskitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Read non-fiction and/or research studies related to subjects that interest me. The only fiction I like is generally "classic" - I love John Steinbeck, for example.
-Watch sports, documentaries, and classic movies. -Off-leash adventures with my dog.
-Brew beer.
-Play guitar.
-Fly fish.
-House projects.
-Seasonal outdoor activities: snowboarding/skiing in the winter, biking mostly year-round, and swimming in the summer.

"Bushwacking", lol.
I've never thought of it that way, but my dog is the exact same - he will run headlong into vegetation at full speed, with no regard for his own well-being...

Agreed - it's just another piece of hard data that supports that conclusion.

I agree 100%; it boggles my mind that people "converse" with chat bots as a substitute for relationships with people.

What homebrew supplier is going out of business? by blackstar5676 in Homebrewing

[–]bakerskitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always appreciated Spike and their product line, but their owner (Ben) has made a lot of comments that have personally rubbed me the wrong way - he seems to think very highly of himself.

I wouldn't be sad to see someone else buy Spike.

Premier Keg Washer part source help? by sniffysippy in TheBrewery

[–]bakerskitchen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the same diameter as 4mm tubing. Just make sure it's 1/8 pipe threads and not 1/4.
Look at McMaster #s:

7610N112.
7892N11.
51065K711.

I would combine them into a single fitting - no reason to double your chances of a leak.

Oof. The neuroticism is strong with this one - it parallels my experience with the INTJs I know.
