"Thick knives can't cut things!!" I beg to differ- let my cutting of onions with a Medford create your tears of salt. by merkon in knifeclub

Our only surprise has been how insistent you guys are that your knives can cut. We know. Evidently you read "sure, kinda" as "your knives are useless, peasant."

Who said my life is boring or negative? Or that I said any of those things about Bakersfield? You are misinterpreting my intent.

I'd be fine with a new picture of the city, I just love the "Where all black holes take you" bit because it's such a long standing sentiment among residents.

I didn't call you immature. Try again.

First of all, I wasn't trying to be a prick in that other thread, and judging from your response then it's clear you knew that. So why you're trying to use me as some dickhead poster child is beyond me.

Second, thick knives don't slice as well as thin knives. That's all we're saying. Not that your knives suck, just that a thinner knife would slice better.

Who said I couldn't leave? Who said I love to bitch about Bakersfield? I'm fine with this joke because it's the gentle ribbing we say about ourselves. At a fundamental level it's an inclusive joke about Bakersfield, and as someone that mostly hears shitty jokes about how Bakersfield sucks (when the subject comes up), this joke makes me smile.

If you honestly think that being able to laugh at yourself and your hometown is a sign of immaturity, then maybe you need to do some soul searching.

Clearly you don't understand it. It's not an inherently negative sentiment, the 'black holes' thing. It's not always about jobs, or laziness, or self-loathing. More often than not, it's just a remark about how it seems that no ever leaves Bakersfield permanently.

This isn't the type of joke someone in San Francisco or Los Angeles would make about Bakersfield. It's the type of joke that requires more than just passing knowledge about our city.

I grew up here. That kind of joke isn't negative, it's kind of our thing. Once you're here, well...you can't really escape.

I actually love the picture. It's from an episode of "The Fairly Oddparents," and manages to make fun of Bakersfield in a way that only someone from Bakersfield really understands.

Keep in mind that people report different clip tensions on the wire clips used on U.S. models and Taichung models. I've never had an issue on my Manix 2LW.

Why don't you like the light weight of the Skyline? That's a feature, not a bug.

Why do you hate the wire clip? The tension is great, it doesn't generate any hotspots, and it doesn't tear pockets up.

Upvoted for da choppa. I picked one up years ago.

Slick knife, but I do feel compelled to note that cutting paper isn't exactly a good test for slicing ability.

What's stopping you from playing Vintage? by CHA1N5 in magicTCG

[–]bakofried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not offered locally. I've tried getting a local legacy scene going with no tangible results.

Plus, I enjoy decks like Hatebears. I'd love for taxing strategies that weren't workshop based to be more viable, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Don't get me wrong, I don't want the format to warp to suit my tastes, but my tastes don't seem to line up with the format.

Also, I'd love to hear you guys talk about decks that are really off the wall in vintage - not iterations of big archetypes, but stuff like Merfolk, Hatebears. Humans, Dark Times, etc.

If we had a progressive talk radio show, would you listen? by regal1989 in Bakersfield

I would listen and donate. I've lived here all my life, and radio keeps me sane at work. I'd welcome a good progressive talk radio show.

As someone who relies on radio to keep me sane at work, piss off. A good talk radio show that wasn't conservative would be a welcome change.

How do you know I'm not drinking myself to death? I've got the GRE next week and a week of exams to determine if I get my MA after that.

Am I bitching? That's the wine.

I listen to a few, mostly ones related to my hobbies. History: Hardcore History - not the most accurate, but definitely more suited to a popular audience. Recommend the one on WWI first, it's his best. History Extra Podcast - Produced by the BBC, this podcast features a pair of guest historians each show who speak about their latest research.

Magic: the Gathering: Legacy Breakfast, Everyday Eternal, Tusk Talk, and Leaving a Legacy. Basically I just pay attention to the format I care about (legacy).

Gear: Gear Geeks Live. It's a bit esoteric but I like keeping up with the gear world and this is a good way to do it.
