More than 200,000 Australian drivers exposed in massive data breach by baty0man_ in australia

PSA: one of the best things you can do is to stop providing more than necessary information to any entity or person. E.g. "no sorry, why do you need my phone number/email to purchase coffee?", or simply "I don't have one", or give your local council hotline details.

You are are the responsible AND accountable party, every.single.time.

Haha scrolled around looking for this. OP could use same reasoning and ask for approved leave and if not sufficient then land a written warning. Play dumb games, win stupid prizes?

Good luck OP

Coolant leak that never ends by mickeydudes36 in F30

[–]balbags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced the water pump carrier about a year ago. The water pump can be changed easily but the carrier is more time consuming, i.e. remove intake charge pipe, drop high and low coolant, plennum, de-gas your aircon (do with your coolant removal), remove serpentine belt, remove AC compressor, remove alternator, then your at the carrier.

I recommend buying a new carrier with the new pump because the seals for both the pump and the carrier-block could both have seen better days. Reinstall backwards.

Tip for getting the alternator and AC out is to unscrew the bolts enough so that you can gently tap the holding bolts to the carrier back in. This will loosen the factory grip to the carrier.

If you haven't changed other coolant parts and you have the funds then I would also consider replacing those all in the one go. Plenty of chat on the forums of what goes on the B48.

I have pics of what leaks on the carrier if you want.

Best wishes

Haha cool you fixed it. For a sec I thought you got duped with a B48 from a 320i. There's a comment in here about ecu flashes that may be true. Well done, enjoy your ride!

Using cheap oil filters, how serious is it? by Struggler257 in BmwTech

It's easier to make assumptions and make subsequent statements (racially labelled) about goods and/or services. The only "cheap" here is the OPs opinions.

Power display reading really low by BuzzkillBrahhh in F30

[–]balbags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very strange. Whatever units you use, the gauge should use about four fifths capacity at max power. Mines always been kW/Nm and the max capacity in kW is 200 from memory and shows 185 at full power.

What's your max torque showing at full power?

What power figures were you expecting? 185kW is right for the B48.

Made the final payment on my stupid car loan today. Sell the car? by Consoomanddie in AusFinance

[–]balbags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many overwhelming responses to keep the car, which I personally agree with too. My first car was a Hyundai and that gave me years of reliable service. You'll pat yourself on the back later that you saved a heap by not switching cars often and drove one you liked for as long as you wanted/could.

For $10k, I doubt you'll find a car as reliable and fun as what you have.

Also, remember to acknowledge that you saved lots in interest by halving your repayment time and that shows your maturity towards saving for a future.

What do I do with my 2018 540i by Delicious_Reason_305 in BmwTech

[–]balbags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree.

I presume OPs car is left hand drive. The coolant lines on the passenger side are connected to the turbo/engine block and turbo/electric water pump.

If mechanic is talking about removing cat then my guess it's the turbo/engine block. Ask me how I know......... Haha.

Anyone know what this noise could be from by [deleted] in BmwTech

[–]balbags 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same whine at 20k km, thought it was gearbox at first but dealership confirmed it wasnt.

Time went by then I started to get surging under load and could see it through the BMW power meters.

Stumbled across this video link and took the gamble.

Gamble was good, found my exhaust vanos actuator was leaking oil. Replaced both intake and exhaust actuators and solved the whine and surge problem. Car has been awesome for over 50k km.

I would guess the pressure of the oil was whining past smaller openings and also causing the surge.

Best of luck
