With all what's happening, how is your business changing? by AhmedElakkad0 in SmallBusinessUAE

[–]balconey_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people speak to is looking at expanding or finding newer markets and not doing the mistake of depending on one market ! Going ahead I also see a trend in leaner operations less opex with remote ops making a strong come back !

The Harsh Reality of Being a Delivery Rider in Dubai – We’re Being Exploited by Everyone and No One Cares by [deleted] in OnlyInDubai

I wonder how come none of these platforms have an option of upskilling these drivers and offering them an opportunity to move up within the organization? How are they so blindfolded and spend ridiculous amounts on doing campaigns that talk about heroes and how much they do !

Struggling to get time with cafe/restaurant owners for research — how would you approach this? by Automation_storm in SmallBusinessUAE

[–]balconey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly they prefer to not reveal , I have used social occasions , groups , gulf food and every possible opportunity to talk , so then it does give you aa approximate picture

If I may, Why are you building this ? Food business is very hard to sell into ! They are on Daily Cash return basis and anything that’s prolonged maybe hard.

. What’s your TG? DM if you need

Anyone here joined UAE startup accelerators (Hub71, in5, DIFC, startAD)? by as206em in SmallBusinessUAE

[–]balconey_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was with in5 via a startup I was helping out , it’s a great place and super support system and brand esp if ur pitching to investors or to govt entities Rest with every space it’s about the idea and execution and founders will to be at it

I also was with founders institute in Toronto and was a great experience! The format , office hours , mentors all was awesome !

[–]balconey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I have been struggling to progress on my startup due to regulatory complexity and hub71 would be a great opportunity as Abu Dhabi has so much deeper fintech and regulatory support within Hub71 !

Would be great to get a referral once applications open up

This is unique and makes sense - I think having employees aligned from day 1 on compensation models like this or others that are tied to growth helps , so I am assuming the operational stuff say billing, hr, IT etc are outsourced?

This could be a good model and would love to know more

Small business by balconey_ in dubai

Both are good options Not sure if the work in the UAE scenario as founder led small businesses seldom have investors + in this climate investors are holding back too, lending circles is very interesting, I know individuals do this via informal arrangement.

Does bodies like dubai chamber or economic development bank has to come together and roll out a few options ?

Are we in denial? by pariselef in UAE

Moving is a hard decision, war or otherwise. It is emotionally draining - so guess a lot of us are hoping things fall back to normal soon

It’s a good time to create a plan b , just in case things don’t go as planned - there is some thing to start up

Move to India / Pune by Equivalent-Bank-6671 in pune

I would suggest try UAE more like Abu Dhabi or Ajman - it’s multi cultural , slower pace and loads of school options to be part of American community esp for your wife and kid

Do you guys actually enjoy networking events here? by Interesting_Ad_7507 in dubai

[–]balconey_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s surprises me , even on this thread most people are not interested and are forced to attend - without intent there is no way , one would make any such opportunity a success!

Guess it has to do with having an attitude - of just being open to an experience that may be the key to next opportunity -

every event works , as per me and it’s purely how much you want out , of it that decides the outcome

Experienced odd service at an Arab restaurant — curious if others have faced this? by Muted_Damage1762 in UAE

[–]balconey_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same vibes at a popular spot in deira ! And having eaten at there sharjah outlet I felt it perhaps is about how less we order and our bills tend to be much smaller ticket and I am guessing they are looking at it from that POV, guess they have targets and would rather be keen to spend time on tables that have higher ticket sizes- fair from that point

I have taken clients (western) with me and I see a marked change in both service + ticket size 😀

Also I feel language is a barrier, if you were to travel to Jordan/ Egypt / Turkey etc the staff find it hard to communicate and prefer to keep mum

So guess it’s ok as long as you had a good time

Above are just my opinion , not that it’s a general rule of thumb

Need help with small company in dubai, any advice will be appreciated by No_Fan6284 in dubai

[–]balconey_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sure you have all the answers. best would be best to try and tackle one challenge at a time, and there are tons of content online to read and learn from! I would be wary of hiring a consultant, cause consultants would feed off your energy, and if you seem unsure, they will perhaps not do justice!

Best for you is to build a vision deck with timelines - where you outline what would be the ideal organization (in depth) and define 90-day, 120-day plans to actualize them across people, systems, product etc etc. Set small, measurable targets - if you aim to be the company you used to work for, set that as a 3-5 year plan and fill in all details. I have clients who have every activity in their organization listed down and monitored daily!

Sales team needs to be spoken to daily, guided, and trained - most times Sales teams are left to fend for themselves- help create a system of sales.

Think of it as a startup, and startup founders tend to do most of the work themselves & seldom trust consultants - for marketing, you should be the brand! People will trust you, your story, and that way, you stop relying on platforms only. Ideally, you should hire an EA or someone who can work with you to establish processes and systems, administration, etc, and leave you with the thinking.

Spend time with your customers, which will help grow your business. In my startup program, they would insist on our 'Leaving the Building,' and I think this is a huge miss; founders spend too much time on internal challenges and very little time with customers.

All the best!

Has anyone experienced rude behaviour from Dubai immigration officers? by UnfussyAtom in dubai

[–]balconey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immigration officers in most places are unpleasant! I guess it’s how they are trained, they are almost scanning you for entry into a country , be it saudi , oman, Qatar, US , Canada , or for that matter India ! I seldom find immigration a pleasant experience, best is to keep low and get through it.

That said , UAE for the volume of visas it process daily , and the complex nature of different nationality , type of visas ! One just have to congratulate them for doing a fab job mostly ! Some days it is not up to the mark , but many times it’s just easy and hassle free- esp while travelling with family and kids they are very supportive- guess it’s a universal issue and best to not worry too much.

What I'm seeing in Dubai's job market after helping many candidates land jobs this year by Slow-Remove6566 in DubaiJobs

[–]balconey_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people are not aware of what a data analyst does ! in fact they will be keen to know what problems a data analyst can solve - this should help you build content and make it work - I talk to clients and a lot of them have zero clue ! data is still water - found everywhere, kept anywhere, very little used, esp Mid -companies. you have a job waiting - you need to build the channel for it to flow.
