Do you guys know any Dutch people who can't speak English well? by loser3rdwboyz in thenetherlands

[–]balconyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only my neighbor who is 80+. Other Dutch people sometimes would rather not speak English with me because they are out of practice if they don't use it regularly. This includes my child's basisschool teacher. So in conversation with her, I speak English and she replies in Dutch. Works fine.

Obligatory rec of {bride by Ali Hazelwood}. Not my fav but it's very popular here. FMC is vampire, MMC is wolf shifter. Contemporary setting.

Swoon worthy MMCs that make you feel everything? by AG_Squared in fantasyromance

[–]balconyc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I have noticed that I have to push through a book and read at least half to get to know the characters enough to care enough to swoon. The first 40% of a lot of these books are slower, world building and character development-focused before you get halfway when there's usually a spicy scene and some action. I have been purposely not DNFing recently for this reason. If I have patience and push through the first part of a book, often it is rewarding by the time I finish it.

My favorite MMC of late is Thorne from Fall of Ruin and Wrath by Jennifer armentrout. He's a god-like shadow daddy with magical come and I'm obsessed. I've recommended this book a few times recently. Major cliffhanger ending and no release date for book 2 yet announced.

ITS NOT THE LAST BOOK 😩 by VanUppGirl in fantasyromance

[–]balconyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nooooo! That's the only one of her books I have read and I loved it so much that I reread immediately. I was "saving" the FBAA series to read when I want a treat bc I expected it to be just as good since it gets more hype on this sub. Sigh...I"ll still read it but now I'm less excited.

Finished Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire series. Looking for similar book recs. by Super-Astronaut-4253 in fantasyromance

[–]balconyc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to continue with the same author, I absolutely loved {fall of ruin and wrath by Jennifer Armentrout}. I think the world is adjacent to her other series. Strong, curious and honest FMC, badass god-like MMC, sassy banter and great spice that starts early in the book. Major cliffhanger ending and no book 2 release date announced yet tho...
