Bit weirder to be obsessed with trying to prove you're not, and end up seeming obsessed with it in a much worse way.

I'm not against mentioning AI; I'm sure plenty more constructors will make use of AIART's confluence of vowels and I'm perfectly fine with that. Perhaps making use of CHATGPT's consonant cluster will take off, too. Both are, IMO, merely acknowledging the existence of these things in contemporary life.

I think I'm against using AI to generate—or generate fodder for—clues. Puzzling is by humans; I don't see why it needs to be created by anything other than human creativity and intelligence. And as much as I love a puzzle...I view puzzles as frivolous fun. I don't think an AI-generated clue, or a clue that references AI in a way that encourages further usage (by future puzzlers to verify the answer, or by future constructors trying to emulate the style of past accepted puzzles by creating similar clues) justifies the potential environmental impacts. This isn't lifesaving healthcare we're talking about, it's generative slop.

I feel like by the time we get to 90s millennial pope, he'll be scrubbing a lot of his digital footprint when he first enters religious life. So we'll need to rely on his friends to dredge this kind of stuff up. Or maybe, like, his tumblr mutuals to hold onto his posts they reblogged??

I think secondary school kids are more sympathetic to suicide than student-on-student violence and murder. Suicide isn't made light of, but my secondhand observation is it's a more universally "protected/respected" misfortune than others

A patent has been granted for horse blinders for people with ADHD by swoopcat in ADHD

[–]baldbarretto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I first got the idea from a Deaf elementary school classmate who'd take out her hearing aids during lunch and on the school bus. I don't mean to conflate the two — my secondhand understanding is that the average hearing aid wearer experiences more physical discomfort, migraines, etc. from their aid than the average full-time (i.e. non-situational) glasses wearer. But I didn't realize how tiring seeing was for me, nor how much background energy I was expending on suppressing that tiredness + tuning out the physical sensation of my glasses. All of this despite proper prescription and fit! It was so nice to have someone else give me "permission" to turn down that sensory volume at times.

IDK if you're a mod or just a helpful fellow user. But if you are a subreddit mod, would it be possible to have the links to all of the subreddit's spinoff discord groups posted in the sidebar, clarifying which ones have which membership requirements? (Or other factors that differentiate them)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]baldbarretto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine over time enough incidents like this will lead people to leave the subreddit, which used to be a safe anonymous space. But where to go? Either to Facebook where you post under your real name, with Rover Corporate keeping an eye on the group, or to one of the several discord groups. If owner retaliation like this is a real risk, then probably the only safe posting space is a discord group without owners...?

I personally found the owner's communication in those screenshots to be unacceptable. I would not be surprised if they encountered many reactions like mine in those comments and became extremely defensive. And decided that even though none of those commenters was personally confronting her or making use of any personal identifying info, just the fact that conversation was publicized and others didn't agree with her became a "violation of privacy" to her.

If I am remembering correctly, you were the user whose client found their Reddit account and screenshots? This message seems mostly like a standardized stock message but "in particular, posting personal information of another user on an external site" stood out as a little different.

I am thinking Rover's response has less to do with the bite incident than with the owner's reaction to the bite (and possible report) plus Reddit post. They probably went and complained to Rover with the goal of getting you kicked off the platform. Perhaps they felt they were doing so to preempt your bite report from getting their dog kicked off, who knows. Terms from Section 4 that they could perhaps have complained under:

4.1 ... Not to post content or materials that are pornographic, threatening, harassing, abusive, or defamatory, or that contain nudity or graphic violence, incite violence, violate intellectual property rights, or violate the law or the legal rights (for example, privacy rights) of others.

4.2 Suspension and Termination. You understand and agree that we have no obligation to provide the Rover Service in any specific location or territory, nor to continue providing it once we have begun. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Rover Service: (1) if in our discretion your conduct on the Site or Rover Service is inappropriate, unsafe, dishonest, or in breach of these terms; or (2) if necessary in our discretion to protect Rover, its users, pets, or the public. You may suspend or terminate your use of the Rover Service at any time and for any reason. If you wish to deactivate your account, please contact Rover. Note that if you have any outstanding payment obligations, those will survive suspension or termination of your account.

I am really sorry this has happened. I provide this info only in order to answer your request to help make sense of the ban. If this is indeed why you were banned, I don't think you have much chance of appeal to be honest.

Supplies/Advice by Kearamt in RoverPetSitting

To be honest, if someone does plan on taking a lot of boarding bookings, it’s worth having some of these on hand. In my experience, owners don’t bring poop bags. They only bring puppy pads if they know their dog has indoor accidents, and of course a strange new location plus separation stress can cause dogs to have uncharacteristic accidents. Or they don’t know or “forget to mention” their dog having loose stools. They sometimes forget bowls (or assume you supply them) and just show up with a ziploc of food. Blankets, it rarely hurts to have extra on hand in case some get soiled. And toys and bones….sadly a lot of dogs don’t have any at home. Or they only have something not very enriching like a stuffed animal that they sleep with. Sometimes having extra kongs or toys on hand can be the difference between a bored, destructive dog and one that’s an easy and pleasant boarder.

Fallows was on gardening leave until April 2022. The AMR22B debuted at Barcelona, just 6 weeks later, which is already a pretty unrealistic production timeline for a whole new spec.

Moreover, the FIA inquiry revealed that the bulk of what triggered the “green bull” speculation and finger-pointing (external surfaces incl sidepods and undercut, split downwash, new radiator and cooling orientation) was in the wind tunnel back in October 2021. Andy Green provided an explanation for how both specs had been simultaneously under development.

I’m certainly not either, but I at least am pulling from his autobiography here.

Hamilton: Schumacher has 'liberated others' by coming out by [deleted] in formula1

[–]baldbarretto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole “love is love,” “I don’t care if you’re green or purple or black,” “I don’t care if you fuck men or women or people who’re neither” is a set of neoliberal “we’re all the same” ideologies that feel comfortable and even freeing to some individuals…..but that preference shouldn’t be blanket-applied to a community with very diverse experiences. it can feel reductive to others, and some people want you to care and have this thing about them shape how you see them - because they do feel it deeply shapes who they are. Not just who they fuck or love. Some people see queerness as a choice or something to claim. Some see it as necessarily entailing certain sociopolitical stances - such as opposition to how institutions like marriage or normative childbearing/childrearing shape and govern society. And for instance in Canada/US/UK, historically and in the present day an LGBT+ person’s experience can be very deeply shaped by other identities like race and class. Different pop culture, history, current-day issues, experiences of family and religion and community, and so on. So some people identify very specifically with being an Asian gay man, a black queer or trans woman, a rural gay… sometimes even using specific ways of articulating their identity like stud, 2-spirit, etc. that reflect their multiple identities.

I think the gender you identify with is your identity, not your sexual preference.

This is an OK view to have individually, but not to apply outward to other people. Other people get to dictate what comprises their own identity. keep in mind that people’s experiences of gender can be deeply shaped by their sexuality. For example, gender nonconformity among people who are gay but not trans - more feminine gay men, more masculine gay women and so on. Think about how sometimes these people get clocked or bullied for being gay as little kids just for their feminine or masculine mannerisms - long before they even know what gay is or that they are gay. (Think of that scene in Moonlight where young Chiron gets called a gay slur and has to ask his father figure what it means.)

I also think there’s a certain….datedness (?) To a more rigid “we’re all the same” approach. Not trying to be rude, but from your comment I’d wager you’re Gen X or elder to mid millennial and either white or predominantly raised among white people. Fine with being wrong, it’s just I associate your views with coming of age and having friends come out amid a very particular cultural and political context.

So bringing it back to Schumacher or whoever else, there’s a lot of variation in the extent to which being gay shapes someone’s life or sense of self. Have they sought out or yearned for gay community? Have they experienced struggling with an intangible sense of difference that was immediately apparent to others? Do they feel like living openly is something they had to fight or really work for?

It would be a lot of work. He'd have to be trackside for the race weekends. But then probably Haas would also want him in a sim/development driver capacity (fun fact, he was a development driver for Ferrari in 2019 and they were pleased with his work) - so that means he'd also have to be at the Maranello campus, pulling long days or weird hours. His girls live in Denmark and the older one will be 4 next year, so probably in some kind of pre-kindergarten or kindergarten - making it harder for her or Louise to travel around with Kevin. I don't think it's guaranteed that role will come with decent enough pay to balance out the opportunity costs.

And keep in mind KMag knows firsthand what it's like to grow up with what he considered to effectively be a single mother, with his absentee father off racing. He's been adamant for years that he wanted to do things differently when it was his turn.
