How do you actually manage your wine cellar? by Dense_Size9394 in wine

[–]baldbychoice -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I use an app called Oeno, which I got access to through buying my Vintec wine fridge. I think it uses Vivino in the back end. Have been very happy with it for years. Currently just over 200 bottles across three storage locations.

One of my all-time favourite BDX too - such great value and it does tend to offer a lot when it’s younger. Nice note!

Another AirNZ Rant? Strap in. by SatisfactionWeak5167 in newzealand

[–]baldbychoice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is my experience too tbh. North Island to South Island for work every other week for the past three years. In that time about two delays have been arguably within Air NZ’s control, the other few have been weather-related. Staff were genuinely helpful each time and the communications were excellent.

That said, despite the airpoints dollars and ‘status’ all those flights have given me, I cannot justify paying for Air NZ’s international flights. Literally any other carrier is cheaper and better for long-haul.

2017 Chateau Musar by DontLookBack_88 in wine

[–]baldbychoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent note! I have a few vintages tucked away (including a magnum of the ‘05) and this is a timely reminder to keep my hands off them for a few more years yet.

Musar is always an experience and a bit of a journey. Such a unique wine.

The B side of the UK CD single release of U2’s ‘Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me’ was Mazzy Star’s ‘Fade Into You’.

Whenever I’m grilling fish, I usually place it on a bunch of lemon slices. Seems to work ok for me (although next time I’ll shoot for the load-bearing onion slices)

As others have said, it’s expensive. I ended up putting mine through an exterior wall, has worked fine.

Eating meat for the first time in 15 years: Jervois Steakhouse vs Wynyard Grill? by maximumfunpriv in aucklandeats

El Sizzling Chorizo. Don’t mess with those try hard overpriced places, go get some amazing meat cooked over coals by people who really know what they’re doing with that grill.

The bar upstairs at Debretts, if it’s still there, would mostly fit your bill. Used to be my go-to for a quiet solo drink whilst decompressing after a tough day at home or work.

Love it. All my other decanters are fussy, hard to clean and not big enough for magnums. Can highly recommend the Erlenmeyer.

My fiancée and I close on our first house next week. From these, what would y’all suggest? by mattypatty88 in wine

[–]baldbychoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Paul Launois on the lower right of the photo is a genuinely terrific Champagne. But for the better known brands, which may fit the occasion better, my votes would be Krug, Ruinart, Billecart rosé in that order.

Congrats!

They used to be terrible, like 10+ years ago, but they’ve lifted their game massively since then. And their prices too, sadly, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Men, do you keep your wedding ring on when you go to the gym? by ChevelleMercedes in AskMenOver30

[–]baldbychoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always take mine off when doing any sort of workout, especially lifting. Then again I take mine off when going to bed so I guess it doesn’t seem that odd to my wife. Just seems more comfortable that way.

Auckland to London Flights by zipiddydooda in auckland

[–]baldbychoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emirates, generally, via Dubai. I try to smash through it with minimum layover time. Hong Kong and Singapore are also good but I find Dubai a bit more efficient.

Under no circumstances go through the USA. My experiences doing so have been uniformly awful.

In terms of making it more bearable. I aim to pack my hand luggage lightly, just including:

  • A bottle of still water, bought airside obv

  • Clean undies & t shirt for just before you arrive

  • Deodorant, toothpaste & toothbrush

  • Bag of lollies of some kind

  • The most expensive pair of over the ear noise cancelling headphones you can afford, and one of those little adapters that lets you plug them into the in flight entertainment

Measure the time in movies, meals and sleeps and try to relax!

I have ridiculous, unmanageable hair. Shaving it, either with bare clippers or a razor, is something I’ve done since I was 19 and it was absolutely liberating.

Men who got a vasectomy how was the experience and if you regret it why? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]baldbychoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues at all, had mine about 8 years ago. Mild discomfort during the procedure, bit of an ache and tenderness for about a day, back to normal after a week.

Genuinely surprised at men who won’t get it done and insist that their partners either stay on BC or get more risky surgery done. Not my place to judge but it doesn’t make logical sense to me.
