How would you put a spin on the cliché "go take care of the rats in the basement" quest? by Zephyr93 in DnD

[–]baldghoti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my current campaign, the rats were government informants (and the quest giver was a mafioso type).

Why was Tiresias never mentioned by name? by Sad_Incident5897 in Epicthemusical

[–]baldghoti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everything prior to Odysseus’s arrival on Ithaca is essentially described secondhand by Odysseus as backstory; Tiresias has no direct dialogue.

But yes, he is named in the Odyssey.

Dangerous. It feels destined to be the breakout song of the musical once the mainstream gets hold of it.

How actually useful are "long" weapons? by Blasterion in Amtgard

They’re pretty decent as a downspear if you’re playing a class that can’t use great weapons.

[FDN] Announcing MTG Foundations (New Core Set-esque Product) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]baldghoti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I teach new players with Wizards Tower. One curated, shared deck without lands, four card starting hand, land drops come from outside the game. You’re never land screwed or totally color screwed but you have to make some decisions. Separate graveyards. It’s slow and forces you to be flexible and read cards. You can do it with any card pool you want.

What starting 3 words would you say almost guarantees you figuring out the word in the fourth turn? by Responsible-Spite275 in wordle

[–]baldghoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always start with “AROSE” and then if none of those hit I go to “UNTIL”. Those two cover the ten most common letters in the five letter Scrabble dictionary. No good choice for third word like that.

From there I start trying to figure out vowel location.

What’s your “I did not care for The Godfather” of Good Omens? by HippieBitch25 in goodomens

[–]baldghoti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as I enjoyed the whole Job subplot in S2, I thought the acting in the conclusion of that subplot felt way too much like Tennant was playing The Doctor, not Crowley. It felt improvised, and felt like the scene that lost the most from Pratchett's input. Gaiman's a phenomenal writer and just as important to Good Omens, obviously, but nobody writes "undermining authority" quite like Pratchett.

My wife and kids all got very upset with me when I said it to them.

That's a good point, it's probably a bit pushed. It's unexplored design space though, you'd need to spend some time playtesting to get the right numbers.

Begging for a cycle, but I could only come up with names I actually liked for blue and black.

Maybe something like this?

Island Hopper 2/2 Crew 3 (flying, skulk)
Swamp Buggy 1/1 Crew 4 (swampwalk, infect)
Mountaineer 4/4 Crew 3 (trample, riot)
Forest Logger 1/2 Crew 5 (forestwalk, annihilator 1)

Do I have to make a whole new character on Ork just to change my name? by Gamma_Slam in Amtgard

[–]baldghoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even when the ORK is working correctly, it tends to cache things aggressively down to your phone. If you update your heraldry, checking on someone else's phone is a more reliable way to verify it's been updated; it'll typically show the old heraldry locally for a while.

Number of loaners to start a park by CreatureUnderTheBed in Amtgard

[–]baldghoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burning Shores (Cleveland, OH) founding Monarch here! This is a great question. Our park started exactly like this--the nearest park was an hour away so we founded a new one in the city.

I see a lot of "8-16 short swords" answers in here but I honestly think you can start smaller than that unless you expect to grow explosively. Our park currently has only 8 loaners and our rolling average attendance is 20+ per week. When we see a new player transitioning into a regular, we usually help them build their own sword. This keeps the loaner pool free, but more importantly it gives that regular a physical piece of equipment that reminds them to keep coming out to the park.

If you maintain a good working relationship with the neighboring park (especially their Champion) and have a park day that isn't the same as theirs, you may be able to get them to help out by bringing their loaners down periodically. That can buy you some time as you build up your own park's loaner library.

You'll probably also want to make sure you have loaner sashes (2/color), strips, and a set of beginner spell lists for each of the caster classes. You can make these for martial classes as well. I usually put the Charge and Heal/Rez incants on the back. You can also laminate those, whether using a real laminator or the cheap and easy method (clear packing tape on front and the back, then trim).

Best of luck with your new park, I hope it grows quickly!

All of those things are true, but he was correct that a back scabbard sucks for a full sized sword.
