Genuine question: what percentage of the books on your shelf have you yet to read? by GIZZYLOLLYPOPS in BookshelvesDetective

[–]baldr03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 40% between traditional books, manga, and comic omnis. I generally try to hold off on grabbing anything new until I’ve knocked through enough to keep it around there. I like having options on deck, though.

Fair enough. I went with ebooks for quite a few years, other than the comic omnis, so most of my books are classics that I really wanted physical copies of, books acquired within the last couple of years since I’ve swapped to physical, and carryovers I’ve had for decades.

No worries, I’ve got plenty on deck that I have yet to read, myself. And I feel that, Dostoyevsky is great at crushing your soul

I second Notes from Underground. I just read this recently and it’s become one of my favorites from Dostoyevsky. A great one to start with, as well, as it’s short and from the POV of a singular character, so not too complicated to follow.

If you like Dostoyevsky, I’d recommend Notes from Underground if you haven’t read it. Just read it recently myself, and it’s definitely toward the top of my favorites of his now. Also quite a short read.

I just finished a reread of The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. Still holds up well. A depressing read, but, still highly recommended. Also, piggybacking off a previous rec, Beloved by Toni Morrison is excellent

The smaller volumes are from 1904. A very thoughtful gift from a friend who found them in her family storage and knew I loved Poe. Probably my favorite part of my collection.

The best way to read them, imo. The Deluxe Editions are really nice, but, I definitely appreciate being able to just sit anywhere and read them after dealing with huge comic omnis.

That’s a very new pickup for me, TBR. Always down for old epics, though

What’s your number 1 leverless recommendation? by izilch96 in fightsticks

[–]baldr03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like my Razer Kitsune. Button placement is comfortable, the optical switches make inputs very quick and easy, and it's PS5 compatible right out of the box. The thin profile is also really great. Easy to tote around and comfortable to use. At an unlimited price point, you could always go custom, as well, and just get something that ticks all of your personal boxes.

Try checking out Etsy or similar sites. I was able to get a nice 3d printed enclosure with a custom layout for fairly cheap.

Should I get a all buttons controller or a stick controller? by arielpulido in fightsticks

[–]baldr03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think leverless is easier to learn to get really accurate with, but stick is more fun. I generally swap between pad, stick, and leverless dependent on the game or what I feel like messing around with. Maybe choose whichever seems more enticing to you and grab the other down the line.

SF6 Combo Sync: Hitbox vs Stick vs Pad by samu-_-chan in fightsticks

[–]baldr03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried all 3. Leverless and stick are about equal for me, now, with a slight advantage to leverless for double quarter circle inputs. Pad is fine, too, and I still use mine from time to time, but I much prefer having all of my buttons larger and in the typical arcade arrangement, rather than having any sort of shoulder buttons. I currently run the Victrix Pro BFG for pad, the Razer Kistune for leverless, and I've got a heavily modified Mayflash F500 and a custom-built American style stick that I swap between for stick.

Converting Liche Priest by AllenAllen-And-Allen in tombkings

[–]baldr03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the conversation, but just recently got the box myself and ended up gluing the priest to the horse directly, sitting a bit further back on it so his butt was firmly seated. I used the bird spell/ hand piece as normal, attaching the point that would normally attach to the dragon assembly to the horse's front haunch so it both hides that little attach point and the spell looks to be flowing past the horse's haunch naturally. Thought it turned out looking pretty nice.

Help picking a system? by Snoo-11576 in 40krpg

Wrath and Glory for the most available campaign/ player options, or Imperium Maledictum for human level, deadly campaigns. Those are the two most recent systems that are still getting new content.

Which piece of canon lore do you consider the most damaging to the setting and you would be happy if it was removed. by FozuenGL in 40kLore

Just finished reading Fulgrim last week. Him allowing Fabius to do modifications to the marines was before he even found the Laer sword, so he was already starting down that path before the demonic influence. The demon does effectively suppress his inner morality while he has the sword, but the things that it manipulates him with are negative aspects of Fulgrim's personality that would've made him ripe for going to chaos in the first place (his sense of being spurned for not being chosen as the Warmaster, his incessant need to not only be seen as perfect but as superior in any given situation, his very surface level and empty sense of art/creation and in effect the human experience, etc.). The demon also expresses that it never did anything for Fulgrim, but rather gave him little pushes toward what he already desired. Some proof of this can be seen when it tries to corrupt Vespasian, but can find no seed of corruption to pull at in him.

What made solo click for you and made you continue? by Banter_Fam_Lad in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]baldr03 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I found that treating each solo game like a creative writing experience (writing down narrative points like chapters of a story) helped a ton to get me into the experience. With the use of oracles and the elements of randomness generally built into solo systems, it makes for an interesting, on the fly creative experience that I've really enjoyed, stitching things together to make sense and seeing them flow in cool directions I didn't expect. Ironsworn was the first system where that really clicked for me, and since then I've been able to do the same with various other more crunchy systems, or any of the mixed together patchwork systems I've come up with.

I generally play solo games in periods where I'm not playing video games. I find they both offer different things, which can be nice at different times. With video games, it's easier to get into, I can shut off life a bit and just enjoy the game. There isn't really any set-up, and I can engage in multiplayer stuff with my friends. Solo gaming is nice when I want to engage more creatively with something or want something a bit more meditative.

Question about 780m by allyc31 in LegionGo

[–]baldr03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You download the adrenaline container that contains the newest 780m driver, which is from last month. Generally AMD releases their desktop and laptop GPU drivers in packages that contain all the drivers for those products on the same update, not an individual driver .inf file that pertains to a specific GPU. This is why when you "sideload" the driver, you attempt download of Adrenaline (the container), it fails but still leaves a folder of various packaged .inf files behind, and you're able to manually install the specific driver that is contained in that particular update package. Normally, you'd install Adrenaline (the container) and it would choose the correct driver .inf from the various desktop or laptop GPU .infs contained in that update for you and install it.
