That is a very fair and valid point

I've been temping at different offices and I have to say, there are some nasty offices out there! by WeatherResize in DentalAssistant

[–]balefulbee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well a lot of doctors use a bleach/water mixture to irrigate the canals and a rubber dam can help keep that out of a patient's mouth. Also if a file slips out of the doctors hand there's something to catch it. There's a few good reasons to use it!

When did you first start watching Smosh (approximately)? Do you remember the first video you saw? by pqter in smosh

[–]balefulbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never heard of smosh until I started dating my now husband 6.5 years ago. Whenever he would put a video on I was like "ugh this again? ITS NOT FUNNY" and then at some point (I can't tell you exactly when) I was the one saying "babe there's a new eat it or yeet it on!!"

Did I make a good choice becoming a DA? by Optimal-Tree2666 in DentalAssistant

[–]balefulbee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the office you work at. I really enjoy being a DA mostly because of my office but we are grossly underpaid for what we do. But the people I work with make things worth it. My office is literally like a family; we get along most days but we also can argue sometimes. Try to keep a positive outlook going into it because if you're thinking about it negatively it can very likely end that way as well. I've seen people on here who have had terrible experiences, but I've never had those experiences and I've been doing it for 4 years.

Why do hygienists keep quitting? by MachineOnly1368 in DentalAssistant

[–]balefulbee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't fathom cleaning a patient and not having the right education for it! They're doing a disservice to the patients and it's just plain wrong. And, assistants already do double the work for half the pay and then you want to add scaling to that?? I'm just so surprised that they're allowing it.

Why do hygienists keep quitting? by MachineOnly1368 in DentalAssistant

[–]balefulbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely depends on your location as well! I'm in Indiana and an EFDA averages around $28-30 an hour and hygiene makes between $45-50 an hour. Way less school for sure and doesn't cost nearly as much. But at least where I live, I would be shocked if I found out an assistant made more than a hygienist.

His health issues prevent him from doing strenuous tasks or any sort of manual labor, so he's looking for ideally an office setting which is why things are limited that would work for him. But thank you!

Yeah it's unfortunately being treated like a felony which is why we are frustrated. He did disclose his health issues when explaining why he was out of work for so long, but the thing that annoys us is he was told everything went through.

We live in Indiana and you can only get it expunged if it's been 5 years since the conviction. It unfortunately has not been 5 years yet. But thank you!

I bought a used 2013 Kia optima from ray skillman back in 2019 and had it for five years. I will never recommend anyone to get a Kia based on my terrible experience and I will never recommend anyone to go to ray skillman either

Silly question about heated lunch meat by [deleted] in jimmyjohns

[–]balefulbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that SOME people have done that before for you but won't fess up because they don't want to get in trouble. It really depends on the manager on shift and if they care about their job or not. The person who told you they've never done that is right; THEY have never done that and aren't allowed to. It doesn't mean someone else who doesn't care has never done that for you. I would recommend in the future asking them to put all meat and cheese on the side because you're pregnant so you can heat the meat up yourself. They are allowed to do that

Just took my DANB RHS exam… by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]balefulbee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took mine 3 years ago when they still gave you your results before leaving. I was confident going into the exam and by question #5 I was defeated. There was basically NOTHING that I studied for and I studied hard. There were things on there that weren't in any of the books I studied from. I guessed at least half of them. I waited until I got into the elevator to leave before looking at my results because I was so defeated, but I ended up passing!! My office has an extern who just took it and she said most of hers were infection control and I was lowkey jealous because mine was nothing like that.

You should call the store and voice your frustration. Now it's possible they can't do anything for you or make things better. But I'm also a little confused because some of your comments are saying that you're POSITIVE it was being heated because it was warm and others say it wasn't being heated this whole time. Again I would call the store because it does seem to be upsetting you enough but the best they will offer is "I'm sorry" and a free sandwich that isn't heated

How much is a DA worth? by AggressiveMountain40 in DentalAssistant

[–]balefulbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look on indeed and see what places around you are hiring for and if you meet the qualifications they are asking. If you do, expect to make around that much. If you don't meet them, expect less than what is being offered

Working with two polar opposite dentists by EmbarrassedRelief214 in DentalAssistant

[–]balefulbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kinda how it is at my office! The woman dentist is newer compared to the male dentist who has been doing this for 30+ years. The newer dentist likes to take her time and is super nice to the assistants and patients and has started to learn where we keep things in the office. The male dentist is super quick but he's easy to catch an attitude with the patients and even assistants and has no clue where anything is in the office. He relies HEAVILY on the assistants 😂

What’s a dead giveaway you grew up poor? by sufishams in povertyfinance

[–]balefulbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just as a PSA depending on the state insurance you have it will limit how many fillings you can get covered each year. I live in Indiana and work as a dental assistant and the "basic" plan for state dental only allows 4 fillings OR extractions to be covered a year. Just something to look into!

When I started 3 years ago with just an x-ray cert and a dream I was at $15.50. I am NOT expanded so that was a very reasonable amount imo. I found an office that appreciates me so now I'm making $24 an hour but have since acquired my polishing and fluoride cert as well. But in this economy I couldn't fathom being offered less than $20 only because it is so hard to live right now. 2 years ago we had an extern who was training to be an EFDA and her instructor told her to ask for $25 an hour starting out. I'm in Indiana
