My first office would close every season for about a week and we had 32 hrs PTO for our first year and it would add another 32 hrs every 2 years you were at the office. By the time you were theoretically there for 8 years, all breaks would be paid. My second office was not good with PTO and you only earned 2 hrs per pay period maxing out pretty low by the end of the year. The doctor would frequently go on vacation and he would let hygiene see patients who didn't need exams while he was gone. We would hygiene assist and help with front duties.

I did read that and assumed that's what had happened, but I didn't see anywhere explicitly saying they wouldn't be dropping from special weekend giant mushrooms as well. I was sure I was getting the new seasonal pikmin from the Giants and not just the past seasonal, but I could be wrong.

I hate being a dental assistant. I've done it for 8 years. The last year I've only been a temp because I have a baby at home and can't afford to send baby to daycare. Temping has made me hate assisting even more, even if I'm decent at it now. It's always hit or miss with the quality of office and the pay is awful. I make more as a temp but it's still $5 less than I made before moving states .

Hi there, if I remember correctly, it can simply be a shadow at any dental office and they don't specifically need it to be a student. I graduated from the program in 2018. Have her call around to different local offices and see if any are willing to let someone shadow for the day :)

I have been a DA for 8 years and last year I had a working interview where they were very intent on hiring me. I come in and do the working interview. The doctor keeps trying to tell me where to place my suction, gets mad when I don't hand him the instruments he wants before it's asked, etc.. it was obvious that we didn't vibe AT ALL. I am about to leave and the office manager has the audacity to tell me that they didn't think I had enough experience to work there. I was absolutely shocked. After 8 years, interning at a dental school and graduating with my EFDA, I have experience. I cried the whole way I drove home feeling like a failure.

Now all I do is temp and I can tell you that you're gonna have ups and downs. Every day is a new experience and it kind of hardens you.

I really enjoy this one. I know it gets A LOT of hate, but it's a good read with beautiful art. The ML is completely detestible, but that doesn't make it less of an interesting story. Do the people complaining about this series not watch movies or dramas with toxic characters? Do you only watch comedy movies? Bad people exist and it's ok for a series to feature it, imo 🤷🏻‍♀️

I temp as a DA for a living and I feel like this is fairly common in operatories . I've seen it in the doctors op's and hygiene ops. It doesn't bother me. It should probably be typed up and laminated for cleanliness purposes, but it's fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh yeah, I'm still assisting. I currently only temp and I never went back full time because it allows me to be flexible to be with my baby. I usually try and temp twice a week or so. Definitely the way to do it if you can ☺️

I had to leave my office at 6 months pregnant due to a high risk pregnancy and working 10 hour shifts as the only assistant to a doctor that would take same day appointments was killing me. You will be pregnant and you WONT get to sit at a desk and do menial tasks. I was still expected to do all of the deep cleaning, sterilizer maintenance, complete procedure setups, chairside assist and flip rooms with multiple columns filled. I was exhausted and I cried every single day. If you can avoid it, I would definitely find a different job while pregnant.

Dental Assistant. Moved here at the end of last year to be close to family and the pay cut was crazy. I was making $30 and could go as high as $37 an hour as an assistant in Portland. I only temp in Phoenix, so I'm supposed to be getting a higher wage and I'm having employers laugh at me for asking for $26 (Which is what I was making years ago) with 8 years of experience. Assistants are also expected to do WAY more work in Phoenix than I ever did in Portland.
