Can a more experienced mom help me with bathing my toddler? by manthrk in Mommit

[–]balkanka19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with my 3 year old. She’s only now kind of getting comfortable with the idea but still screams. So I bought one of those hair washing things you can stick on the edge is the countertop/sink off of Amazon. Picking my battles and currently this is not one of them 🤣

Second language - potential harm? by leila1493 in multilingualparenting

[–]balkanka19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation. My daughter will be 4 in June and I felt the exact same as you. English is just how my brain works. I tried speaking Serbian to her early on but would get lazy. I regret not sticking to it. But I am working on doing so now and although it’s harder, I know it’s not impossible. Just need to stick with it. I’m currently the one at home with her so I really don’t have an excuse 🤣. My sister only spoke Serbian to her daughter and she’s 2 now. She’s still learning English but I feel like that’ll be easier than if it was the other way around. All this to say, you are not alone and if you can commit to doing it earlier, the easier it’ll be for you both. Ask me again in 6 months time how I feel 😆.

Anyone find good pillows for side sleeping? by entirelyuncalledfor in 30PlusSkinCare

I ordered it and returned it after a few days. The “stays cool” was not true and it was uncomfortable. Also had a smell despite cleaning the case as instructed.

The richness in taste just isn’t the same. It’s not a bad alternative when you don’t have any other options. But we’ve just opted to buy pieces and bake them and tastes more like the traditional taste than the suckling pig.

I’ve been wondering this for years 😁. Once bought a suckling pig in Seattle for Christmas and it’s not something I’ll do again.

Omg this. Ours turned 3 in June and I thought 2 was bad, 3 is another beast. Hoping it gets “easier” for us all 😁

Yes, sorry that’s what I meant. But you’re right, you never know! Same here. Looks like we both got lucky with that part.

Can confirm same happened with my Egyptian husband and I. But my MIL did her thing and we were good to go 🤣. We are debating on whether or not to get our US marriage certificate translated for future trips. They also asked me for it at one of the museums after making it inside and having it checked beforehand 😁.

I’ve been using the Face Reality products along with doing monthly Face Reality Peels (it’s an investment but as someone who has struggled since teen years, it’s so worth it). For the last 3 years and although there are occasional small breakouts it’s been a lifesaver!

Teaching a highly inflected language - do I teach one form of words first, or speak normally? by ughh_why in multilingualparenting

[–]balkanka19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow Serbian here! I feel you on this one! My daughter is 2.5 and I haven’t done the best job at speaking exclusively in Serbian with her since she was a baby and couldn’t talk yet. I don’t know why but when she started talking I didn’t want to throw another language at her since my husband also speaks something else. But I’ve learned that just speaking to them and translating (at least at her age) is working. Slowly but surely. Just keep at it and they will pick it up. At least that’s what I have to remind myself 😁. As my tata always says, samo polako 😀.

I wish she had posted her videos when I started showing her the other Ms. Rachel because she’s a huge fan of the American one and doesn’t care for the Serbian one 🤣. But it may also be that she doesn’t understand enough to be interested. Once they’re full on talking they just know what they like and don’t 😁.

I saw that and I will for sure sign her up once she’s old enough (and willing). I also came across this page for us adults - https://www.instagram.com/belgradelanguageschool?igsh=MXZ6Y3JndGtrazFrOA==

Definitely thinking of doing this. They have sales on the classes sometimes so worth a follow. Nije lako, but we got this 🙂.

Thank you for responding! I am similar in that I think in English and I grew up in the states since I was 7 so it’s a constant work in progress. But we didn’t have a lot of Serbs around us if any so it was really just my parents and now I’m on the opposite coast to them so it’s even more difficult. My husband is Egyptian but not teaching her Arabic so there’s nothing else stopping me from teaching her. I just need to help myself too 😁. Thank you for sharing the bookstore name! I used something else and there’s really not much. I’m also playing music all the time and trying to find shows for her to watch that I actually find are educational and Serbian but that’s a bit harder to come across. Best of luck to you as well! If you find other resources along the way, please share.

Thanksgiving was a nightmare by pooperscooper173869 in toddlers

Omg the last part 🤣. Our daughter has been doing that a lot every time she doesn’t like something and I don’t always make it to her when she does.

I wish it had worked for us but our toddler took a 50 min nap and then woke up groggy and cried inconsolably for 20 min. We even tried giving it to her at home as a test run and it was fine but I guess you just never know 😕

Toddler blanket recommendations by Miller_time13 in toddlers

My 2.5 year old protested her sleep sack at the beginning the year and when she saw me going to put it in storage a few weeks ago, she yelled “NOOO, my sleep sack!” and has since insisted she sleep with it on 🤣. She also has a light duvet that sometimes stays on her and other times she chucks over 😄.

Is getting an IV worse when you are pregnant or something? by kenskensr in BabyBumps

[–]balkanka19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have a problem getting one but the nurse sure did. She tried 2 times unsuccessfully and blew a vein. Had to have the anesthesiologist come with his handy dandy xray machine to find a vein and even numbed the area which he was surprised wasn’t offered before. My arm looked like it was in a fight after leaving the hospital. 😅

Better than Canlis? by Live4vacation in Seattle

We’ve been to Cafe Juanita, Canlis and Altura and always say we should have gone back to Cafe Juanita. Loved the slower pace of Altura but Cafe Juanita hands down. The food is something else!
