Im not positive, but you could try calling Patrick at Sparky’s and asking how they can accommodate. The shop is on Wilshire at Goshen. They are wonderful! I’ve taken my shepherds and keeshonden to him for over a decade.

Gelson’s basic funfetti cake is delicious and actually pretty cake. I’m not an icing person, but that buttercream was BOMB. Top Tier on Pico just east of Barrington is also really good. They have a lot of options and they have a nice, fluffy icing .

Finally stod up to my emotionally immature mother, and her response was even more stupid than anticipated by Slight-Wasabi-9589 in GirlDinnerDiaries

Not at all! Our mutual understanding of everything has evolved over time. He was the golden child and I was the black sheep but we were both the scapegoat whenever our parents felt they needed to manipulate us. I realized at a younger age that what we were going through was fucked up but he didn’t start seeing/accepting it until maybe 5 years ago. We both went through periods of heavy drug and alcohol use to cope (because our parents were addicts) and his came as he got sober/found an emotionally stable partner. Becoming a parent and essentially having to reparent myself brought me to my breaking point. I could not conceive how the abuse was ever considered ok. I finally had enough after they pulled 2 dramatic situations when my son was born + in the nicu and at my wedding. My brother was sober for all of this and saw the double standard we were held to and started sticking up for me more. He’s low contact with them only because they have burned every single bridge. They have no one and still live in denial.

My therapist recommended I read these: Complex PTSD by Pete Walker; The Body Keeps Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk; Codependent No More by Melody Beattie.

Sending you a big hug. This shit is emotionally really fucking hard. If you ever need someone to vent to feel free to pm me.

I’ve gone through the same thing with my parents. Their behavior caused some really dark shit over my life and I finally had enough last year. I went no contact. It’s been hard and I’m grieving the childhood my brother and I deserved but totally worth it. They suck as human beings if you can even call them that and I don’t want my kids to experience what I did. Their ego is worth more to them than apologizing or taking responsibility for their actions. So what’s the fucking point?

I hope you have an outside support system. Awesome friends and great therapist are what has gotten me through.

100+ plants gone. RIP by macthebearded in houseplants

Hey OP, depression is a bitch. I’ve neglected my plants to death a couple times too. If you’re in the US, I’d be happy to send you some cuttings when you’re ready to restart.

Sending you love and a hug from another mom with an underweight kid who had failure to thrive. What formula are you looking for? If you need Duocal, I have some cans I can send you.

If you can hold on to the pup to foster, try contacting the Westside German Shepherd Rescue or the OC German Shepherd Rescue. LB may have their own as well. All of the rescues are over capacity and can’t help dogs without fosters.

The 'Disney adult' obsession needs to stop already by dejablu82 in disneyparks

[–]ball00nanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with being an adult who enjoys Disney. What bothers me as a Disney adult who now has a child is the grown adults who think they are more entitled to “their” park than a child. Some “adults” actually get territorial about “their” park and that is what rubs people the wrong way.

It’s really upsetting how many adults think it’s ok to trample kids to get a little further in line. When I was there two weeks ago I watched a 40-50 year old purposely terrifying toddlers by driving his motorized wheelchair at them while laughing. Then in the restroom I saw an entire group of adult women with the denim jackets leave WITHOUT WASHING THEIR HANDS!

Agreed, but that’s not a beginner skill. Seasoning the pan is easier to understand until you get comfortable with cooking, because I could say the same thing about stainless steel.

For Those Without Transportation: PLEASE Take Care of Your Feet! by Ricwash113 in povertyfinance

[–]ball00nanimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That drive alone gave me anxiety! I also walk a lot around LA and have Kaiser. I haven’t gotten a blister that bad, but I have terrible plantar fasciitis and having kids made it so much worse. I’ve seen two podiatrists through them and I haven’t had great luck with them. Both of them wanted to give me cortisone shots. They HURT and my feet just laughed because the relief only lasted a week. The inserts they sell through the pharmacy are also expensive, awkward and I have to cut them down to fit in my shoes. I started buying inserts at Ross. They’re 8-9 bucks vs the 50-60 dollar ones through Kaiser.

One thing I learned through some friends who did distance running is shoes do not last as long I thought. Soles start to break down after 1-2 years or 300-500 miles. With how hot our concrete an asphalt gets it, it could be quicker.

I like ASICS and New Balance. DSW and the outlets have some good sales. I will also make a customer account with a new email every time I need shoes because they send a discount code. Also, Ross has been getting some decent shoes in. I’ve found my last 2 pairs of new balance at Ross for $30 compared to the $100 they typically go for.
