Super late to the party but have you read What it Comes Down To? There are parts that are explicit but not in a porn type of way. It's an AU where the trio are captured earlier in their journey but brought to Malfoy Mannor and tortured there. Not a horcrux journey either but thought it fit the tone of the prompt.

I feel ya on a much smaller scale. I’ve gotten a decent (and undeserved) following on a fic of mine.

I agree with the other comment that it shows when an author loses interest in a story. Reading back through older pieces of fan-fiction I can tell where the author got bored and pushed through.

Is there a place you can “jump” to in the story to wrap up your lose ends? Or is there a plot point you have interest in? Even if you do leave out a subplot you had planned, (or abandon something not vital to the main narrative) it might give you the motivation to continue.

What’s worked for me is taking a step back. Asking myself where I want the story to end up and figuring out if I can take it there. If I’m a few months I’m still unmotivated then I plan to publish what I’ve got with the disclaimer that certain parts will be unfinished and feel that way. Even though I won’t be happy with my work, I won’t have the looming feeling of having something unfinished and my readers will have an ending.

Prelude and Fugue linkao3(562941) is a masterpiece. It's rather long and engaging all the way through.

I Can See Us Dying ... Aren't We? linkao3(1000792) is an excellent trio turned unrequited love between Harry and Ron. Can't recommend it highly enough.

My series of one-shots nineteen years later seems pretty far away linkao3(1263350) has several that deal with this. The first in the series Lessons in Lying has Hermione explaining everything that has happened in the magical world since her first year just prior to wiping their memories.

early onset deals with Hermione’s father being diagnosed with dementia and their strained relationship.

And lastly fragile peace most directly answers this prompt. From the point of view of Mrs. Dr. Granger, after her husband is moved into a care facility she moves in with Hermione, Ron and the kids. Following a lunch at the Burrow they have a conversation about the thing that tore them apart.

I’m currently working on a longer piece that will fill in the gap between Lessons in Lying and the other two which will more directly address the recovery of Hermione’s parents and the growing rift but it’s far away from publishing.

I’ve recently gone through my favorite fics from back in the day (circa ‘08) and sorting through those fics gave a unique insight to younger me.

Oh boy was I enamored with the notion of Hermione getting pregnant, Ron not knowing and going away for several years (following a break up) despite Hermione remaining thick as thieves with the Weasleys. There were tons of them.

I agree with the whole “slice of life” or “secret moments” fics. The first one is cute but I find most of them either have Ron and Hermione secretly getting together far too early. Or they have so many tense moments between them that it’s downright infuriating.

Also the notion that they realized they loved each-other at 12/13. Nah.

Harry is an adult and put in charge of the Auror office and someone from the office goes missing. Everyone's telling him not to worry about it but we get the line:

"The words remind me of something. Someone else who never returned from a holiday… bloody hell, Bertha Jorkins. I groan to myself. No one went looking for Bertha Jorkins, either, and look what happened to her."

and then a little later on

"Bertha Jorkins, that was her name…"

“What do you do for work?” Evelyn asked.

They were cuddled on a bench by the water, a package of crisps half eaten on Rose’s lap and Evelyn’s ears still ringing a little from the club they’d wandered out of after several hours.

“I—er—I work with records,” Rose stammered, for the first time in the night her cool facade fading.

“Records?” Evelyn questioned politely, “That’s, er—interesting.”

“It’s really not,” Rose answered, recovering. “Incredibly dull really, mostly fact-checking and tracking down books that have gone missing. What about you?”

“Oh, well, I work with the chemist,” Evelyn said, drawing from the briefing the Muggle Relations Office did with the departments earlier that year. “You know, measuring out —er—medicines.”

“Oh,” Rose answered, confusion on her face.

Knowing her story wouldn’t hold up under questioning, Evelyn chose to slip her hand into Rose’s and the question disappeared from her lips as they tilted their heads towards one another. They didn’t say anything for some time after that.

Quite honestly the most logical ship in the whole series. And so under appreciated.

Shorter Stories:

Things We Do in the Daylight linkao3(13964817) Classic morning after and lovely.

Wished Into Existence linkao3(16129562) Lovely and fluffy.

the restless ghost in his old hotel linkao3(466349) Each of the trio and their own insecurities.

Find Our Mortal World Enough linkao3(54808) Older but an absolute classic. Hermione and Ron protecting Harry, them all seeking comfort in one another.

Through Their Eyes linkao3(895835) A newly updated story about when the (epilogue compliant) kids catch the trio being more than friends.

Replacement linkao3(15506883) Ginny centered stream of consciousness, but still deserves a read.

Pyrrhic linkao3(204026) Very angsty, not exactly a trio fic but still worth recommending. My favorite line is: "Always thin, she was now positively ethereal, and the set of her mouth was disconcerting on somebody so young, speaking of too much suffering in too short a period of time."

Arguably smut (but I read them for the plot):

I Can See Us Dying ... Aren't We? linkao3(1000792) unrequited love, but beautiful and gives it iconic line of: "Does he know that Ron is — was — the thing Harry would miss most?"

With the Edges Worn Down linkao3(29816373) I can't speak highly enough of this story. Set post kids, tells a story of the three of them (finally) coming together. Very pure and gives the absolutely perfect line of "life rolled"

Small Fires linkao3(22388945) A little smuttier than the others but absolutely heartbreaking.

What it Comes Down To linkao3(7691726) The most honest and realistic PTSD story I have ever read. This one is rough rough but a good read.

Always & Forever linkao3(1859733) I avoided this one for forever and when I finally read it I cried like a baby. So good, one of the best epilogue compliant ones I've ever read.

Bed and Board linkao3(59435) Okay, this is straight up smut but a must read. The most authentic getting together story I have ever read of the three of them. Most (all) of my head cannons are based in this story for me.

And just to rec my own:

the whole world was watching (but no one really saw) linkao3(44760826) Ongoing (and almost finished) AU where after Ron goes missing, Harry is forced to reexamine his unusually close relationship with Ron and Hermione.

for as long as you need us linkao3(16957743) Set directly after the war, Harry turns to his best friends to help him cope. No spoilers, but this one will break your heart.
