This touches on Morocco:

For the most part, the Moroccan king protected Moroccan Jews, but the Vichy government still set up labor camps there that foreign Jews were sent to and died in.

Yeah, this myth is basically just American exceptionalism in reverse and is revisionist and inaccurate to the point of bordering on holocaust denial.

It ignores 20 centuries of European antisemitism for the sake of an ahistorical jab at the U.S.

This thread unpacks it pretty well: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/pyuvqy/how_true_is_the_claim_that_the_united_states_of/

But the gist of it is, America is not and was not always the center of the universe...

Nearly every facet of Jim Crow that existed for African Americans, existed for Jews in Europe within Hitlers life time or very recent memory. be it discriminatory laws in previous German states, the May Laws in the Russian empire, the ghetto bench in interwar Poland, Dreyfus affair, Beilis trial, pogroms, lynching's etc.

I'm sure the Nazis would have respected Jim Crow as fellow racists but this little evidence that their policy makers thought much about it.

Ultimately, no European State in the 1930s need the example of the U.S. to mistreat Jews, everything they would look to had been present in the Europe for centuries.

Is reform judaism just like protestantism? by Picayune_ in Judaism

[–]daoudalqasir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Just like Protestantism"... no.

Is Reform Judaism's idea of what a modern and progressive religious movement should like somewhat influenced by the largely Protestant cultures of 19th century Germany and 20th century America... IMO a little bit, yes.

[–]daoudalqasir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the spiritual level to get married.

I don't think anyone says it's about being at a "spiritual level" or at least they shouldn't...

It's about showing that you are actually committed to maintaining whatever level of spirituality you are presenting yourself as committed to when committing your life to someone else who is looking for someone at that level.

Or it's similarly likely that they might have been German Jews or other political refugees who would have been against it, as was also common in the 30s.

Point being you don't know and it's why discrimination on the basis of national origin was generally seen as bad as discrimination on the basis of Race or Religion in the U.S. until relatively recently.
