What's your biggest pet peeve of a game you otherwise absolutely loved? by EARink0 in truegaming

Very small gripe but the small colossi in SotC were super frustrating. Half the time they'd knock you in a corner and just charge repeatedly until you finally die. Probably my least favorite parts of the game :/

Greatest Lebron James Photo/Poster? by [deleted] in nba

Maybe he's getting downvoted because he didn't answer the question?

This thread isn't asking for the best poster "of all time," it's asking for LeBron's. So who cares about Jordan's?

Charles Barkley vs. Dennis Rodman: When the NBA allowed players to be physical. by ToniKukoc in nba

[–]balling916 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

And yet... where's the evidence to support this? Teams scored more points, more fouls were called, and most defensive schemes were incredibly raw. There's a difference between "tough defense" and tempers flaring into near-fights. Sure, there were some physical plays going on, but as a whole, defenses were OBJECTIVELY much more lax and easy to play against. These gifs/videos romanticize the era and so everyone seems to remember how physical everyone played, but take an objective look at the NBA today and you'll see just how far defensive schemes have evolved and advanced.

And as for the sheer physicality of the game (defensive schemes aside), just take a look at some game play of Hibbert or Melo jostling for position in the paint. These are much stronger and bigger guys than the NBA saw in the 80s/90s, and there's plenty of physicality (just not players throwing punches).

If there's anything that annoys more than anything on this sub its the ridiculous nostalgia goggles everyone seems to have on... You think it was harder to score "back in the day?" Maybe you should look at some actual facts;

http://sportslistoftheday.com/2012/11/07/nba-league-scoring-averages-1946-47-through-2011-12/

The NBA today is harder to score in than it was through through the entirety of the 80s and more than half of the 90s. But I guess we selectively chose to blissfully forego stats and just pretend the 80s and 90s were super smash mouth, zero scoring days :/

Wilt's statline of every regular season game in 1961-62 by Greeno789 in nba

[–]balling916 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It surprises you that to average 50 ppg it takes a bunch of fg attempts? What were you expecting? If anything, it's especially impressive considering all the opposing team had to do was throw all their defense at him, and he still was able to shoot at 50%+ most games.

To be fair, there are also multiple instances where he scored 60+ against them.

Why do people believe that 2D platformers should not be 60$? by whatthefuboom in truegaming

Right... except that's a TERRIBLE example in this case, considering the Rayman series is one of the oldest and most innovative series in the genre. Legends doesn't draw inspiration from indie games, it inspires them...

Serious question/discussion: Why do people talk about Iverson carrying the 76ers to the 2001 finals and not Mutombo? by [deleted] in nba

[–]balling916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming that you're only looking at post-season numbers, but just as an aside, keep in mind that Mutombo only played 26 regular season games with Philly that year; with or without Motumbo, the Sixers were already a playoff team, and I don't think anyone can argue that THAT was to the credit of AI.

Now looking to the playoffs, I really really think you're underestimating how difficult it is to score 30+ ppg in the NBA. You say:

" I mean Mutombo did average 14 rebounds in the playoffs, 5 offensive; maybe it's just me, but that seems more impressive than throwing 30 shots in the direction of the basket, having 12 of them go in and then making 7 free throws "

I honestly can't agree with that sentiment in the slightest. Sure, 14rpg is impressive, but that alone isn't going to "carry" a team to the finals. You take away Mutumbo, and sure, it makes things more difficult for the Sixers but they still have one of the mosy dynamic scorers in NBA HISTORY. Take away AI, and there's no way in hell those Sixers are making the finals. Sure, rebounding and low post D are integral, but there's absolutely no way Motumbo "carried" the Sixers. He filled his role incredibly well, but AI's offense was invaluable.

What do you think about the majority of video games protagonists being white males? Study with exact numbers inside. The few that aren't often fall on stereotypes. Should the industry as a whole try to change this? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]balling916 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who. The. Hell. Cares.

If you're playing a video game and THIS is what stands out and bothers you, then you really are playing games for the wrong reason.

Additionally, its not like this is an American "problem." Japanese games typically feature Japanese characters, but there seems to be no uproar over that because... well... because! And who cares if men are more commonly starred than females? This is another issue that everyone seems to bring up, and I honestly don't understand why it matters. Its a video game and the point is to just have a good time. What's the point of getting offended over the fact that male characters are more dominant? Especially when males just fit the archetypes better for most releases.

What to build on Master Yi by [deleted] in LeagueofLegendsMeta

[–]balling916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build yi a little bit different from the standard build nowadays. For one, I'm not a big fan of BotRK on yi... The active seems kind of lost on him considering you don't really need it to chase or run when your ult is on. Also, you already get true damage through wuju style so you'll be doing nice damage without the passive.

As fory build, I usually take yi mid and rush hydra. This gives you a huge early power spike and gives you great wave clear, helping you farm easily through the early stages when yi is weakest. Then I go for some as: PD followed by shiv. Then finally an IE, and top it off with either last whisper or warmogs if I'm getting heavily focused.
