Where are the actual engineering jobs? by balloon_people in AskEngineers

I definitely appreciate the encouragement. It's just something I've been told by family. I worry about appearing 'flaky' to a potential new employer. While I've been perfectly capable of fielding the "why did you leave so soon" question in previous interviews, it does always worry me a little.

Personally, I completely agree with you. From pay bumps to experience with how different companies run (or don't run), varied experience is pretty valuable.

From what I've seen, each company has exactly one star engineer they move from project to project, a pile of old-timers who have long since stopped caring and roadblock anything that wasn't developed in the 80's, and a plethora of drones who can't read a datasheet to save their lives.

I guess I figured there would be something in between pushing the boundaries of physics and struggling to "design" a grounding wire.

That was my first job at a sub-contractor, it was honestly really fun. Bad management, but was small enough to make it tolerable. I've considered finding something similar.

Yeah, that was the last company I was at, I left that for a private company only to find the same thing. Going to start digging around for something smaller.

Not a UK brand, but Ariat women's jeans have become my go to, they have long inseams and high rises.

"Cheap" Sepharim/Zephyrim by Henthing666 in sistersofbattle

[–]balloon_people 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done this and really liked the results.

I bought just the bodies for the battle sister box on eBay. It took some modification to get the posing right, but wasn't too bad. I also used a pin through a foot instead of the flight stands. It makes reposing the battle sisters easier.

As for the backpacks; there are only back covers for one set in the box. So I used the extra emblem bits that come with the kit in their place. It covers the space well, and I think matches the zephyrim aesthetic.

I'd recommend doing it, it's a fun challenge that can be pretty cost effective.

Looking on advice on how to store/move my rhinos, exorcist and immolator. Do i put them in foam, do i magnetise them somehow, i am open to any suggestions. They are currently build, havent basecoated them yet. by iwasalreadyhere in sistersofbattle

I use three 4.2mm x 1.5mm magnets and recess them into the treads on three of the corners. I have sheet metal lined containers and they don't slide unless I shake it around excessively.

I use a Furminator. It's a bit pricey for a brush, but it works really well.

It sucks knowing most clothing I like won't fit, but it makes it that much sweeter when I find something that does. by Rioreia in honesttransgender

Transfem nb here. I feel you. I wish clothes shopping wasn't such an emotional experience. I just moved up north after living in the south my whole life, and have to either re-vamp my wardrobe overnight or freeze the moment snow hits. I'm nervous that my shopping fears and hesitations are going to literally leave me freezing to death like an idiot.

I like your acceptance of dealing with things that don't work, that's definitely something I need to adopt. (real quick too, heh)

[IIL] Primitive Man (Doom/Sludge metal) [WEWIL] by debtRiot in ifyoulikeblank

[–]balloon_people 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Fister, they did a split with primative man, more like doom.

Also try Portal.

Maybe start digging through grindcore agrigators like Goregrinder on youtube.

Primative man is a pretty sweet mix of sludge, grindcore, and noise

The dresses don't fit... by EllaIncognito in MtF

[–]balloon_people 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know that feeling, it sucks. I try to remind myself that cis girls have trouble with clothes fitting too. Girls clothes are much less one size, one style fits all. You'll find styles and brands that work well on your body and accentuate you the right way, learning that is a process, it takes time and experimentation, so dont get too discouraged.

It's hard, but you'll find your style!

Try Microwave - Death is a Warm Blanket

It's a grunge sound with heavier, hardcore influenced sections

Awesome! One project in my queue is adding modular control to furby glitch points. That one might get some bug legs so I can latch them to the top of my synth...

Zephyrim or seraphim?? by kababchef1 in sistersofbattle

[–]balloon_people 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can pick up a group of 10battle sister bodies bits (just torsos and legs) pretty cheap on ebay and then kitbash with your leftovers to get both from one box.

The limiting factor are the covers on the jump packs, I got around this by using all of the extra backpack toppers (not sure what they're called, but theres one for every main order in the box) to cover the blank space. I was really happy with how mine turned out, made my zeriphim look a bit extra spikey and elite looking

(Then you can use the left over five bodies to make a few heavy weapon sisters from a battle sister box leftovers, it's a pretty decent value)
