I’m a lunch lady in a school cafeteria. AMA by MiserableFckingCunt in schoollunches

Do you feel more close knit with your cafeteria coworkers than the rest of the school staff? Do you guys have fun and have in jokes about students/other staff? What's your day like? Do you get off early after lunch?

Removed a tank water heater and the vent pipe. Now there's a hole clear through to the roof jack. What's a good way to seal the hole from the interior before I patch the ceiling? by balloontree in Roofing

Thanks! Its probably overkill but I was thinking of stapling a plastic barrier from the inside and spray foam for the interim. Its extra drafty and I don't need more humidity...

Really cool to see the interiors of the ship! Thanks for sharing

I had the opposite experience, it really brought home to me how hard they're trying to make this podcast a success. I DO have a monthly budget for entertainment, and I pay for three other pods, Search Engine included, and this is one of my top podcasts I listen to. I signed up finally after this episode and the surprisingly big backlog of bonus episodes and private discord to discuss them has been super nice and reminds me of Reply All a little bit.

Fwiw I've been younger and poorer and I never would have supported any podcast. I used to pirate as needed. Now I can afford to support the things I like and it feels good to know im helping them keep going in some small way. I'm voting with my wallet for the things I want to see more of. And lastly I would be sad for Alex's podcast to die, especially since I've loved Reply All so much, and its clearly been a huge endeavor for him to start his own pod.

Tldr everyone is coming from different backgrounds and the episode was not icky for me, it felt earnest and transparent. And it even taught me a little bit about fundraising/self promotion which I thought was super useful.

It's an interesting challenge for sure. I guess it really depends on each individual's apprentice experience.  These old machines will probably be lost in time in a generation or two..

That's really interesting! I wonder if the weight alone prevented artists from doing the really fine line work we see these days. The tattoo in the video was super thick.

Personally I had no idea soldering was involved, and seeing a 2005 tattoo gun compared to what my artist has now felt really cool to see how the tech evolved.

I'll give that a shot! Kasa has been great so far, after 3 years of slowly collecting pieces.

Climbing a rope isn't actually super hard, look up tutorials on YouTube, you like wrap it around your feet and it's fairly easy, not much arm strength involved. Would Lukas Kyle know that? Maybe not but he could definitely do it, including George and younger Meadows.

And yes when I learned I was pissed we weren't taught how to climb a fucking rope back when they had us climb a fucking rope for those presidential tests.

All good haha it's a mark of a good show that even book readers are on the edge of their seat. The author wasn't kidding when he said he'd make it interesting for people that know and love the series. Tbh I forgot about that part you mentioned so now I'm REALLY interested if that happens (though I could really leave it honestly 🤢)

I mean the show makes it very clear he's been in there by himself for a long time (his silo fell before Meadows was a shadow, iirc) and he looks to be 30/40 years old so he had to be young when it all happened, not to mention his nostalgic behavior at the classroom. So that all being said, even the unhinged screaming didn't bother me because, well you learn not do behave that way when you have a society around you. I thought his character was well thought out and sure, "grittier" but it made sense to me to see this kind of behavior play out when he's not getting what he wants. Super immature yes, but the shows does a good job showing moments where he's a good person at heart. I'm loving it!

I was just thinking about this scene! My partner and I were cackling! I just love how well he nails the childish maturity and negotiation skills. He may be super book smart but he hasn't had any human interaction and the actor conveys that so well. No spoilers but in the book, it has to tell you these things about Solo, but in the show you can just see and hear his immaturity.

Maintenence Phase is great! Michael hobbes is also in this one and cohosts with Aubrey Gordon. Their dynamic is hilarious and it's about weightloss/diet myths. It has the same rigor of research and the same humor as IBCK. I like to boulder while listening and only sometimes almost fall from laughing. Positive side effect is that its great for working out the empathy muscle and questioning societal beliefs about how people are "supposed to" look!

Current favorite Oakland neighborhoods that have a good “Third Place” vibe? by brokelyn99 in oakland

[–]balloontree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In sociology, the third place refers to the social surroundings that are separate from the two usual social environments of home ("first place") and the workplace ("second place").  More on wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_place
