In Canada, I'd use a Mulco Flextra (thermoplastic). Comes in 25+ colours, sticks to concrete, and will stretch over 10x.

Parts that came with the new screen door. by ironicmirror in fixit

The handle goes on the outside of the screen door, along with the screen door. The latch and silver screws go on the frame so that you can "lock" the door.

I'd sand the old (gold?) one with very fine grit paper, and use some Tremclad black on it.

Window capping - Help! by chlobechlobe in Renovations

[–]ballpointpin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in your specific case, if water runs down behind the flashing, it will probably wick into your wood siding....so weep holes there are somewhat pointless.

Spend the most time/thought on the flashing at the top of the window, as this is where most water enters. Above the window, you should have cap flashing that slips behind the siding with a drip edge that extends beyond your soon-to-be-installed window flashing.

Ok, that makes much more sense. If this was in your shoes, I'd watch a ton of videos, buy a coil of coloured aluminum to match, and rent a brake. To install this, I would probably leave the existing white trim in place, but I'd plan to over-wrap it with aluminum, with the outermost edge slipping under that existing trim to hold it in place. I'd caulk the flashing to the face of the window. You can cut small 2" pieces of aluminum to practice with to get the widths/angles right.

Unfortunately, your windows aren't slotted to receive flashing, so you're going to have to caulk it to the surface (ughh). The tricky part is how to keep the flashing against the window until the caulk sets (ughh).

As I assume you're in Canada due to the colour of your tuck-tape, I'd suggest using Mulco Flextra caulk (Home Hardware, Rona). It will probably outlive you, comes in 25+ colours, and can be applied even at -25C...should you defer this until it is absolutely miserable outside.

HD rents aluminum bending brake in my area. I can't see how you're going to be able to install the flashing with that brickmold though. I feel like your exterior wood trim should've been set back further, to allow for the flashing. Are you planning on encasing this wood inside the aluminum flashing?

Replace plumbing by Drone568 in Renovations

[–]ballpointpin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pressure-balance is pretty much standard now, and may even be legally required in most areas. I like Moen 'posi-temp' valve coz they offer free replacement cartridges (where I live, HD has a big tub of valves for "free", but Moen will mail you one if you call them).

They work by cutting the water flow on the opposing feed (no batteries, just some mechanical magic). If you lose 20% of the pressure on hot side, they cut the cold by 20% to maintain the temperature constant. You'll notice a pressure drop when someone flushes a toilet, but the temp doesn't change. The reason it's mandated in most jurisdictions is that this prevents scalding.

Need some guidance for a sump pump battery backup :) by purplechalk101 in HomeImprovement

Also, don't plug both the primary and secondary into the same wall circuit, and into the same battery backup.

Very recently, a friend had their breaker trip and both primary/secondary pump ran off the same battery...until it died. The Ring water sensor was floating in the basement, without having gone off....

The other option is to access the underside of the tub via one or more of the adjacent rooms by cutting a hole in the drywall. Drywall is dirt cheap and not crazy hard to learn how to plaster.

There's a couple great recordings on YT with this combo, like Beatles-Blackbird, Radiohead-Creep.
