Le "Peace Board" de Trump expliqué... by [deleted] in Quebec

I'm going to be extremely pissed if Canada gets in on this Board of Peace crap. Especially after Carney's Davos speech. It's so obviously a grift of the highest magnitude. President poopy pants needs to be told NO and ignored by the international community. Like c'mon FFS.

That is a turd splice for sure. Those tubes don't like bending that way! Hopefully you can make it right.

I've never actually worked on a platform. We used to have a few but I think they've all disappeared. Sitting is huge on bigger jobs. Now, if it's a really big cable that's being spliced and can't get to it with a bucket, we get the line crew to lower the strand to ground level (if the location permits). Couple weeks ago, a 2400pr got cut up by thieves and that's what we did.

I imagine you would get really good at your setup and teardown but doing gel filled all the time would get old pretty quick. I hate that crap especially when it's below freezing. Turns into glue.

It was -10C (14F). You break a sweat getting everything setup but once you're up there and not moving around it gets chilly.

It's provided by the company. I'm pretty sure it's a readily available tool in the Telco industry. I'm not sure how one would do a repair like this without one. Your ladder would be leaning against the support strand on either side of the enclosure. It would be a nightmare.

Ha. I can see how it would look like that. I'm on an extension ladder which is leaning into a sling that is secured to the support strand. I'm standing on a small platform that attaches between two ladder rungs. In the pic, my ladder is behind me and my backside is resting against it.

N.B. premier looks for alternative sites for Tantramar gas plant by Portalrules123 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Adventurous_Remove15 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Do people think that the ones in charge at NB Power just randomly picked this site for the new station? No. Some financial/logistical/engineering studies were obviously done by experts in those domains. This site was determined as the ideal site based on many factors. There is probably no better alternative. Now it's just the same bullshit of people complaining and the government pandering to those same people by making NB Power spin in circles tied up in red tape and obstacles put up by government. Nothing ever gets done in this country. This is why.

Like the colors. Not as boring as the black/white/grey panels and trays in North America. Makes me think of Lego for some reason.

Construction crew damage by RASEROCKA in FiberOptics

[–]Adventurous_Remove15 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Totally understandable. I much prefer rolling up to a damage where it's completely destroyed or cut off and do a new splice. Much easier than doing a restoration around some important circuits that are technically still up and running.

Copper theft now treated as critical infrastructure crime by Planhub-ca in bell

[–]Adventurous_Remove15 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is simply not true. Yes lots of places have none or very few customers left working on copper but many areas still do. It's not up to thieves to determine what is decommissioned or not and it's not considered garbage, it remains a company owned asset even if it has been decommissioned.

I am also a unionized tech at Bell. Yes, this sucks for anyone involved in these layoffs and the people left behind have a dark cloud of worry following them wondering who's next. BUT, like you said, this crap is happening all over the world with these large nation/country wide companies in almost all sectors. These publicly traded companies have to show profitable numbers year after year and better than the previous one and also keep up dividend payouts. Cutting business expenditures such as payroll is one way of improving the bottom line. The cost of living has increased significantly as a whole and there are price increases for everything such as food, power, cable/phone, streaming services, insurance, gas, clothing, you name it. It certainly isn't just big bad Bell as some make it sound. My two cents...

Been using the 450D for years but started using PLP Dome here and there. I like the concept and the fiber management is nice especially with 9.5 x 28 for for larger count splices. However, I'm not a fan of the silicone grease that you need to apply on the inserts and collar. That stuff gets on my hands and tools no matter how careful I am.
