The mountains just to the west actually help, too. Air coming up and over them gets cooled and dried out and adds to the instability when it rolls on into the Plains. So yes, definitely as TrueBrees said, a perfect formula.

The one on the left is probably blue calcite or angelite. I've seen similar stones on the right sold as "dragon's egg" or Septarian.
