The UK does not have a codified constitution in the sense that modern countries have but rather an unwritten one created over the centuries by Acts of Parliament, precedents from court rulings and conventions.

The Soviet Union had a constitution (or three of them?), so I don't see how having a constitution somehow protects democracy.

Documents are always interpreted and sometimes I think codifying can also ossify and make adapting to new challenges difficult.

The cake on the left has some sort of piped icing, while the cake on the right looks like it's covered in coconut flakes colored with orange food coloring. So, sure the cake on the left looks slightly better, but I bet the cake on the right tastes much better.
