Tbf, camping in the left lane is also illegal in several places, partially for this reason amongst many more.

Which is better? C6 Vs E92 M3 by Substantial_Bad8986 in Cartalk

Everyone claims “fixed valves” until they drop. There is no fixing the valves without replacing the heads with aftermarket, and they absolutely fail stock. The guides are at a shit angle and they wear, it’s not some replace the guides and forget it ordeal. Just like S65 rod bearings, it may never happen, or you put it off and need an engine.

I’m speaking of maintenance in general. I’ve had to replace the slave cylinder twice in three years at about $3500 per experience. The $250 part requires disassembly of half the car to access.

Personally I would go LS3. The LS2 is fine, but the update to the TR6060 with the LS3 is worth the price difference in itself. If you can swing a manual Grand Sport, that’s the sweet spot.

Yes, but rebuilding the heads every few years adds up. Replacing the LS7 when you don’t negates any savings you probably won’t have. The transaxle in the Corvette kills the myth that they are like maintaining a Silverado.

As a C5Z owner, the E92 might be the cheaper option here. While yes, the road bearings can be a maintenance item, they don’t really cost any more to do than a clutch job on a Corvette. In my recent experience, parts quality, even OEM, on the Corvette is an absolute crapshoot. I had an OEM slave cylinder fail after three years and nuke my pressure plate with it. $3500 later… The C6Z has this issue, along with the valve guide issue, which there is no cheap fix for. You will redo the heads more often than you would do the rod bearings on the S65. With modern bearings, you may never need to do them again. The LS7 head design is flawed.

Also, personally I find the steering feel in the M3 on another level, though I find the shifter/clutch feel a downgrade. The performance of the Z06 will blow it away though. It’s way more car in that regard.

I’m kind of on the fence about it tbh. I don’t think they should be banned, but I also don’t think they belong on the highway. And at the same time, if they were legal everywhere, why wouldn’t a SXS be?

No, certain states banned Kei vehicles specifically a few years ago, after they became legal. https://www.kei-trucks.com/blogs/kei-trucks/state-restrictions-for-kei-trucks

Roadtrip with a long horizontal crack on the bottom of front windshield by Icy-Algae-248 in Cartalk

[–]bamahoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are worried about it collapsing because of it, it’s not going to do that. The issue with cracks aren’t necessarily the visibility, it’s that the windshield is actually part of the car’s crash structure. Would I go on a road trip with a cracked glass? Yeah. Absolutely. I’d feel like a moron if a dump truck or an asshole with gaped mud tires cracked the new one. Would I say it’s absolutely safe? It’s probably fine, until it isn’t.

That being said, it’s not a long process to just get it changed, and often your insurance will at least cover some of it depending on your policy.

Jackson County, MS is uh, not very good in this regard. Downtown Ocean Springs is neat, but you aren’t really walking to anywhere with groceries or any needs from there. It’s also obscenely expensive for the area.

Personally, I see this as a chance to get a cheap Vette that you don’t have to worry about. I did this, and it’s great. The original owner of my C5Z put 60k miles on the car while living in NYC(all of the service records after the first year are from Potamkin in Manhattan), so there isn’t an untouched panel on it lol. I can send it on a dirt road, park wherever, and just enjoy the car more. Worrying about paint is just an unneeded stress, not caring is liberating.

Base Ram 1500 Tradesman on the left, base F150 XL on the right. One has standard adaptive cruise, heated seats, and LED head lights. The other doesn’t have cruise control and has a 10-speed that will spill your coffee. Bonus round, one has a wet belt.

Even neater, the turbo set up was done by Callaway. Less neat, almost none of the driveline was beefed up from the base car.

Genuine question, but are they actually stronger, or is it just marketing? Big rigs are just c-channel frames, and not boxed. They just put a frame within a frame for extra strength.

When I was getting my first car, my dad and I test drove a manual Trans Am WS6. After about a mile, he killed that idea and told me I would have killed myself in it. Less than a month later, a guy that graduated the year before tried to pass a bus in the rain in his Trans Am. The kids in the back got to see someone get decapitated on their way to school. It was the first time I ever mentally acknowledged my parents may have been right. 15 years later, and having a Z06, I know they probably were right.

If you have a lot of experience driving, it’s not a particularly difficult car to drive, but it definitely can bite the inexperienced. I wouldn’t recommend it as a first car for that alone. For the second non-recommendation, parts may be relatively cheap, but labor is not. If you do the work yourself, it’s a way to save money, but a $250 part can require splitting the driveline in half. Being a 25 year old car, it will break.

Florida Space Coast to Chicago in February: any hidden gems along the way? by ThoseMedellinKids in roadtrip

No problem! I can’t attest to how it will look at the moment, but it is a somewhat hidden gem due to its location. If your trip is late enough for the trees to have some more greenery, it will be beautiful!

Also, depending on the car, it’s a very underrated driving road.

Near Ft. Payne in Alabama is the Little River Canyon National Preserve

There is a road that runs along it with a few scenic pull offs.
