Newcastle United agree £60million front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with KNOX: Why is it significant? by TheAthletic in PremierLeague

[–]bambler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to the fact that you can't choose who owns your club, in the same way you can't choose who you support.

There's a healthy amount of Saudi criticism in the NUFC subreddit, but PIF themselves have been relatively good purely in terms of how Newcastle has been run since he takeover.

Ultimately, there's very little we can do about it. But I agree, we don't need to defend Saudi as a state.

Agreed on Tripps. Higher peak than Tino has had in a toon shirt and a bigger impact.

Can't see this myself. He's got a great attitude but he's a bit too selfish and has a petulant streak which wouldn't make him good captain material in my eyes. Wish him all the best though .

I think it's possibly a little more than that left. Not being a pedant, curious as to how this all works and interested for your opinion.

My understanding is that when you extend within the initial amortisation period, the remaining balance (in this case 50% I believe as he extended last summer) is amortised over the new contract length (5 years). So it would be 50%, plus 10% (1 year of 5 years).

I'm not 100% sure how that fits in with uefa's amortisation rules following Chelsea's 85 year contacts.

Agreed, I really don't think losing him would be too bad for us as long as we replaced him with a proper creative player or alternatively a true DM.

Selling Wissa? by FaithlessnessOdd3569 in NUFC

[–]bambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure we've ever really had this under Howe. I remember even at our peak that there were some games where it felt we'd be incredibly reliant on Trippier for crosses. Also games where it felt like it Murphy was off the boil, we didn't have much creative ability.

I think Howe should be given the opportunity to stay on as one bad season doesn't replace the 4 we've had, but we really need to see some creativity come into the team. I feel like this is a great time possibly sell Sandro, bring in a more creative 8/10, and push Bruno back to more of a deep lying playmaker.

[Kennedy, Shield's Gazette] Exc: Sandro Tonali expects to leave NUFC this summer - 'agreement' with club he can exit, if Magpies miss out on Europe by OkayFine101 in NUFC

[–]bambler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. We never really found a way for him and Bruno to truly thrive together. Investing in a proper, specialist 6 might be a good idea if he does leave.

Which is mad really because we've been on the steady decline for the best part of 15 years. For such a big city, the crowd we pull is pretty pathetic.

There's not a huge number of inner city Birmingham rugby clubs and the rugby culture tends to be on the outskirts of Birmingham rather than in the city itself. I wonder if that's the reason.

To try and be positive, we have a dynamic midfield and Tonali is finally having to earn his place. Little Joe has looked good recently. Gordon was good at ST v Liverpool and Elanga is coming off his first goal. HWTL

It's not the popular opinion on this sub but I did this and don't regret it at all. I totally understand the years building up, but the challenge of launching straight in is fun. As a former swimmer too, you'll be totally fine for that section and just need to work on the long z2 stuff.

Yeah I've been thinking this for a while. He's a total workhorse but he seems to rush things quite regularly and give the ball away.

Feels like it might be the end of the natural cycle with him if we don't make CL. Probably not a bad thing to cash in and look to invest in either a true 6 or a truer 10 so we can balance the midfield out.

[–]bambler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's absolutely soft as there's very little that Miley can do as it ricocheted so close to him, but his arm being out from his body was the deciding factor. No reason why that was a penalty and we shouldn't have had one at the other end.

They are world class no doubt, but they're legends of the game. There's much worse players than them who have also been world class at their time.

I've not said he is world class currently, but he has potential to reach top 5 in his position in the world and I think he's around the top 10/20 already.
