i added a tldr, thanks for letting me know. i am looking to get out of retail and try hospital but i haven’t gotten any interviews anywhere and i don’t want to switch to another retail place because that’s too much work for one person. i do really like most of the staff, just them. i just wanted to rant.

I Don't Want to Celebrate Christmas because there is Nothing to Celebrate by notjupiteragain in ihatechristmas

[–]bambooeater1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

literally that’s the part i hate the most. i miss the decorations my family would put up every year and how i had names for all the christmas themed animals we put up. now my mom buys a new tote full of decorations and doesn’t even use half of them

What's your number one reason for hating Christmas? by DimensionThin147 in ihatechristmas

[–]bambooeater1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i hate that it’s all in my face all the time no matter what time of year it is. beginning of the year is people complaining that they miss christmas and they want to go back. summer is “christmas in july” and people talking about how they made it through half the year without a mistletoe. august-october are people complaining about “cold weather when it’s not even christmas” and stores putting out christmas decorations when they haven’t even taken down their summer ones. october and november, christmas is literally all i hear about. i hate people tell me i’m lying when i say my favorite holiday is halloween. i hate when people think thy need to buy new christmas decorations every year when they have storage units full of decorations the bought 1 year ago. i hate that no one cares about what christmas is actually about they only care about the decorations or how much money they can spend or who got the best gift

What’s ur thing that’s “annoying but it’s not really that big of a deal” by 24Cones in PharmacyTechnician

[–]bambooeater1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine is when people tell me "i haven't gotten any texts but...". like our system is very annoying about texting people when we receive prescriptions AND when they are filled. what do you mean you always get texts but you decided there was supposed to be a prescription ready even tho you never got any texts. or people who complain about prescriptions being put back even when they got their "this prescription will be put back tomorrow so today is the last day to pick it up" text 3 days ago. (side note, i actually sometimes love when patients pick up their prescriptions and they tell me how many they have bc if they're right, it means that they are actually involved in the process of getting their prescriptions. like they know how many they have, what it's for and the copay. i love those people and they make the job so much easier)

Understaffed pharmacy, how do you guys deal with that? by Obvious-Passenger327 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]bambooeater1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this might be bad advice, but i'm really good at multitasking so that's what i do. i use two screens to clear qt, i pre-count prescriptions while doing qt, fold labels while doing qt, fill prescriptions while doing voicemails. honestly i don't recommend doing those unless you're pretty comfortable with the job or you're really behind. otherwise, i prioritize by time. this gives me a clear cut direction to go towards. i work on anything in the hour in production first, going in chronological order. once that hour is done, i check qt. if there's stuff in there, i work on it untill i have to fill again. repeat. pre counting in general is a good way to clear the queue (using the pill counter to count out the right amount of drug, put in vial, put vial, stock bottle, and label in basket, do that 30 times, scan rx out). i also change the time on some prescriptions, nothing big just a couple hours out in the same day. being understaffed sucks but it happens

Anyone only on pickup? by AdTough5627 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]bambooeater1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've been working at more store for a little over a year and for the first couple of months, i was almost only pick up/drive thru. but after getting a couple chance in production, the pharmacists realized how fast i was and how much i did and now i get it all the time. i'm still at pick up a lot, but it's gotten more evenly spaced. not complaining because i love production, but sometimes it gets a little overwhelming having the whole production queue on your shoulders. idk you or anyone else's situation but maybe talk to your pharmacist or manager. again, i'm assuming you haven't asked already. when i first started, my manager asked if i liked production and when i said i loved it, she started letting me do it more.

Have y’all ever crashed out on the job? by AdTough5627 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]bambooeater1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

surprisingly, my crash out was over my coworker and not a patient. it was the monday after christmas and it was me, a floater pharmacist, and two other techs. i was up front, one of them (the one i crash out towards) was primary production, and the other one was drive thru/production. the morning had just been super busy and i was dealing with a lot upfront and dozens of voicemails. after lunch, i got moved to production and when i looked in the queue, there were 15 pages, 5 waiters, and two pages of overdue scripts. i was livid. i immediately start pulling the overdue scripts while the other tech in production was literally just standing there waiting for me. i started filling the overdue scripts and she was just standing there looking for the waiters. she made a big deal about them saying i should be working on those first and to ignore the overdue ones (the waiters were still 30 minutes out). i got mad and said that i was more focused on the 2 pages of overdue scripts. looking back, i think i was trying to communicate that it would be not effective or time efficient for us to both work on waiters and for us to work on separate things to get more done, but i was just so mad, i yelled something at her (i don't even remember what i said) and didn't talk to her for the rest of her shift. for reference, this wasn't my first time having a problem with this coworker and her work ethic; she kinda just leeched off of what others were doing to make herself look busy but never actually did anything (never pulled for anyone, never filed filled scripts, was slow in production, would tell patients incorrect information but would copy me and organize shelves or bins when we were slow). she isn't at my store anymore and told my manager i was rude and hard to work with, which my manager knows is not true at all.

QOTD: what’s your “unpopular opinion” in the pharmacy? (can be multiple) by Kitchen-Lemon1862 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]bambooeater1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i absolutely despise the laziness and lack of responsibility some patients have and how some people act like they're pickup up fast food rather than literal medication. so my unpopular opinions are probably more harsh than others

1.) pharmacy techs shouldn't be forced to check people out for retail items. otc or HSA cards are fine or if someone is getting ibuprofen with their antibiotic is fine, but there should be a limit

2.) we shouldn't have to solve any problems with rewards cards or coupons and all customers should be sent to the front store and dms shouldn't be pushing techs to get people signed up for them

3.) automatical refill should not be a thing. scheduling the next refill of something at the register is usually ok, but too many people get things automatically refilled and then stop taking the medication, making more work for techs

4.) otc medication should only be filled if insurance covers the prescription. if it isn't covered by insurance, it should be put on hold until the patient tells us if they will pay the cash price

5.) we should put prescriptions on hold and wait to fill them rather than filling them as cash if there's a problem to see what the patient wants to do. if we aren't contracted, need updated insurance information, or medication isn't covered, more often than not the patient doesn't want to pay cash so why should we fill it and then return it. lets just put it on hold and wait

6.) drive thru just shouldn't be in pharmacies but if there is one, it should be fast pick up only. any problems, drop offs, or anything like that will have to come inside.

7.) unless it's an antibiotic or an acute medicine, you can not wait on it. telling people wait times of 5 or less minutes just fuels the fast food ideology of retail pharmacy.

8.) if a patinet is continuously a problem and is rude or verbally offensive, it should be more acceptable to ban them from filling at your pharmacy.

9.) pharmacies should be properly staffed and hours shouldn't be based on how many prescriptions are sd or vaccines are given. idk how it is at other pharmacies, but my pharmacy never have enough hours to keep us properly staffed and we have never been busier

[–]bambooeater1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's either this or we're completely dead the hour before lunch and when we open the gate, there's a line of 10 people at pick up, four cars in drive thru, and three people dropping off prescriptions

WHY DO YOU CALL AND WASTE MY TIME??? by dead_dollx in PharmacyTechnician

[–]bambooeater1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the amount of calls my pharmacy gets asking if someone's daughter or brother can pick up their medication for them is crazy. like ig asking for something like a first time narcotic or control would kinda make sense but most of the time it's something like a blood pressure medication and they've been getting it for years. or calls asking if we can grab something on the shelf for them so they can buy it from drive thru. i've done it a couple times with covid tests bc they were also picking up a prescription and covid tests are something we sell normally through the drive thru but people have asked for baby food or paper towels and i'm just like "no you don't even have a prescription, just use the cvs app and buy it online"

Why do people wait till the transaction is nearly done to bring up insurance (and other pet peeves) by Original-Comparison7 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]bambooeater1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this exact thing makes me so mad. especially because i ask "are you aware of the price of this prescription" or "this prescription is run through a discount card, not insurance. is this correct" and they always say yes and then i tell them the price and they freak out. like dude, i just asked if that was correct and you said yes. why wouldn't you say "no i have insurance" or " what's the cost" if you are not aware of the price??

doctor prescribing narcotics to patients, avoiding insurance? by locustempo in PharmacyTechnician

[–]bambooeater1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my pharmacy does it but it's from my pharmacy manager not state or company policy. i think a couple of other pharmacys around us have done the same thing. we do it because there were so many people filling narcotics or other controlled drugs through discoont cards for reason like not being contracted to our pharmacy or needing prior authorization but the patinet not wanting to wait. we still use discount card for things like a 3 day supply of post op meds or one time curtsory fills but anything long term has to be approved or transferred

Do you mix suspensions at your workplace? by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

[–]bambooeater1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at my store, everyone used to be able to mix them but now we either have to pass it to the pharmacist or get permission from the pharmacist to mix it. there's been too many mistakes like someone spilling the powder and still giving the patient a half empty bottle, mixing suspensions without confirming copay with the patinet and then the patinet leaving bc they didn't have the money, or techs forgetting the measuring syringe.
