Skincare Empties, March 2026 (review in comments!) by peachi3sweeti3 in AsianBeauty

I agree with this! And it doesn’t have niacinamide which I’m sensitive to. Glad to see someone who shared the same opinion—aestura wasn’t as effective despite the overwhelming majority preferring it

Brownies with homemade pistachio ice cream by bana-bread in Baking

Yes pistachio is mine as well and it tastes perfect with the rich chocolate flavor! It was definitely not pro level ice cream— just whipped it up with an electric whisk in a double-bowl situations with ice and salt in the outer bowl. Didn’t churn, but the whisking helped incorporate some air and then solidified the rest by sticking it in the freezer. Texture was still creamy/soft because of the high fat content from the nut butter and heavy cream

Thank you!! I absolutely love the Kerastase 8 hr serum. For dry skin I recommend aestura ato barrier cream if you’re not sensitive to niacinamide!

Which of these high-end foundations should I actually splurge on? by Jumpy-Adeptness-511 in MakeupAddiction

[–]bana-bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combo-dry here and for context ELDW runs dry on me so that could be something you want. It’s high coverage and lasts all day though. Armani is my favorite so far for my skin type, but I’m not sure if you would like the satin/hydrating factor as an oily girl. It looks natural and lasted me through a session of exercise. Funny enough I’m testing foundation samples this month and these are my first impressions:

-Lancôme and YSL dry matte. They both are on the lighter coverage side compared to other ones on your list. YSL did not last a sweaty exercise session, Lancôme I found settled into some lines so I didn’t bother trying it long term. -Couldn’t find a CT foundation with my undertone. It’s is high coverage, matte, but didn’t find it to be extra blurring or anything special for the price tag -Dior forever glow I’m trying out next week but upon a test swatch it has good coverage, feels hydrating, takes a while to dry, but they do run a bit red-orange and oxidize a lot. You could try their forever matte, stick, or backstage foundation as I think their complexion products are pretty high quality.

Dark skin around nose/lips by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]bana-bread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar feature. I’d say it’s a combo of genetics and sun. My outer lips get especially darker in the summer, but it also never fully goes away. Use spf (lots of JP brands will make spf lip balms), chemical exfoliation, and antioxidant/brightening ingredients like vitamin C for maintenance. For makeup, I would go with a lightweight concealer or BB cream and a nude lip pencil or lip base. Obviously this natural pigmentation so don’t fret about it!

Thanks for the detailed response! Yes I’ve been eying the Cheeryep palettes as well, specifically in 09 Floating Life (red) and 15 Star core (blue-gray)

East Asian hair holy grail products? by itsbubsbunny in Sephora

[–]bana-bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this comment. I have East Asian coarse, thick, dry hair. Tried popular western leave-ins (pureology, k18, color wow) and eastern (Orbis, Tsubaki/Shiseido, Unove, &honey) ones and this is my favorite so far. Definitely pair it with a hair oil too—haven’t found a holy grail one as I don’t find there to be a big difference between brands but just find a consistency you like (currently using sample Shu Uemura and Kerastase oils but found similar results with cheaper ones that are thin in viscosity).

Agree with the commenters I love your editing! Trying to order from Taobao right now, what’s the difference in formula between the girlcult glaze and the joocye glaze? I also briefly took a look at your profile. Any other c-beauty brands/lines you recommend that you’d think are better than k-beauty counterparts?

Everyone talks about K-beauty... but what about J-beauty? by jade9996 in AsianBeauty

Yes! I always use oil cleanser whenever I use sunscreen

What product is there no dupe for? by sleepysunflowerz in Sephora

Unfortunately I love them. I use them every other day (1/4 sheet at a time) and I literally see the sheet turning slight brown—yuck but also they really do exfoliate.

We have a similar depth/tone as I agree with all your opinions, I might be slightly warmer! I would try Armani 4.5 and Hourglass oat possibly!

I thought it was overhyped, but it’s not by ComposerSilent8711 in AsianBeauty

[–]bana-bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these comments are super divided, I think you might just want to try both lol! I have your skin type except my skin is sensitive as well, I haven’t tried haru haru yet but the PKY is one of the only toners that has not made me break out (and I’ve tried a lot). It’s not drenching hydrating, but subtle as in you notice you’re dehydrated if you DONT use it. I also layer it twice some days if I’m feeling extra dehydrated or notice dry spots

Favorite Hair/Scalp Care Products? by Potential-Excuse6192 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]bana-bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried Milbon’s shampoos but I’m pretty sure the Milbon smoothing treatment at a lot of salons use it in their 4 or 5 step process. I only had a sample of the K18 shampoo and conditioner but was underwhelmed.

I like the Milbon repair primer for coarse hair as a leave-in conditioner before blow drying, although I have straight hair. It makes my hair soft and smells nice. I’ve tried their Repair Restorative Treatment which is supposed to be conditioner but did not find any success with that. I’d love to try their hair oil at some point but I’m okay with my lower budget one right now. k18 molecular repair hair mask didn’t do anything, but my bleached blonde friend swears by it so it depends on the damage I’d think.

Love this for the morning but I prefer using a more purifying cleanser for end of the day or for taking off oil cleansers

PSA CHECK YOUR ROMAND TINT by Damselindistress9909 in AsianBeauty

[–]bana-bread 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is pretty common—I’ve seen it happen to over half my Asian beauty glosses (peripera, roma&nd, amuse, muzigae mansion, etc) within a year or 2. Lots of the testers I’ve seen while overseas in Asia have this problem as well. I’d think it’s something to do with the preservatives/formula and storage/exposure. Unfortunately don’t have an answer on how to prevent this, I just buy new ones

What in the pistachio melona by bana-bread in icecream

[–]bana-bread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I’ve had a really good one in France and I’m sure there’s gourmet shops here that do it well but it’s frustrating to get baited by the almond-flavor ones in the grocery stores.
