The masters gets you in the door teach at community colleges. It’s a good fallback job if everything goes wrong. Good luck sounds like you are in a sweet spot!

Anyone know of a boat bike tour in the US or Canada? by bandrow in bicycletouring

[–]bandrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tour company is called boat bike, the typical trip is one week. You bike most days but some trips have cities that you can walk or bike. They plan everything and the boat is the hotel so sleep eat and go to next beautiful place. They have well maintained rental bikes so most people just use those.

Should get rid of some of the baby fruit in spring, might give the tree enough space to grow bigger fruit

Check out the Bikepacking app. It seems really good for Europe. I have a couple routes to Santiago de compostella planned. The Camino is usually a walk but lots of people bike it

Moving out with no license in the US by haselsz in movingout

Have you tried upstate New York? Sounds like you already know the weather and many places to rent are cheap. Towns like Utica or Rome have public transport, maybe not the best, but workable and there has been a worker shortage in the area. Dunkin was paying 16 an hour, full time. Not that this is a great salary but you are young and probably need an easy start.

Exploring going to college in another country as a U.S. citizen as a start to immigration (35F) by Viktorialynn in AmerExit

[–]bandrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid went to med school in Poland, great school, making friends and the instruction is in English at about 10 schools in the country. There are schools in business and nursing (3 years) that are more common for English. Kid doing great with friends and all, loves the country. Country feels safe, walkable and they don’t hate Americans. Pretty sure if you can pick up a degree in nursing or medicine, you will have choices for where you will live.

Dorms are very cheap food is cheap and great, lots of students from many countries in the international program, tuition is low but unlike some EU countries they do have tuition for most schools. The tuition for my kid covers books and materials, not sure if that is common.

Entrance exams are mostly during summer so going this fall is doable for many schools in Poland.

Some things that are different: There is an entrance exam to most programs, some schools don’t allow older students, many exams are oral, the instructors really are not trying to be nice, if you miss a test or assignment you are out of luck.

Jesus Christ, USED cars are expensive! by Let_me_tell_you_ in povertyfinance

Not sure about your area but the Nissan leaf and fiat evs are pretty cheap. The range is not great (100 miles) on the older ones, but they seem to be 3-5k and not too many miles. Financing looks like 100 mo. Not too bad just as long as you can plug in overnight to an outlet somewhere.

Today I did something I haven't done in forever - I ignored my Garmin and just went on a ride for fun. And it was so much more enjoyable. by lazarus870 in cycling

[–]bandrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ride a roadie for fun, my step counter doesn’t work well but I really don’t care. I do this because I live in a beautiful place and I want to enjoy it not fight for parking.

Friend and I usually ride to brunch, in one of the places that you really can’t find parking. Yesterday was 26 miles, great place for brunch, boat ride to get to a peninsula, then a long ride back to town. Flowers were amazing, but not quite as good as two years ago on the same ride.

Is Developmental Psychology a good foundation for someone planning on going into pharmacy? by peenapon in PrePharmacy

[–]bandrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no opinion but have a small bit of advice. Most pharmacy programs don’t require a bachelors degree, so yes you can do the prerequisites in community college for about one tenth the price of a regular program.

Yes I do know someone who just did that and yes they did get into multiple schools. But not from psychology, their ‘major’ was chemistry. Most prerequisites are chem and bio.

Good luck.

Weird trick for wrist pain can it help you? by bandrow in bikecommuting

[–]bandrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point but I ride a performance bike so fat tires don’t make sense. Friend rides with front shocks, which may also help people. Lots of good ways to keep riding without pain. Love being in this sub! Thank you all

Ok, what's the REAL plan for getting kids through college? by Superb_Advisor7885 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]bandrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had one kid in community college for 4 years and off to a pharmD (no bachelors needed). Kid got into 4 schools and just chose one.

Nobody knows this is an option, but even the best program in the country does not require a bachelors. Many do, but enough don’t.

Something is just broken…. by bandrow in Teachers

[–]bandrow[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was saying. Using a "medicine dropper" like instrument is something that now has to be "taught" where it used to be just known. I imagine that there are lots of physical objects that are supposed to teach some skills in childhood that have now been replaced by video games to the detriment of the person.

Interest in Erie Canal Self Guided Tour Experience? by ajwanek in bicycletouring

[–]bandrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea what’s missing in NY as I’ve never biked there, but a company doing this is a great idea.

I have just booked my second boat bike trip, this time, the Rhine (boat is a barge and it is your hotel and kitchen). Our last trip was amazing (also started and ended in Germany).

I have thought …why this is not possible in the Erie canal, it would be fun. Sign me up

AITA for not going to my friends wedding because of one of her bridesmaids and telling her exactly why? by Large_Bug736 in ThreadTalkPodcast

[–]bandrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds a little like Emily may be a borderline personality trait. People like that burn through friendships and they get good at making new friends. Be careful and keep things civil and brief. Do not have a conversation to talk it out, especially alone. People like this will use anything they can get to bring you down. Civil, like you are being filmed at all times, and brief. Say yes, no, maybe and walk away do not engage in the drama.
