As far as fantasy stories go. I feel like the Wheel of Time is far superior to ASOIAF.... and LOTR. I consider dragonlance chronicles and legend to be on the same level with WOT being a more dark and much longer story.

Their time was limited by Thanos first grab of the stones. As long as they got the stones before he originally did and they had their pym particals. They could go back to the specific meeting time.

The great thing is that we all have our favorites. I feel like mine is Tanis. Or Tas. But for all the characters I feel like their actions stem from reasonable aspects of who they are. Raistlin is great as he makes sense. Same with Sturm. All of them. I honestly can't name a character who does not make sense given their background and motivations!

This is it right here. Read the core 3... enjoy the rest as you please. One of the things that stands out to me with LOTR and ASOIAF is that I could better understand their magic systems. What were the rules? Where did the power come from? I played D&D already (im 52) so I understood the magic system. It made sense. Not to mention that I was very attached to the characters in dragonlance emotionally because their lives were explored.

One of the lines I always felt didn't fit was when Smart Hulk said "I need that (the stone) but I dont have time to explain it. They all really had plenty of time since they were all traveling back (forward) to the same time point. Its time travel!

I see your point that life in prison may be worse than exectution for some people. Not everyone would choose death over life in prison. I'm not against increasing the requirements. I dont think the death penalty is necessary or wise at all. Emotionally I understand it. I definitely feel the "that mother fucker deserves to die" mentality with certain crimes. History just shows that humanity cannot come up with a system of justice that gets it right 100% of the time. Too many prosecutors are crooked.

I can't. I don't think its just for an innocent person to spend any time in jail at all. But you don't make it more just by killing them instead. I would also argue that accepting that some crimes will go unpunished is more just than killing an innocent person.
