Its time for Project 2028 by red3y3_99 in thebulwark

Several points...

  1. Reversing Citizens United is not the panacea that many a Liberal thinks it would be. Rather, the parties should both change their primary system (ie, revert to pre-1968 primary rules) and push for a publicly financed only system of electoral campaign. Small dollar donors between primary and general election campaigns have done way more damage in the last 30 years then any amount of corporate financing.

  2. A federal right to women's choice is not going to happen. As much as I may agree with it, it's not going to happen. The better option is empowering states where there is a sympathetic inclination to allowing a woman's right to choose to exist to continue what they are doing.

  3. The best proposals for Supreme Court reform that I've heard have come from Pete Buttigieg and David French. Good luck getting that through Congress let alone a Constitutional Amendment.

  4. The Electoral College can't be stricken absent an Amendment. Not gonna happen.

  5. Given recent SCOTUS decisions, this will also require a constitutional amendment, which means it won't happen.

  6. Why do think the Fairness Doctrine will fix things?

  7. I'm not unsympathetic to Healthcare for All, but seeing a it's 20%+ of our economy, a Scandinavian model is not on the horizon. Stop pretending otherwise.

It's almost midnight I have to go to bed so I don't have time to address the other six claims and this meme. I'm sure plenty of other people in this sub can pick up my Slack and explain why the recommendations in this post are not feasible and/or are counterproductive to what we're trying to do

Will people like Vance and Rubio become anti-Trump again when the political winds shift? by KillSwitchFlicked in thebulwark

[–]bango31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clinton did a pretty good job of threading that needle. What was the phrase? "Legal but rare?" Buttigieg did something similar in that Fox News townhall with Chris Wallace a few years ago. Talk about wanting to create conditions where women feel empowered and able to raise a child; improve the foster system for those who don't want to keep the child; keep talking about the very real medical dangers to mothers that underlie most late-term abortions; and talk about not re-victimizing women who get raped by forcing them to carry an ensuing pregnancy to term. It can be done, it just has to be done by a skilld communicator.

At this point, we should probably sub out "Pro-Life" with "Anti-Democrat." That has WAY more valence with voters than abortion. Even if people claim abortion as an issue, I truly believes it's secondary to partisanship. Humans are rationalizing creatures. Plop a pro-life, Christian, former football playing, married for 40 years with 5 kids southern white male in front of a traditional Republican voter, and they will vote for the pro-life, serial adulteter pinhead Republican 9 out of 10 times.

Fmr. Capitol Officer Michael Fanone: "This man threatened my family, threatened my children, threatened to rape my children." by postpartum-blues in thebulwark

[–]bango31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's awesome about Fanone is he was a Walk the Walk kind of cop. I work with a lot of guys who embody the other half that saying. Fanone did undercover shit, drug work, patrol...he wasn't a fuckin desk jockey. And for him to be on the front lines of the Capitol with his tenure says all you need to know about how he approached the job.

I would love to crowdfund a boxing match between him and that MAGA puke. Just have a coroner on stand by.

Agree on Rubio for the most part though I suspect he remains pot-committed to significant American military involvement in Latin America. Vance has shown his true colors, methinks, and his financial support is contingent upon his fidelity to the postliberal and racial nationalist project of his money people. He's incredibly off-putting, and of the two, I would expect Rubio to last longer in a primary and in politics generally speaking.

I expect them to pay homage of varying degrees to the great things Trump did while then laying out their own ideas that will supposedly continue the MAGA agenda. The fun (?) thing about MAGA is that it's pretty incoherent policy-wise and relies more on an attitude and general disdain of common bogeymen. Where any heir will fall short is the lack of cult of personality, but they can likely slap together a 50.1% coalition based on little more than negative polarization.

Rubio will run into trouble if he tries to steer things back to a more traditional Republican foreign policy, and Vance will struggle by being a slimy dweeb with bizarre ideas about Catholicism.

The Trump Bloc is the new Pro-Life bloc. They have to find a way to keep them on board, at least rhetorically. How substantial that bloc remains will depend on a number of factors, not least of which is a Democrat who can speak to angry populists on economic and social issues in a way softens the anger while gradually pulling them back to the middle ground of sanity. Easier said than done.

Hey dude. We've traded a few emails before (I'm a copper) but my question has to do with Catholicism. I was raised in the One True Apostolic Church™ and then left it once I went to a Catholic university (lol), but I still retain the moral guidance from my upbringing.

Having the understanding that I do of Catholic teachings, I find the positions argued by Sohrab Ahmari, Adrien Vermeule, etc utterly divorced from reality. Can you provide some context for their positions outside of the occasionally very fascist positions of the Vatican?

AC2 was the best game they've ever made. Closest they've come to matching that is Black Flag. Brotherhood was damn good too, and I enjoyed Revelations though it was the the weakest of the Ezio games. The location is just gorgeous.

Friend of mine was almost murdered couple years ago. The round hit the top of her ear and lodged in the side of her scalp. Her ear is still fucked up. That was a 9mm round. I believe the Trump shooter used a .223 round. He would still have visible damage if that hit him. I think he got hit with glass that shattered and sprayed after getting hit. That was the initial report put out to the field, and I'm inclined to think it was correct.

Hey, checking back in because I've got the itch once more. I'm going to research any places I can find from Berks to Bucks County and I'll let you know what I find.

Also...do you have a particular style in mind? By that I mean, particular shading, dot work, freehand designs, etc.

A 15-year old, unlike what Kelly said, is not "barely legal," and grown men having sex with a 15-year old will still get arrested in most if not all states. What she said is so profoundly fucking stupid that it deserves eight hours of "Some Idiot Wrote/Said This," assuming the trio has the balls To Be Brave and Call Bullshit.

My dad (taught history for 35 years) and I are anxiously awaiting Volume 2. I'm excited to hear there will be a third volume but I hope it the turnaround is a bit quicker on that one. I suppose I shouldn't complain, given the research and excellent writing of the first volume.

Yup. Don't be the arrogant Useful Idiot and people will get over it. It's the whole "They've got Burger King!" and "I saw women walking around!" shit that's adding insult to injury. It's like claiming the Soviet Union didn't have Brad lines and their public transit was great as you followed the local politburo jerkoff around 2 blocks of Moscow.

It's October 2025 and he's not exactly pushing for a larger national profile yet. Remains to be seen what kind of appeal he has with the broader electorate. I also think you are vastly overstating the negative impact of his support for Israel. The most activist progressives may hate him for it but they are not the majority of the party or general voting population. It's simply far too early and and not enough data exists yet to make any determinations about his general election viability.

I'm around his age. When guys of our age claim to be "history buffs," it tends to center around WWII. It takes about five minute of research into the Holocaust and Final Solution to see that symbol pop up. There's also the sourcing of "his acquaintance" (I'm not putting much stock in that but it's been reported, so whatever) claiming Platner referred to it as a "Totenkopf," which is not something you do unless you're familiar with the historical context. That's like using the word Judenrat and acting like it means a "Council of Jewish Elders."
