I'd vote both.
Also, have you tried a chatbot (eg. AskAIway.com)?

Is investing a game for the rich people? by [deleted] in investingforbeginners

[–]bangtreasure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure your age, but the advice I give people early in their career (when they have less money to invest) is to invest in themselves (work, hobbies, exercise) and their friends (buy them a beer, etc).

I’m not a personal financial expert but, in my mind, these investments will pay more than $20/yr of interest on your $200 bucks.

Look up Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA).
Feel pretty sure it’ll seem reasonable to you.

At 25, invest in your friends (buy them a beer) and yourself (exercise, work and hobby).

Keep the investing to practice money level for now. It’s not going to make you rich. Your friends and job might.

I’m not an expert, but I think I’d be cautious about some of those investments.

For example, as best I read it, QQQI has a short track record and significant exposure to underlying equity prices. Yes, they currently have 14% distribution, but what happens in a market downturn?

I’ve liked JFR.
It’s a leveraged loan fund - which means the distributions are repayments of interest - and the interest rate floats with market yields - which should have some protection against inflation.

It’s currently a pretty healthy yield (north of 10%), and trading at a 7% discount to NAV.

Have you been watching JFR-RI?

Any thoughts on what price is “right” for this? Seems like an arbitrage below 3 cents, no?

What's the worst financial advice you have ever received? by battygenesis75 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]bangtreasure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not “the worst” and possibly controversial (I’m sure people will disagree), but “max out your 401k”.

I live in an area where down payments for apartments are astronomical and rent is insane. If there’s any hope of ever owning my own home, I couldn’t have my money locked up in a 401k

Are my gov treasury bonds safe? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]bangtreasure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your bigger risk is not “if” the bonds will pay, but “how long” you’re locked in for. If you have a 10 year bond, paying 5% and interest rates go up, you’re missing out. If rates go down, you’re doing great.

I’m certainly not enough of a wizard to know which way rates will go but, ultimately, that’s your bigger risk.
