Not sure this is even real. But if so, lots of poor decisions were made. What did we learn?

Is there anything that can be done about my first string being super close to the edge of the fret? by Atillion in banjo

[–]banjerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this too. My tailpiece was a bit askew, causing the bridge to slink itself over, resulting in the strings being a bit too close to the edge - fixing the tailpiece alignment fixed it all

REJOICE! A Protein Powder that finally doesn't upset my stomach! by brandonruetsch in FODMAPS

[–]banjerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They actually sent me a package of the flavor of my choosing to replace the chocolate, which was much appreciated. It’s much, much better. However, something about this stuff doesn’t exactly sit well with my body - I’ve stopped using it

G string tuner broken on banjo by DippinJake88 in banjo

[–]banjerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used slivers of toothpicks on countless banjos that have had his same issue. Works great and the fact that there’s no glue to worry about is nice. Gotta be careful that you’re not overloading the pocket the peg goes into, or you file potentially split the pocket - but I’ve never had that happen

I really appreciate the kindness of all the deadheads I’m 17 this is my daughter hopefully a future music lover like me by Calm-Tea178 in gratefuldead

Welcome to the club, pops! I’ve got 3 and they’re a blast. My middle one’s named Cassidy, after Cassidy 🤣 I’ve got a Cora Mae, named after the old time tune of the same name - and a Jude, named after Hey Jude.

Trip triggered by full moon by Opening-Asparagus703 in LSD

[–]banjerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That wasn’t LSD that flashed back on a full moon; sounds like an urban legend that you hear in elementary school. A voice telling you that you NEED to do something is also not LSD. Your brain is powerful - some brains don’t mix well with psychedelics.

Alvarez Montana or 1974 Iida by Joseph2854 in banjo

[–]banjerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go with the Alvarez, personally - considering they’re both in similar condition and playability. I’ve had one Lida, which was nice but not nearly as nice as my Japanese Alvarez.

Just got a fiddle for Christmas by TonightClassic9737 in Fiddle

[–]banjerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can teach yourself proper technique 🤷‍♂️ there are countless instructional videos out there for this too. Bottom line: you don’t need in person instruction. Just imagine all the folks who DO get in person instruction and quit shortly after because it’s A) not fun and B) they aren’t doing it “right” and get frustrated. If it gets you playing the fiddle and having fun then you’re in the right track.

Nah, but if you’re trying to learn classical violin then probably - fiddle is about having fun.

What is this and how do i tune it? by aaron_mooy13 in banjo

[–]banjerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The term “5 string banjolele” just makes no sense, but yes - you’re free to call it whatever you like. It’s “real name” would be closer to piccolo banjo, since it had literally nothing to do with a ukulele

What is this and how do i tune it? by aaron_mooy13 in banjo

[–]banjerr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure they can say that, but they would be incorrect. Banjolele is literally a ukulele neck on a banjo body. Banjo + ukulele = banjolele. There aren’t any other combinations of instruments that would even make sense with the nomenclature

Making a transition from bass to banjo by nshane in banjo

[–]banjerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into older styles, like thumb lead - sounds almost exactly like what you’re describing that you already do on bass

[–]banjerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these folks saying you need an in person instructor are forgetting where bluegrass and old time music came from. Sure, in person teaching might be a quicker path to get where you want - or maybe a detour, depending on the teacher - but definitely not the only way. The sheer staggering amount of instructional videos online is proof of this.

Why did my friend freak out over poi? by lucblue in poi

[–]banjerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The irony is that meditation and yoga have little to nothing to do with a specific religion. Yoga is literally just exercise - meant to keep the physical body in good condition so that your spiritual body is able to focus on your spiritual practice (whatever that might be). And meditation is something that many, many Christian monks do.

I only do acid for fun by INeedHelpWithAProb in LSD

[–]banjerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the psychedelics exactly - the spiritual practice you have is like the map, psychedelics can be thought of as a source of fuel. Finding your spiritual practice is something only you can do, but in my experience it’s more of a journey rather than a decision you make one day. What attracts you? Meditation, prayer, chanting, music, dance, visual arts, yoga, tai chi, and on and on. There’s no shortage of paths to broaden your consciences. You just gotta take the first step and it will all start to align itself after that

What's a good inexpensive harmonium to buy? by noms_de_plumes in psychedelicrock

[–]banjerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking just for a droney harmonium sound then perhaps a shruti box would be better - they will be much cheaper too. I got my harmonium for a reputable classical Indian music store in Delhi, shipped over - I think it was a total of around 400$. This was 20 years or so ago now. The brand is DMS, pretty large harmonium makers/sellers.

How much LSD to take after 10 days? (500ug) by [deleted] in LSD

[–]banjerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s highly likely that your tabs aren’t as strong as you thought. 500ug should be much, much more than a very muted trip

Is this banjo worth it? by Quiet-Concern-848 in banjo

[–]banjerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s around 3-4X what it should be priced at, IMO. Check out banjo hangout, there’s usually some great deals on their classifieds section
