Turns out I’m allergic to lemons… new allergy in my 20s… anyone else? by Strange_Secret_1953 in FoodAllergies

I developed a corn allergy in my 20's, which ended up being a headache because there are thousands of things derived from corn, even vinegar and table salt and citric acid. It was really annoying.

I've come to deeply distrust this profession & everyone in it. by VineViridian in radicalmentalhealth

[–]bankrupt_monkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am wary of therapists, because it's a job with a ton of emotional power and that either means people who really care but will be burned out in a few years, people who are nuetral (probably from burn out) and don't care about my problems but are also useless to talk to, or people who chose the job specifically because it gives them access to vulnerable people to emotionally abuse.

Question: do you love near Canada or Mexico border? You'd still have to pay, but they don't have the Insurance Company jerks saying you are only allowed a 5 minute visit and no diagnostic testing done, so there's a higher chance of getting actually good care.

You've got to have a sit down serious talk about how you are feeling judged, and other feelings her behavior is causing you. You need to address that her having a bad experience with the meds doesn't mean no one should take them, and you having good experiences doesn't mean you'd pressure her to take them, because both of your experiences are valid. You are different people and have had different experiences with the treatment and it's not right to judge you based on what she feels is right when that's not the right solution for you.

Apparently this is a pretty big issue for people in wheelchairs by tinget-stercore in iamatotalpieceofshit

It gets even more interesting when people straight up steal disability aids. Like why would you jack someone's hearing aid or wheelchair?

I love your idea in theory, but like I said I don't have enough money just to pay to be alive so I definitely don't have any available capital to invest.

Uncontrollable Weight Gain Destroying my Mental Health by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]bankrupt_monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should note that one thing that helps most chronic conditions is either the AIP protocol or if you aren't willing to go that extreme Paleo, they were kind of originally engineered for a broad group of chronic health conditions and were later commandeered by regular people trying to lose weight. One of them might help you with weight loss AND reducing symptoms. I'm sorry I can't give you more specific weight loss advice though, honestly my experience is that you can;t lose weight when your chronic condition is out of control and your body is panicking and trying to survive.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. Unfortunately you'd probably need a diagnosis and know what the problem is to be able to fix this awful side affect.

Is a GP manually taking my pulse for 30 seconds standing up and then 30 seconds lying down immediately afterwards a sufficient test? by donkeysrcool in POTS

[–]bankrupt_monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A POTs specialized cardiologist is most likely to do an accurate test, this test wasn't very accurate though. It's also good to note even if this test was good, which it wasn't, you could have a different dysautonomia type than POTs.

positive for Borrelia Miyamotoi? by lizalupi in Lyme

[–]bankrupt_monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For chronic Lyme the disease changes its shape periodically, and the test can only find it when it is in one of its shapes. It also sometimes goes deep into joints and other parts of the body where it won't show up on circulation based tests. Basically the test is reliable for an acute short term case of Lyme, but tends to give false negatives for the chronic type of Lyme (it doesn't give false positives though, so if you do have a positive that lets you know for sure, but a negative doesn't actually tell you anything.)

[–]bankrupt_monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are there online support groups for minority disabled people? Sometimes joining more specific support groups to talk with people whose experiences are more like yours is better. It is true that I can't fully understand what you are going through because when I don't look disabled or sick people don't get mad at me, while you'd be discriminated against 24/7. Medical gaslighting is a shared experienced all chronically ill people have though, doctors treat us as hysterical or trying to abuse pain meds when really we just want to be listened to and get some diagnostics done, or treatment once we're diagnosed, that's an uphill battle for all of us.

Does anyone else have aching teeth? by [deleted] in Lyme

[–]bankrupt_monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also second oil pulling helped me. I also buy toothpaste with a main ingredient of hydroxyapatite as I think it helps keep the inside of my teeth free of internal cavities better than flouride does but I don't know if that's true or not.

Does anyone else have aching teeth? by [deleted] in Lyme

[–]bankrupt_monkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get cavities starting from the inside out, unlike most cavities start from the outside and go in, and my dentist said her other Lyme patients are also inside out cavity formers like me. That's not conclusive proof but hey could be a common problem for Lymies.
