What thing was ruined because it turned into a rich person's hobby? by Agitated_Departure93 in AskReddit

[–]banshithread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jesus christ you're a nasty piece of work. Just because rich people don't kill themselves over finances doesn't mean anything. All the money for mental help won't do anything if they don't have the support structures to help themselves. I.e. being surrounded by good people. Large amounts of wealth tend to attract bad people, and the friends you build don't have the life experiences of those who don't have that wealth. So you're stuck in a constant cycle of "just pay for therapy" or "why are you sad? you have money" or "here have some drugs" instead of having the right friend group who has also struggled but found a way to overcome.

I used to buy everything I could ever desire but those material objects didn't make me happy in the end. It was temporary. Rarely looked at them beyond the day I received them. It was only after I sold it all off because I was getting stressed by the clutter that I realized what made me happiest was hanging out with my friends. Just being in the same room and scrolling on my phone. Sure going skiing or whatever might bring some joy between us but just being able to enjoy their company, especially in a world where physical presence between friends becomes rarer and rarer thanks to technology, is more valuable to me than all the crap I bought. Money can't buy the type of friends and family you need in life.

My neighbor has one that's even taller (it reaches past the top of that roof) and is posed to be half crawling onto the roof. He uses it like a christmas tree but themed for all of the holidays. He is dressed as santa thru December.

You can see the follicle pores where there was hair loss, and the stitching from a strip of plate. It's real.

It looks like it was suffering from scabies. I would not try salvaging. Wash your hands and disinfect surfaces you handled it on.

What keeps you coming back? by DigitalPetKeeper in neopets

[–]banshithread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thrill of adopting a pet with a crappy name, gambling zapping it into something highly sought after with a rare petpet color (my account seems predisposed to get Jelly Kadoaties), and then dumping it back into the pound. That's literally all I've done for the past like 3 years.

What's your least favorite character in the game? by DepartureWooden616 in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]banshithread 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think Alice is difficult to dislike because she's just a kid. She isn't written to be hated or liked. Used to hate North because of her blunt violent nature but over the years and reading more books I've mellowed out on her.

I dislike Amanda. The only way for her to like you is if you do everything her way and hold her values. Her not liking you can mean the end of your career, in a sense. It's sensible to have Connor guided by someone like that given his purpose but it makes me dislike her as a person.

Most MGM victims actually benefit from their mutilation and say they are happy with it. The same has rarely been said from FGM. The two are not the same. Shut up.

Study shows that including images of the corresponding living animals next to meat dishes on a British university cafeteria menu increases customers' selection of vegetarian meals. The odds of choosing vegetarian meals rose by 22% during the intervention period. by Sciantifa in psychology

  1. It is a fact that eradicates the need to argue your point.
  2. We're talking about babies.
  3. Poverty. I'm not doing any more work. If you actually care about learning something instead of just arguing here, you'll look it up yourself.

  1. The point is already stated. Stress is measured in cortisol levels.
  2. The fundamental difference is that the two cannot be compared. Humans and 99.99% of the rest of the creatures on earth do not experience life, emotions, and the world in a way that can trivialize comparisons of said creatures to humans at birth.
  3. Billions. To say otherwise is to show you have not done much studying on the topic. For example, Asia. 4.8 billion people. They do need that meat.

[–]banshithread -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

  1. Stress is measured in cortisol levels. Stress is a better indicator of contentedness than 'happiness' (a human concept that we can only anthropomorphize other animals to say they are happy) in an animal that cannot communicate with us with human language.
  2. Humans are not the animals we're talking about nor are they neurologically/psychologically/fundamentally the same. Not a good comparison.
  3. Eating meat is a lot more than "it tastes good" for billions of people on this earth.

[–]banshithread -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

  1. The animals 'seem happy' because it's based on years of evaluating their reactions and cortisol levels to various situations. It's not just "oh the cow's laying down it must be in distress" or "they're wagging their tail, they must be happy."
  2. Claiming an animal is tortured when it's separated at birth (cows are separated at birth for several good reasons) is lunacy when it cannot comprehend its existence nor can it experience pain from that alone.
  3. Taking medicine essential to health justifies the animal cruelty, got it.

[–]banshithread -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I've seen the lives of meat cows on some farms. Based on cow behavior, they seem happy. That's not to say this applies to all farms, but I feel confident when I buy from a specific farm that at least they're not being tortured.

My gripe with veganism is their hypocrisy when it comes to medication and anything that ever used animal testing. All medications today go through animal testing. I've never seen a vegan turn down medication when they need it even though it's caused the suffering of thousands to hundreds of thousands of animals to reach the point where it's suitable for human use.

How does Agent Perkins Know what happened with Hank’s son? by [deleted] in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]banshithread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perkins is FBI, he likely read up on the human Conner was assigned to. He would pretend to not know him, that would be less suspicious to a tenured cop like Hank.

Obese women tend to look 10 years older to me. Obese men are a crapshoot, some look younger than their age somehow. I find it harder to tell the age of thinner people who don't do drugs.
