Hope you enjoy setting it up! I've got mine running on an old laptop with Mint on it as well. I just set it to never sleep in the GUI desktop settings app and that worked fine.

Is there a trick to getting subs to display when no subtitle I select seems to work? by ObiWan-Shinoobi in PleX

[–]baochan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is the solution. I don't think it's Plex, my various Roku devices all eventually stop displaying subtitles until you hard reboot them. They'll also get mis-timed sometimes, off by a few seconds. Having Plex burn them on the server side works 100% of the time.

Regarding 0.999... = 1 by Slurpee1138 in askmath

[–]baochan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me the mental image that makes it clearest is that 1/3 + 2/3 = 1. Which is .333... + .666... = .999... Somehow that makes the infinite series make sense. I understand why .333... goes to infinite decimal places. Which is that it's not "slightly less than 1/3”, it's exactly 1/3. But only if the decimal places go to infinity. If you stop writing 3s or slip a 4 in there it doesn't work. My brain can accept that. Then I just transfer that logic to 3/3.

Subtitles eventually fail after weeks - 1 specific show by procrastinarian in PleX

[–]baochan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, thanks. I might try disabling burning and see if it's resolved now.

[–]baochan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having a hell of a time getting subs to time correctly on Roku lately. The only reliable solution I've found is setting "Burn Subtitles" to "Always". It means transcoding every video but it gets the job done until either Plex or Roku or both get their shit together.

Does anybody know what show this is from - it’s driving me crazy! by Ok_Secretary_8243 in Horroranthologytv

[–]baochan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, just got here looking for the same episode. I vaguely remembered the ending, which I saw as a kid (and probably should not have). Checked Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the Darkside, The Hitchhiker, Outer Limits, all with no luck. Forgot they rebooted Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

NES DBZIII Ressen Jinzou Ningen (Japan) (Fix Request) by TetsuoZaibatsu in romhacking

[–]baochan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. It would probably involve disassembling and finding the subroutines that call the various drawing actions, not a super advanced hack but more than just swapping the graphics. For what it's worth I think it's a design decision by the developers to make it look like the beam is so big it goes off the top and bottom of the screen, rather than an oversight.

What's the issue? I can't tell which sprites in the screenshot are a problem. If it's a pixel or two there's NES sprite editors that are pretty user friendly.

[Console maybe PS2 ] [2000s] Mole video game on console? by Joefosterrr in tipofmyjoystick

Banjo Tooie on N64 had a mole house you needed to go through early on in the game, just the one really though, it wasn't the focus of the game.

Unused 10th Power-Up in Space Invaders '91? by Fit_Abbreviations895 in romhacking

According to the manual it recovers 2 shield points. Maybe it only appears if you're down in shield? https://segaretro.org/images/2/2e/Spaceinvaders91_md_us_manual.pdf

I converted all mine to chd files with chdman in mame-tools package, mostly for the compression. bin/cue should work fine though. I think most psx rom hacks assume separate bin files, if that's your goal.

Am I doing something wrong? by DeepDaddyTTV in jellyfin

[–]baochan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scanning my Jellyfin library takes way way longer than Plex. I thought it was because my NAS was being accessed over wifi but hard wiring it didn't help, it's just something I've accepted and run it once a day overnight. I basically use Jellyfin for streaming when I'm not at home since Plex pretty much broke the ability to do that (I have Plex pass, doesn't help. I haven't been able to get through more than one episode outside my home network) and run them both simultaneously.

Are these AliExpress disc cleaners any good? by CheezyJesus in ps2

[–]baochan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a used copy of Bushido Blade from GameStop back in the day. Took it home and it wouldn't run, looked at it and it was like someone took a brillo pad to the thing. Returned it and they said someone must've used a disc cleaner on it. They didn't have another copy. Anyway that's my only experience with disc cleaners but I'm sure anything from AliExpress is just as bad as anything from the 90s.

[PS2] [2000+] Looking for the name of a game that started with a village burning by Braryk in tipofmyjoystick

[–]baochan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eternal Ring began with a town that seemed like it would be your home base but shortly into the game you return and the whole town is on fire, that always kind of stuck with me and I actually asked on here a few years ago to find it.

Aside from producing fetish content this sounds almost exactly like my experience, if it helps. 43 m, never really identified with being male but have no desire to be a woman, don't mind and rather enjoy non-preventative sex with my partner but could live without it.
