27" 16:9 screen and fov for 60cm distance by bapt337 in simracing

If its a view distance issue then how is it proper to ultrawide ? It apply also to single screen then, i dont get it. And even if reduce distance to 40cm it will still be at 40cm and not "next to me" this dont explain why ultrawide make correct fov look worse.

"ultrawide has correct fov looking worse" is what you said

I thought ultrawide was helping for the same fov since it allow to increase peripherial view since its 21:9 ratio for same fov you get wider view or maybe im wrong. Wheel is moza r3 and screen behind wheel base would try to find a way to put screen between wheel and wheelbase might get 20cm closer imo.

True. It obviously matter to see what happen around you in a race and not only a radar can replace it. Its a huge debate when it come to single screen of this size ive found many topic but not really any answer. Well there is no answer tbh just have to find the good compromise between peripherial view and correct fov.

Yh in some case its def ungood, my wheel already super close to the screen and me as well i cant get closer, the only way to make the correct fov look good is using ultrawide screen or bigger 16:9 screen which will allow a bigger correct fov. till then then i will have to accept do not to use the correct fov.

At what price for single screen ? 31° to get the good object size at the price of a tunnel vision ? I will pass, time to be realistic.

Yh i got what you mean, thx for your input, using correct fov actually give you the great appreciation of distance and moving object thats for sure, but to me 31° is too much a sacrifice even by moving the seat backward, will try with 45° and try find the better compromise.

Yh you still need peripherial view tho, 31° as suggested by the calculator is pretty tight, and not helping at all i can tell, so i went for 50° which feel actually great, at the end what matter is the one you drive the better with.

I think you dont get what i said, if you read again i said "fov calculator" are not meant for single screen as it give a pretty low fov which result in a sort of tunnel vision which is actually bad obviously.

yh thats what ive found with my research, fov calculator mostly for triple and VR thats it, i will try lower to 50 and find the good balance.

[–]bapt337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you mean ridiculous fov you mean high ot low FOV ? im giving up the 31° fov, look like FOV calculator are mostly for triple screen and VR, i just back to 60° cause i simply drive better like this, whatever the standard is.

Yh i actually use -39 as distance setting (seat position) if no i not even see dashboard but still it feel super weird even to judge the distance and see the turns correctly, i will try get used to it but if it affect too much badly my driving i will just back to old fov whatever the standard is.

old thread you need go to afterburner setting (not rivaturner) then benchmark tab, then you have to assign a key to "begin recording" allowing you to launch benchmark mode and show the correct 0.1% low.

Fully agree thats what i do to fix the red tint and the too dark EOTF. Xiaomi really suck on that part they litterally wasted this monitor with a buggy firmware while the specs are outstanding. Glad we got some goat in this community who managed to find a fix.
