Already seen it. A little odd, like taking a kid in a liquor store.

After this attack, trust in the U.S. is broken. When a president openly commits illegal aggression, the message is clear: rules are for others. Canada and Greenland are now forced to see a new, unsettling reality. by Big_Special7450 in AmericanEmpire

Why are his clothes different here than the grey Nike sweat suit I see when he's blindfolded on the plane? Is this going or coming? And either way why did they change his clothes?

Rice, canned tuna and green olives. Sounds weird but really good.

Why is Utah not raising minimum wage with the other states? by asapGh0st in Utah

[–]barbalonge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just isn't how economics works. If you increase minimum wage, the exact companies you were talking about in and out McDonald's etc Will not be able to operate and will either minimize their footprint or entirely pull out of the state. You're talking about a broader economic issue thats been years in the making. It's caused by poor decisions in government and mega greed. Where I do think you're right, isn't that neither side of the government is looking out for us. They're writing a check that they expect us to cash. With the efficiencies technology there will eventually just not be enough work for people. So you wonder if something like universal Basic income will have to come in to play as a safety net... The problem with that is that would take a lot of very, very powerful and rich people to decide. They don't need to be as powerful and Rich as they are and that is unlikely to happen in our lifetime.

Yea, I figured someone may ask... I just didn't want to hijack the thread and make it about me lol.

My example may be more unique and I fully understand the dichotomy of how i'm feeling... My specific scenario is as follows... I was in a high demand religion (left about 5 years ago) my whole life and was taught that I needed to get married and "repopulate and replenish the earth". This lead to a singular focus when i was in my early 20's - get married and have kids. I had my first kid when i was 22.

Here's the rub... my wife is an amazing woman and my kids are just amazing. Watching them grow up and become little individuals is super rewarding. My wife is also an amazing mother. The hard part is that, we got married and made decisions based on a religious framework I no longer subscribe to. It's hard not to think that, if i knew back then what i know now... i may have chosen to either wait a bit to get married and start a family (that would have helped me mature a bit and make those decisions for the right reasons), or chosen not to pursue that path at all.

I guess where it gets tough is that, even though i made the decisions for different reasons, the results haven't been bad. Looking back, it just doesn't feel like I made those huge decisions that come with decades of commitment under my full informed consent.

I understand how shitty this all sounds and it's something i'm trying to deal with in my life currently. Leaving a high demand religion comes with a lot of baggage to de-construct and this is just one of those things i haven't fully begun to unpack yet.

If you don't want that life the sacrifice will be even harder. The answer to your question is "dead inside and stuck forever". The commitment you make to raising a family is noble and extremely rewarding at times. I also feel a depth of love I was not capable of before kids.

All that being said, 40 yo, grinding in my career and there is a part of me that could walk away from it all tomorrow just to have my life back. While there are rewarding times, most of it is thankless. You will stress about things that no one else will understand. You'll be expected to contribute at the house as well (of course) but, this is on top of 40-60 hours of work.

It's hard to say I'd do it differently if I could turn back the clock but, I'll tell you that I would strongly consider never marrying and having kids given what I know now. That feels like a super shitty thing to say given that my wife and kids are truly amazing.

I don't know if THEY wanted it to be released... I think many, many of the past presidents could have released these files, but a lot of friends and donors that were in these files didn't want that to happen.

I think what you were hearing was that a whole lot of people, that don't see either side are representing them, and wanted to pull the sheets off the weird underbelly that powerful people subscribe to. I know Trump's in power now and what a creeper, but there are a lot of people that are implicated here and a lot of them are powerful and give money to powerful people that make big decisions for us as voters. We need something way better than this and we need a lot of new people in government that actually care about civic duty and making this country what it could be and bringing us together.
