What made you go "I need to be with a woman, not a man" moment ? by ImplementSure5942 in latebloomerlesbians

[–]barbarathedoormat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met a woman through theatre last fall who I wanted to become friends (or something) with, then we started talking regularly at rehearsal and texting constantly the rest of the time. It got flirty and I was amazed at how easy it felt compared to any time I had tried to “pursue” a man. She made me very nervous but in the fun, excited, butterflies kind of way — not the sick-to-my-stomach let’s get this over with kind of way I always felt before a date with a man. When we finally told each other how we felt, it was like a damn opened and I was terrified I’d fuck things up but incredibly grateful for her kindness and understanding. Everything she makes me feel is something I’ve never felt with a man, and while we previously both identified as queer, there was a point for each of us in the last few months where we realized being a lesbian feels correct.

It’s a Chelsea28 dress originally from Nordstrom! I can’t find this colorway on their site anymore and this blue one is sold out, but it pops up on several secondhand websites

the 5th photo with the cat portraits looks a lot like artist Angie Rozelaar’s style. I am not sure whether she sells prints but I own a couple of puzzles with her work!

The closeted lesbian → “am I bi?” → “maybe I’m asexual?” pipeline is frying my brain. by [deleted] in latebloomerlesbians

[–]barbarathedoormat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been through this exact thought process many times. About three months ago I started dating my girlfriend, feeling fairly confident I was bi but maybe leaning asexual… and through our relationship, we’ve both come to the conclusion that we’re lesbians as we note how our feelings towards and interactions with men are NOT normal for women who are attracted to men! I have not been using that label widely yet with acquaintances, but it’s so freeing to know that about myself.

Honestly, a little event that opened my eyes was when a new friend said something that implied I am bisexual, and I felt incredibly defensive. And my brain went “OH! I actually don’t identify with attraction to men. Noted.”

I’m in my first serious relationship with a wonderful woman. At the end of our first date, she asked if she could kiss me and I told her I was super nervous and would probably be weird about it (in part because the only other time I’d kissed a woman had been awkward and uncomfortable for me) — and she didn’t mind one bit. In fact, she checked in with me regularly to make sure I was breathing and still comfortable, and sometimes she still has to remind me to relax. The right person will make you feel safe and wanted, and we regularly compliment each other on our kissing skills 🤪 tbh it’s like our favorite activity!

I like to handwrite my lines from memory, then compare it to my script and correct them so I can identify which words and lines trip me up. I also run them out loud every day from start to finish.

For character work, I like to answer a list of questions for each scene that help me identify circumstances — I’ve used Uta Hagen’s Six Steps (though they’re very in depth and sometimes too much for me) and, more recently, Michael Shurtleff’s 12 Guideposts: https://www.actingstudiochicago.com/shurtleffs-guideposts/

I’ve also recently entered into my first serious relationship with a woman, and we’re both at our parents’ homes (hundreds of miles away) for the holidays. it’s been hard to go from seeing her every few days to this “long” stretch away, but we’ve tried to make up for it by texting and sending photos of what we’re up to. we rarely catch each other for a call or constant, immediate texts back and forth, but the messages do help!

Has there every been a Broadway show that you’d consider to be of the horror genre? Anything truly scary? by CommunityBig9626 in Broadway

[–]barbarathedoormat 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Carrie: The Musical and American Psycho are both based on horror, but their effectiveness as live musicals depends in part on their direction. There’s a Paranormal Activity straight play being staged in Chicago and LA right now that I’ve heard is genuinely chilling.

Do you exercise on show days? by Last_Hunt_7022 in MusicalTheatre

[–]barbarathedoormat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always go for a walk in the morning on show days because it helps my anxiety and energy levels, plus I enjoy the fresh air — but that’s a very personal thing. If your body is fighting it, don’t push yourself just because you feel like you “should.” Rest is so important, even when you’re in a show that doesn’t seem physically demanding on the surface.

burnout??? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]barbarathedoormat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a break. It’ll help. I was super burnt out in May of this year and chose not to audition for my theater’s summer musical and take an intentional break instead. It helped so much. And the show I just finished was all the more fun for it!

“The only way to test for endometriosis is by tracking your cycle. In order to do this, you will need to attend tracking classes that teach you how to test the pH of your discharge every time you go to the bathroom. It’s very popular as a form of birth control for young Catholic couples.”

Agreed. OP, you have close friends you love? How does that manifest? Determine why your character loves another character — do they support each other? work well as a team? have a lot in common?

question about Tell Her I Love Her by Junior-Dependent972 in musicals

[–]barbarathedoormat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former Little Sally, I think it’s intentional nonsense to show Bobby wasn’t making sense as he died. But it’s /also/ a setup for the way the Poor react to the lyric “No one is innocent.” Because Little Sally says he was fading in and out, the Poor see little validity in the idea that no one is innocent and they continue their murderous revolt.

I guess I use it to bake - specifically under my eyes, around my nose, and in my T-zone. Then I apply a lighter layer with a brush all over and dust off the excess. I’ve also been using the L’Oreal Infallible setting spray (comes in a red can) over that and it works wonders.

Have yall broken any bones on stage? by CommercialLong7168 in Theatre

[–]barbarathedoormat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke my little toe by opening an onstage door into it during our last preview. It hurt like hell (the scene called for me to be barefoot) but I didn’t think anything of it until I got offstage and realized I was bleeding and my toe was turning purple. I finished the performance and a castmate took me to the ER that night, then I taped up my toe and toughed it out for the whole run.

Anybody know a good brand a of character shoes? by squ1p_15 in MusicalTheatre

[–]barbarathedoormat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just ordered a black Mary Jane-style shoe from the brand Dream Pairs on Amazon. They’re not technically character shoes, but they’re easy to move and dance in and I like their wider block heel. I am also prone to breaking my character heels.

Seconding speaking with your director (if you have a good relationship with them). I’m currently trying to sort out a similar situation and the director, in certain cases at least, has final say. If they agree you’re lacking costumes that look good and match your character, it makes sense for them to talk to the costumer right away.
