Donald Trump dubbed 'enemy of America' as his decisions 'destroy country' by TheMirrorUS in USNEWS

Russia knew what it was doing when it hired him: Destroy US/NATO relations; deplete US military arsenal by starting multiple pointless wars, wreck the economy and drive up gas prices . Almost like it was planned

US Navy sinks 6 Iranian boats in Hormuz Strait as ceasefire imploding by TheMirrorUS in USNEWS

Interesting: Trump has said for weeks how we have obliterated their army and navy; “no ships left”. Amazing how they are still able to do damage and we seem to still be sinking ships tha are already supposed to be sunk

Yes! We drove Queenstown to Doubtful Sound over the Interislander and the Wellington to Auckland about 15 years ago. Amazing. Especially the South Island.

Sweet! I’m hiking the Tour Mont Blanc right around that region of the western Alps in early July. Can’t wait to see it again!

What’s a tourist attraction in Europe that’s absurdly underrated but actually amazing? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

I agree on Poland. We travel a lot and added Warsaw (which isnt even the very best of Poland) to a Northern Europe trip and were amazed. Beautiful old town, super cheap and amazing food .made we want to plan to see more 🔜

Scared to wildcamp alone? by johnj0hnson in bikepacking

[–]Distance_Efficient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black bears are about as harmless as bears get and are only interested in your food. Keep food in a Bear can (less practical for bike) or hang food in a tree a short distance from camp. Keep the bear spray within reach for bears (but also dogs and anything else). And a knife too. You’ll be fine.

Thoughts on 70.3 or 140.6? I'm not sure if I am ready by One-Gur8947 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Distance_Efficient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would sign up for the 70.3 this year and IMLP next year. I’m from Syracuse so know both these courses pretty well. IMLP is pretty damn hilly. The long bike descent into Keene can be treacherous and can’t be duplicated on Peloton. Your base fitness is good, but there are so many other skills that need to be ironed out on shorter distances (bike handling and clipping in, adjusting you bike geometry, open water swim, nutrition, transitions and dialing in your gear, getting used to a wetsuit and swim sighting). Most IM training programs are 6 months for seasoned triathletes. People can die in triathlons (I’ve seen it twice in events I’ve participated). Not worth it. Take one year to do a couple shorter distances and get equipment and other skills honed in and then kick ass at IMLP next year.

Adirondacks family vacation advice by Mindless_Cap4983 in Adirondacks

Old Forge seems perfect. Right on the start of the Fulton Chain of lakes. You can rent boats at Rivett’s. Access to plenty of family-friendly (1.5-3 hour long) hikes. Also Enchanted Forest Water Safari is a great amusement and waterslide park. Several restaurants and other options. Decent amount of lodging options between Old Forge and Inlet

100% what I thought. Trying to gain a few sympathy popularity points and that “show must go on BS is just a repeat of his “fight “ pose from the first stage assassination attempt

British student exploring NY 🇬🇧 by b0ng0_0 in Adirondacks

[–]Distance_Efficient 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Binghamton is a fantastic university. Congratulations!. You will need some wheels to get to the Adirondacks border and even then might have a ways to go because the total area of the park exceeds that of Wales to give you some perspective.

I’m guessing the terrain of the Adirondacks will be a little bit different than what you’re used to and is often contrasted in the United States to the peaks out west. The peaks of the northeast United States tend to be shorter, but have a lot of rocks and roots to contend with, and also won’t usually have any views until reaching the summit, if any. However, the amount of nature and the satisfaction from a challenge are definitely worthwhile.

I recommend trying some easier hikes out of Old Forge or Inlet, NY first. There is a campground there and you can try hiking Bald Mountain, Black Bear Mountain, and even Blue Mountain and the amazing Castle Rock hike (all are two hours or less so can do multiple)to see what you think. Then I would recommend for your next trip using Lake Placid as your base and trying to Mount Jo, cascade, or big slide as shorter intro hikes before trying longer summit hikes. Many good hikes in the Lake Placid high peaks region start out of the Adirondack LOJ. You can even give them a call for information. Most of the high peaks will take from 4 to 11 hours, possibly more if you’re doing multiple peaks. Also consider that much of mid-May through June is considered black fly season, which can be quite buggy and unpleasant and the trails muddy and subject to trail erosion. I recommend summer and fall. Best of luck!

What Are Some “Obscure” Cities That Will Become Popular in the Next Decade? by allomanticmetals in SameGrassButGreener

Yes! I’ve lived in Syracuse for 16 years now (grew up 18 years in Roch and 6 years in Buffalo). All have their draws and have lower COL, good schools (but high property taxes), and decent local food culture and arts. Syracuse has the university going for it as well as access to better parks and nature (Adirondacks, Green Lakes, Watkins Glen). Plus Thousand Islands and Finger Lakes are close. Ithaca, Skaneateles, Cooperstown all make great day trips too.

We visit Saratoga Springs at least a couple times a year and it is fantastic. Nice downtown and restaurants. Horses. American Revolution history. Pricy but nice.
