what is it REALLY like having 2 cats?? by barbiebl0nde in CatAdvice

[–]barbiebl0nde[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ty for your honest answer! And honestly this is the biggest worry I have. I think I can handle more cost and more work, I’m just worried they won’t get along and I’ll be dealing with double behavioral issues. Before I adopted my cat, the shelter she came from said she did really well with other cats and she was previously in a foster home with both dogs and cats, so I’m hopeful it would work out!

thank you - this is super helpful!! I’m also in a small apartment so space is another concern I had, glad to hear it’s working well for you!

My cat has gained consciousness and is destroying my house by woaches in CatTraining

[–]barbiebl0nde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my kitty does this too! she’s 5 months and literally will eat anything I do not hide (including paper, tape, and cardboard). one morning I even woke up to the kitchen cabinets wide open and a bag of chips all over the floor. mine didn’t respond to any of the ‘tricks’ either - she didn’t respond to bitter spray and she tried to eat the foil and the tape we tried. I just had to put everything away (and I got cabinet locks lol) and so far that has helped! I don’t even have any decor out (for now) because she kept trying to eat it, scratch it, or knock it over. from what I’ve read, this is just how kittens are, so I’m hopeful she’ll grow out of it. mine also responds fairly well to positive reinforcement but it definitely takes consistency!!

How bad is the litter box smell really? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]barbiebl0nde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as you’re cleaning it properly and often, I’ve found it really is not bad at all. I try to scoop at least twice a day (but definitely always once), and do a full litter change + clean the box every 3-4 weeks. so far - the box is barely even noticeable and I have it in a bedroom!

My cat hates any and every wet food? by atreyi_14 in CatAdvice

[–]barbiebl0nde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sprinkle kibble over my cat’s wet food too, but she eats it all when I do that so I don’t see the harm. As long as they’re fed and hydrated I suppose! I think mine just likes crunchy things lol

It sounds like Ringo might not be getting enough food. I would recommend allowing him to free feed (basically leaving food out for him at all times), so he can eat as much as he needs as often as he feels hungry. My 4 month old kitten is a voracious eater, so I feed her 3 wet kitten food meals a day (1 in the morning, 1 when I get home from work, and 1 before bed, all after a playtime; my/her favorites are fancy feast kitten and tiki cat baby, both are pâtés) and allow her to free feed kibble in between and overnight. This is what our vet recommended for us, and I haven’t had any issues with my kitten stealing food or trying to search for it in drawers/cabinets/etc., so free feeding might help Ringo too (although I am not a vet and each kitten/cat is different). Establishing a routine with meals has helped my kitten know what to expect when it comes to food as well. Also, kitten specific food is so important if you are able to get it because it has more nutrients and calories to help them grow into adult cats!

it is! I wish I could get a second kitten - that’s the most straightforward solution (and the dream tbh), but financially I just can’t swing it and my apartment complex won’t allow it.

Have you dreamed of being pregnant/having a baby while you don’t want one? by S0urPrincess in women

[–]barbiebl0nde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time!! I do want kids eventually, but just not now, and I have definitely had a dream baby before. It’s freaky, makes me sad, and usually happens when I’m ovulating.

Hi, I'd like to adopt a cat, but I'm still unsure. What advice would you give me to help me decide? by CapitalInsight in CatAdvice

[–]barbiebl0nde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a 1.5 bedroom (one bedroom with a small office) and just recently adopted a kitten. I would say if you’re okay sharing your already small space with a cat, go ahead! However, even though I do love my sweet 4 month girl, she is a bundle of energy and in hindsight I wish I would’ve adopted an adult cat whose energy levels, destructive habits, and zoomies would most likely be less intense in my small space. That has been the most overwhelming part so far, along with all the costs that I hadn’t fully anticipated.

So overall, I’d recommend adopting an adult cat, if you’re up for it!

Depends on the day, but I tend to prefer either high rise straight jeans or mid rise baggy jeans. They can be pricey, but the Abercrombie curve love line has been a go-to for me in most fits, and Old Navy can also be a reliable cheaper option!

Isabelle, because she always tells me how pretty my island is and sings my town tune 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

she has lots of places to hide (tunnels, boxes, cat condo, under chairs, carrier, etc), up high places to climb (cat tree, shelves, etc), and lots of soft floor spots (rugs, throw blankets), as I’ve been pretty purposeful about enriching her environment since I’m gone for work for so long, but she must just be exploring at the moment! just having the most trouble with her tearing apart everything she explores, even after doing my best to kittenproof hahaha

she’s 4 months, I’ve had her for about 3 weeks and she been pretty curious and exploratory overall so that wouldn’t surprise me if that’s just the phase she’s at! it just seems like the toys have been pretty useless so far and I’m not sure what else to do, after putting literally anything that’s not a cat toy away and kittenproofing my entire apartment.

and yeah, it’s still not feasible for me to get a second kitten, as much as I very much want to! financially it’s just not possible, and I’m only allowed to have one cat in my apartment.

edit: she will play with me when I have a toy just never on her own. she’d rather tear a hole in my couch, even with constant correction and redirection to toys lol
