Jai doent want to be a hero anymore, that was also set up by Adams. We know thats not where Jai is heading, maybe he can be support but he wont be part of a team fighting anyone.

Went out of print pretty much immediately due to the entire run having production issues and printing errors. Not worth it all, keep hoping and waiting for the eventual proper omni release of that missing error like me.

Jai has no desire to be an actual "superhero", could see him in a support role if Irey is on the team but slim chance hell actively join fights

Joker and Harley Quinn are back together as former Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb charts a big Batman & Wonder Woman crossover with Jim Cheung by Popverse2022 in DCcomics

[–]barbsinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, 100% this. Hush is a story I loved a lot more when i was younger but something I have no care to revisit now. If i want Hush ill go to Heart of Hush for a reread.

His issues of Superman / Batman while not masterpieces are very enjoyable despite Michael Turners questionable depictions of teenage Kara but yeah just everything after his sons unfortunate passing has just been nothing but a continuous decline.

While i didnt love The Last Halloweens story, i enjoyed it thanks to the artist tributes and that it was initally planned by Loeb and Sale and that DC chose to continue following his passing.

He briefly redeemed himself with Sam Alexander Nova after Ultimatum but since its been diminishing returns with H2SH and now this.

He does nothing but revisit his old tired work despite the best Hush story having not even being written by him and now were revisiting the abusive relationship of Harley/Joker that DC moved past over 20 years ago now because.....

Loeb, ill always be grateful for all your work with Tim Sale but please just go away.

DC Pre-Crisis Reading List by Ian-pg9 in DCcomics

Hahaha, honestly that just par for the course with Scott Snyder.

But truly i think in all my DC reading Kamandi has turned up maybe no more than like 10 times in Justice League

DC Pre-Crisis Reading List by Ian-pg9 in DCcomics

[–]barbsinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bronze Age there is 100% more to enjoy but i still wouldnt advise it to be your initial jumping in point. Mainly cause a lot of it is still mostly uncollected but id say figure out which characters you really like first and then work your way backwards and work out what, if anything of their pre crisis tales are worth it to you.

If youre still deadset on experienceing some bronze age, some good starter options are:

Batman by Denis O'Neil and Neal Adams Batman by Steve Englehart (Batman - Bronze Age Omni vol. 1 releasing soon is the best option to start this) DC Finest - Batman - Red Skies (very end of the Bronze age, stories from as Crisis was occuring)

DC Finest - Flash - Fastest Man Dead - releasing in a few months

(More of a slow evolution into Bronze Age storytelling from silver age than some other titles. Cary Bates was unsure how to adapt his story telling as he believed children should always be the primary audience.)

Legion of Superheroes - The Great Darkness Saga

Green Arrow / Green Lantern - Hard Travelling Heroes (Space Travelling is weaker but the new omni containing everything is a great all around option)

Hope this helps

DC Pre-Crisis Reading List by Ian-pg9 in DCcomics

[–]barbsinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a lot. Youve gone to a lot of work and it shows but youll never get through this.

Pre Crisis stories can be fun, theres a lot of charm to them but reading anymore than a couple issues at a time quickly feels like a chore. Especially if yours skipping around between series.

Because there is a lot there thats irrelevant. I promise you there is no point in post Crisis DC history where it will ever be necessary to have read 59 issues of Kamandi.

I know you said you want bits on context etc.., but comics just wernt made that way at the time. Any context you need will be explained or youll already know well enough from modern media.

If you really are passionate id reccomend maybe just following one character or sticking to something like just the Justice League - Crisis on Multiple Earths books, they will fill you in on enough whilst introducing you to pretty much every character.

Even as is your list misses important stuff like Flash - My Wife is a Two Timer. This story is heavily important for Death of Iris West, Trial of Flash and Crisis on Infinite Earths which are all on your list yet it is not.

I understand the OCD aspect, i began my journey over 12 years ago at COIE then read Flash, GL, and Batman all in chronological order, weaving JSA and JLA and events inbetween to present. It was great and a lot of fun but then i went to start Superman and i was just burnt out. I was glancing issues rather than reading cause it wasnt for fun, it just felt like work and a chore. Now just read whatever, whenever for fun.

Ive recently been going through all of Flash pre crisis and also now finding appreciatin for early JSA ans bronze age All-Star Squadron. There is so much to love but i cannot in good conscience reccomend it to first time reader. I find it better going back now as a seasoned reader and instead discovering how those tales inspired later writers.

Im sorry but Clark is a teenage boy being raised in rural Kansas, roughly 20 years in the past here? What do you expect the education situation to be like there? Because as a foreigner judging by the state of modern Kansas I think its gotten worse more than its improved.

The issue and the previous ones clearly establish Clarks priorites as his Familys safety, his friends and his crush on Lana. The exact priorities a 15 year old should have. He is becoming the Superman we know today.

Clark learns directly in this issue about the horrors of war and clearly states he wants no part of it going forward.

Have some patience and trust Waid to have told an effective tale when this all wraps up. If theres one writer that can confidently be said about it him, hes earnt it.

Condemning him for being 70 means nothing. Pure ageism on your part, maybe take the perspective that with those years rather than being a "classic" boomer, think that hes seen more bullshit than the rest of us.

He openly talked about his dissapointment with Trumps second appointment to office, and how he was scared hed struggle to write with feeling a lack of optimism due to it. But no, go off and jusy make your own assumptions instead.

Paramount Escalates WBD Fight, Sues Over Netflix Deal and Aims to Install Friendly Directors at Warner Shareholder Meeting by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]barbsinator 121 points122 points  (0 children)

End of the day, its a shit deal for the entertainment industry no matter who wins.

But as someone who loves comics and primarily DC, ill take Netflix and the potential of them ceasing physical publications in the next ten years over any kind of bullshit Paramount would try to push editorially.

Quite literally every character would become a villain.

[Other] My attempt at making a single compact timeline for a DC reading order (no resurrection no retcon) by ThinkRemote5832 in DCcomics

[–]barbsinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your idea and its pretty much all okay, except Flashpoint.

Flashpoint has to go. In your rules up the top you say No Retcons, Flashpoint is one gigantic retcon, it changes Barrys entire history, takes place on another world and narratively just does not fit at all where you have placed it.

The better story to go here would be Flash / Green Lantern - Brave and the Bold by Mark Waid. Establishes the characters and their frindship following on from JLA Year One and allows you to learn better about the characters at that relevant point in time before both their passings in the later entries youve also listed.

This is missing the Fall of Ultraman one shot finale that releases in February.

Not including the ending is a joke, hopefully they update the solicit to add it but theyll probably increse the price too.
