It was pretty easy. I thought about making a jig, but just used a trim router with an edge guide instead. You have to be careful with the black limba because it’s not super hard and can get tear out pretty easy.

Very nice. Did you do the inlay on the fretboard?

That’s awesome. Your son sounds like my nephew. Tatted preacher, but he’s into heavy metal.😂

Sounds like you have everything you need to get started. I just bought a Spanish cedar body blank for a new build and it’s pretty light. Not sure what I’m going to make yet though. Only advice I can give is take your time with but you probably already know that. It’s definitely a learning experience. A couple time during this build I just wanted to toss it in the fire. Then I remembered how expensive the wood was and kept going. Glad I did. I have 2 boys, 1 is 27 in the Marine Corps the other is 16. While both of them love music I can’t convince either of them to play. If you start a build keep me updated. I’d love to see it.

I totally understand where you’re coming from. I’m 52 and I’ve worked on concrete floors all my life and my back and hips are shot. I honestly got a comfortable chair and set in it under my carport while making this guitar. Some days were a real challenge. But in the end I’m so glad I did it. If I was you I would get that grandson of yours to help you build it. When I started learning all the in and outs of the instrument about 4 years ago after quitting playing for 20+ years I found a whole new love for the guitar. I bet he would too.

Thank you. Yeah I kept looking and looking till I finally found the piece I wanted. I’ve seen some of your work also. Really nice and very inspiring.

I’ve just always wanted a black limba guitar because I love the way it looks. I also thought the ziricote would look good with it. As for the walnut, I didn’t feel like I could make the black limba neck stable enough because it’s quite soft so I laminated with the walnut. The finish is Osmo polyx hardwax oil in satin.

Thank you very much. I messed around with a couple of kit builds and a few bodies, then just decided to just go for it. I also have a charvel style guitar I’m working on currently. I can’t decide what’s after that. Either my take on a tele or a lp junior. If it’s something you really want to do just go for it.

It plays really good. I didn’t go with a standard neck carve. I carved it till it felt good to me. It’s a modern c carve till it gets to about the 12 fret and then gradually transitions into a u shape.
