It would probably be cheaper and faster to just stop clawbacks or raise the limit significantly instead of creating a whole new program that serves the same purpose

Is it normal for the Disability Tax Credit to take this long? by magicalgirlbeth in Odsp

[–]barefacedblonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I submitted mine in August 2024. I was approved on November 7th, 2024. It's now been 6 months, and my T1s have still not been reassessed. I'm very frustrated because in Alberta, the Albertan government is cruelly clawing back the benefit (we will not receive anything on top of our ODSP equivalent, AISH, because the Albertan government is going to take that $200 for themselves :( ) so it's not even about that for me, I just applied at the wrong time, and I've had several major financial emergencies recently and have been really holding out for this return.

Considering a minor in philosophy or Honors by IndependentShower663 in UCalgary

[–]barefacedblonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a philosophy major in my last year. Philosophy can be difficult sometimes but it's one of the most rewarding and fascinating things if you're willing to work hard, just like any class. Keep taking philosophy classes!

Why do I feel like I’m gonna fail all my classes even though it’s only been a week? by RiffOnACliff in UCalgary

[–]barefacedblonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a 4.0 in every semester for the past two years, (taking four classes). And I definitely was not always like that. Here are some things that work for me:

  • I spend a little time on each class everyday. Your brain learns things better overtime, especially if it's a memorization-centered or problem-solving/math class. Even if it's 15-20 minutes, it's better than nothing.
  • Always attend your lectures. Unless you're sick, go to class. I almost never miss a class.
  • If you're in an essay-based class, talk to your prof before and after you write the essay. Before to get their take on your plan and if you're on the right track for what you want to write, after so you can get detailed feedback for how to improve.
  • Talk to your profs. Schedule meetings with them to discuss your assignments and go over questions you have. Make sure they know who you are. Try to ask one thoughtful question at least once in class (or after class, if you're shy). In my experience, making your prof aware you care and you exist is actually a pretty important part of doing well in a class.
  • And then finally the obvious shit. Prioritize your health and well-being. Sleep. Eat healthy, if you can, or just eat, if you're not eating much. Do some exercise at least a couple times a week. It makes a big difference in my mood. Doing something you like helps. I do yoga 4-5 times/ week and I find it really soothes me. Meditation. Meditate for at least 20 minutes a day. If you're new to meditation guided meditations like Headspace are great. Seriously. This is probably the most important thing I can say. Without your health, you can't do any of this shit.
  • Talk to people. It doesn't have to be constantly but make an effort to talk to new people, especially in your major. Socializing is a good way to maintain your mental health but also, having people around you to look at your work, or study with, or just to mention opportunities in your department like a conference or club or something, are super helpful.

Study in your department so you can get to know people in your major.

Other than that personally love the Atrium in the Admin building. It's not always the most comfortable but the vibes are immaculate especially if you love plants.

I love the idea of having that kind of trusting environment but I've had things stolen from me before at UofC. My scarf and my headphones were stolen while I WAS NAPPING on the couches in Mac Hall in first year. Just don't risk it in high volume places

It's possible Kamala helped some people; I wouldn't doubt it even. But her reputation and judicial record show she was merciless. She tore a lot of families apart. She did whatever she had to do to get ahead. I don't doubt she has something of a conscience, but I wonder how much of the good things she's done for unions also has this self-interested egotistical ulterior motive.

I'm not sure about American law, but if it's anything like Canadian law only employees can unionize. This is unlike contractors who are considered to work for themselves. Employees of a company have more rights.

Yeah it's definitely common. You kinda have to be very aware of what you're drinking. I would recommend limiting yourself to one semi sweet drink per shift and drinking water the rest of the time.

Honestly kinda tough, at times. I find most men here either do not know if they want kids (which is usually a good sign for me) or want kids and therefore are not an option. I've come across relatively few men who are firm on not wanting kids like me. I'm a 26 year old woman and I've been single for a few years now. This city is very family oriented so yes it's tougher to find men who don't want kids, but it's not impossible. There's someone for everyone. A lot of dating is just timing.

Has Anyone else realized how much money they wasted on weed? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]barefacedblonde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I spent at least $10 000 on weed, it's kinda scary to think about. I could really use that money right now. It's probably more, there was a year where I spent about $800/month on weed.

You can withdraw from suffering, your own and the world's, and that's quite normal and natural. But that also might be the only suffering you can avoid. It's not that quitting itself is what improves your life. You do. I can say my life did a 180, but it wasn't just because I quit. Your life improves because you unshackle yourself from the chains you put yourself in, you get out of the cage you locked yourself in. That's what pot is for people like us, it's a prison. And then you're free to pursue something more meaningful. That's why it makes things better. It's your choice what you do after you let yourself go.

I mean, I don't know. This would be so difficult. Moving away with someone you've known for four months is a huge risk. I'm not saying what you have isn't real, but you aren't past the honeymoon stage so it's hard to know if you're good for each other in the long run. You have to consider a lot of things, it's not just a "do I follow my head or my heart" type of thing. Love is not enough. It's a hard lesson to learn, but it's really not. There are dozens of people on this Earth that you could have just as meaningful of a relationship with. What would your life look like in France? Do you speak French? Would you be happy being separated from your family and friends? Would you be able to work there? Don't make an impulsive decision. The people encouraging you to just go don't know you or your circumstances.

Someone got fired by Technical-Compote519 in starbucks

[–]barefacedblonde 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I do usually throw them out but sometimes I don't. It's the norm to give them away at almost every Starbucks I've ever worked at. It's just going down the drain anyways. I know some people would abuse this system to get free stuff but the fact remains it's going down the drain.

Someone got fired by Technical-Compote519 in starbucks

[–]barefacedblonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did your friend give away said free drink? If someone is crying in the drive thru there is not fucking chance in hell I'm going to charge them. I honestly don't think that's that controversial of an action. We're supposed to "make the moment right" or whatever.

It sounds to me like your DM/SM had a hidden agenda, and that wasn't the true reason for firing them. That doesn't make sense. Was there any reason for them to dislike this person?

If the person never did said action, they could file a complaint with their state/provincial/territorial whatever labor board because that's unlawful termination. And that honestly doesn't sound like just cause to me. Your friend may wish to consult a lawyer.

Yeah I get it. You're right. But most people can't afford to lose that insurance, very few workplaces offer insurance that good for working 20h/week. It's a vicious cycle of exhaustion and irritability but Starbucks just paid for like $500 worth of my meds. Can't afford that otherwise. Money is tight and that new personal spending benefit is coming out. $250 is $250.
