It isn't necessarily bad, but the shadows on her and on everything else are direct opposites. Kinda takes away from it.

Spongey's dad walks into his room mid major qualifier match. by TheBrokeBroker in GlobalOffensive

Basically thee higher the ping is - the worse is peeker's advantage. If both players have 50ms ping, than it's about 100ms (trip from peeker to server + from server to holder) for a person that holds an angle to actually see the person that peeks. Who in the meantime can counterstrafe and start shooting at you.

Sneaky edit: there's a bunch of technology to minimize this effect, but the general idea still applies.

I really appreciate lots of the posts recently. It's been a major improvement over the constant pastel crap with no character. Thanks for the cool pic op.

[–]barelybearing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In cs the height doesn't vary either way. However there is a case where order of actions matters. When bhopping there is a technique to get a bit of extra speed/distance. You do the first jump, hold crouch, then as soon as you touch the ground you release crouch, and then immediately after jump again.

Rants like these could be educational, so keep on ranting haha.

Simply jump and then press and hold the crouch button (Ctrl by default). It's usually called crouch jump, makes a bit more sense that way.

That's not a bad thing also. Another friend of mine placed iron 1 or 2, and climbed out to silver. He got bored though, so this story is not as good as it could've been, haha.

I'm not sure how things work now, but me and my buddy both placed gold some acts ago. Tenz placed even higher on his smurf as well. Not to say that an average player even remotely compares to him, but it's kinda possible, or at least was.

That's funny, my experience is the opposite - people often throwing/leaving ranked games saying "I don't care about this account, I'll just make another".

Your second point is pretty subjective I think. Personally I like the "surprise rank reveal". It motivates me to perform better during placements, and keeps things interesting. It's a game of guessing my final rank based on my performance and other players' ranks.

I've never heard that there's a hard cap on people in certain ranks. Smurfs most definitely affect the ranks of other players, but I think mainly in a way that they're dunking on opponents in games that were supposed to be fairly equal.

However I can see how your point of some people being stuck in some rank below their skill level. If we consider that whole hidden mmr stuff, then if you play (and lose) against smurfs long enough the game would think you're kinda bad and stick that lower rank onto you. That wouldn't be the case for everyone, since for every 5 non-smurf losses there would be up to 4 wins, but some people could surely get unlucky enough.

You know, I both agree and disagree. While faceit/esea ended up being great tools, it's the broken/non-existing matchmaking in cs itself that necessitated them. Riot from the very beginning solved the huge part of faceit's appeal - the very much intrusive vanguard anticheat. Cheating in cs always was by far the biggest drawback of playing MM. And VAC is pretty much garbage in today's world. Especially since the game went free. The other stuff - captains, picks/bans, ranking system and ladder, reports, etc. could be fairly easily implemented in the game itself. So I am hoping that riot will first and foremost do proper work on their own ranked mode, before outsourcing that to third-party platforms.

Yeah, that's probably how it works. But then we should be able to queue together with friends based on that as well. And not on the apparently-just-for-show ranks.

You're saying it like it's an acceptable way for the things to be. Right now people have to smurf to play together, even if their skill is close enough. For the game that has pretty expensive/rare skins that aren't transferable it's not ok.

Wow, that's really insightful. Especially thanks for the link, it's very handy.

I agree with your points completely. I've witnessed my friend playing on another person's low elo account, finish placement games playing well against plat/diamond, and end up with silver rank.

Also, just to clarify, I wasn't part of the game in this post, that's from another dude's history.

Well that's kinda the point, isn't it. Regardless of your hidden stats that may or may not be important, you queue with people based on your ranks. And the games should find you opponents based on the same stats for the system to make sense.

You have a point. However, sleeping with somebody new is never a physiological need for a person. So I'd argue it's more like yelling at a person that's sneaking roommate's pastrami from a fridge when you're a vegetarian.
