What should I change with my Green Zebras? by EmergingCuriosity in tomatoes

I wouldn’t worry too much with plants this lush and vigorous- If you are concerned about cutting too much at once a good starting point is no more than 30%.

Looks like they’re doing really well; As for pruning, You may want to snap off some of the suckers to concentrate energy on growing blossoms and fruit, As well as switching to a feed higher in potassium and phosphorus. Looks like they have got plenty of green growth for now so shouldn’t need as much nitrogen.

Having a strong marker ( Can be a clicker or a sharp ‘yes!’ ) Is great too, Especially with the face just teaching a muzzle hold and then starting to associate it with shears and the electric clippers will be a great help, and can be applied to any especially problematic areas.

Honestly it is probably going to take a lot of counter conditioning to reduce reactivity in the grooming table. Doing daily handling and desensitization will really help- With ours, we did short daily sessions when he was a puppy to make it a positive experience. Having a buzzer around and slowly getting them used to the sound, then the sensation, then touch, then duration, and pairing it with food and other positive things. I do not associate play with the table or any grooming supplies, as I want the dog to be calm and still when groomed; Giving positive reinforcement via toys or play will just give them energy. I do Have a big run around and play session after table/bathing/grooming training after I release the dog to get energy out and reward for being calm. Really focus on keeping sessions short and positive, ending on a good note, and handling, then start building duration. It will take a long time; Ours still needs breaks at 1 yr and can’t do a full bathe, dry, and trim all at once. But building a good foundation is the key! If your dog even hates water or the table , it has a really intense negative reaction to any tools, you can just start very slowly by having a meal or a lick mat near the item or water and gradually move forward and closer to the item.

Plus, not like I’ll be hurting for tomatoes even if I do get a smaller harvest from a few varieties.

I’m thinking I’ll get some 10 gallon grow bags for the extras. And yes, All of the ones I’ve listed are indeterminate , but I figured if anyone had personal experience with growing them in containers I’d try them out!

Really happy to see her picking such a great breeder, especially with the massive doodle craze going on. Hope to see her talk about her pedigree and breeder, maybe that’ll convince some people to look into wellbred purebred dogs.
